Hey everybody,

This is my first post here on this website. I'm quite young... at 2:16 p.m. today, I turned 21. And since I'm so young, I was thinking about how I can use this to my advantage in terms of money in my future. I was thinking about doing one of these make money online programs, and if I ever make any money, storing all of that money into a bank account that makes that money grow very fast. I forgot what kind of account you call it, but it's one of those that you lock your money in for a certain amount of time, unable to get it back before then without paying a sum of money. Is it a Roth IRA? I dunno...

Also, I want to help out my Dad. I still live at home with my parents and my little sister, and we are a very very tight nit loving family. My Dad owns a building/remodeling business that he started up in 2007 after splitting off from his Dad's remodeling business. Long story short, as you all know, the economy is atrocious, and unfortunately, the type of job my Dad has is one where it greatly depends on the economy. If people are hurting financially, the last thing on their list of priorities is to remodel their house. So, to say the least, we are having a very hard time, and my Dad is extremely stressed out. So, I'm thinking that if I could help him out with money, that would help him relax just a bit more.

Anyway, I am EXTREMELY skeptical of all of these make money online programs. Over the past few days, I've done extensive research to see if any of them are legit, and to say the least, what I've found from reviews and whatnot is very disheartening. They all look like scams. The only one I came across that seemed somewhat legit was a program called Profit Lance. It got rave reviews back in 2007, which is when I'm assuming it came out, but I've read posts about it from that were written in 2009, and it sounds as though the whole thing has fallen apart. People say that it's out of date, certain links don't work, and the customer support is crap.

I don't have very much money at all... if I were to ever buy a online money making program, I would have to be certain that it was completely legit... not legit in 2007 or 2008, but legit as of September 2009.

Is what I'm looking for as impossible to find as, say, the leprechaun's pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?

And no, I don't expect to start making money overnight. I expect a certain amount of trial and error, or more specifically, a learning process. But I don't want to waste money that I don't have, and I don't want to waste time that is precious to me. I don't want this to be a full time, 8 hour a day job. I expect to put in a couple hours a day, at the most. Because, you know, at 21, I have a life to live outside of my computer!

Thanks,

Geoff Parker

I think you have a fantastic attitude for someone so young. Your family sounds like a great family to be part of.

Being a success online means putting in time. You can take a longer approach in relation to time if you want to become a bum marketer - which is someone who uses free methods to generate income online.

A good site for that is to see potpiegirl's website

Using strictly free methods will still require you to put in time and will also require a longer period of time for you to generate income as opposed to using paid methods.

Hi Geoff,

Two things you really have working in your favor from the get go are your realistic expectations and your great attitude. Those will serve you well.

Best thing to do is to start reading from make money online blogs aka online marketing blogs. The information is free and is quite good on the better blogs.

They are easy to find via Google. To find them just start entering phrases such as: "make money online", "online marketing", "pro blogger", "online business", and similar.

You can also read from our forum, which in my opinion is the best work at home forum on the net.

You won't have to spend any money at first plus you'll get a good idea which programs we feel are the best choice. You'll be able to avoid scams.

You should also take the free 30 Day Challenge. You can first read about it here on our sub forum:

30 Day Challenge - Post Your Experiences Here

Then you can visit the free 30 Day Challenge and take it here:

www.thirtydaychallenge.com

After you've read around for a few months you'll be ready to spend a little money on a premium program or two.

The premium programs we favor are:

SBI
Wealthy Affiliate
One Week Marketing
Niche Blogger
Honest Riches 3.0

Each program is a little different in price but is a good value and has quality learning materials. The first two have ongoing fees whereas the rest are very low one-time payments.

That'll get you started!

Here is an formula to start. And It is FREE

1. Do market research to determine what sells. There are many ways to do it. But start with clickbank (for digital product), and Amazon (for digital and physical products).
2. Once you find a market and a product to sell, do keyword research and get domain related to your niche. Keyword research will also help you finding a domain.
3. Get an unlimited domain web hosting plan for $10/month.
4. Set up a blog. Use a good Free theme.
5. Create useful contents for your blog.
6. Promote affiliate products in your blog.
7. Get inbound links to your blog using article marketing, forum posting, blog commenting, Squiddo, eHow, HubPages, etc.
8. Start using Twitter and Facebook to connect with people.

Are you going to make lots of money if you follow the above steps? It does not really matter. The most important thing is learning. You will learn
1. Market research
2. Keyword research
3. Affiliate marketing
4. Improving writing skills.
5. Search engine optimization, etc.

Create a separate Google email and sign up with all the Internet Marketers that let you download free ebooks in exchange for your email. Ask yourself why these people are giving you away free ebooks for email. You'll learn what they are up to.

After a few months, use the contents you have already published in your blogs to create an ebook.
Sell that ebook using Pay Per Click (PPC). You will learn PPC.

After one year, even if you have earned a small bit of money, you will be an expert in all the aspects of Internet Marketing. Now you can formulate your own plan and set up your system to go after the big money.

Geoff

You have a wonderful attitude to life!

You also have a great writing ability and should put this to use.

There are so many ways to be able to make money on the internet without having to invest a fortune.

Perhaps you should consider blogging (yes, you can make money from blogging!) - Yaro Starak and Rob Brenwell offer free mini courses to do this.

Alternatively you can look at affiliate marketing and a great way to learn this is from Travis Sago and his Bummarketing Method.

If you find something that you like and are thinking of pursuing - come back to the forum here and ask questions about them so that you are confident that is something you want to get into.

I wish you all the best in your future adventures

Thank you all for your support and help. You've shared some very helpful information, and I'll be sure to investigate it.

One thing that I want to say though is that marketing and business is not exactly what I want to do as a career. It dosen't fit my personality at all. Yeah, I'll gladly do it now, but I plan on majoring in something like teaching. I think I want to teach, say, government or politics in college... carve my own conservative niche. So, since I'm not looking at marketing and business as a career, is that a potential problem?

Thanks!

Hi Geoff,

Well, it's not exactly ideal. Ducking in for a relatively short time and ducking back out might not prove to be too fruitful.

Passion helps quite a bit.

However, there are two types of passion. It's ideal to have both. One is for marketing and the other is for a chosen topic.

If you have enough for the second you might be able to pull it off for a time. You might even find that you like the marketing side of things after a while.

However, if you don't like your topic, it's a bit tough.

So, at least pick a topic you really enjoy and perhaps you'll get into the marketing side of things later on.

One last tidbit. Another danger of not really being into the marketing side of things is that you'll be tempted to focus too much on the monetizing. That has a tendency to show through in your writing and also tends to work against you.

Just know that you can't just put something up on the net and expect to make money. You really have to study quite a bit about online marketing for a time before even trying to monetize.

It helps quite a bit to be interested in marketing.

Good luck in any case,

If you are passionate about that, start out with a simple blog and go from there... a lot of folks simply start out by blogging about something they really like, and then once they have enough traffic coming to it, they are able to monetize with good valuable affiliate links and adsense...

Newbie Shield and the others, gave great advice from a variety of angles....good luck.

Newbie,

What is you take on My Online Income System (MOIS)? Do you find One Week Marketing to be a better starting plattform?

Geoff,

One thing you can do is start a blog about government and politics if that's what you're interested in. Once it gets starts getting traffic, you can start marketing things directly from your blog.

Hi There!

I wish I had the opportunity to have started earlier in life. But way back then, we didn't have Internet.

There are actually numerous ways to accomplish what you want and the examples above are great. However, if you want to create streams of income I suggest creating niche websites that provide lots of high quality information. If you do it right, you can eventually work yourself out of a job and get to very near entirely passive income.

I'm doing this now, using SBI! and I'm nearly to 1k per month. I intend to do several more sites to create diversified income and have multiple streams.

That's my suggestion, but whatever you do, I wish you all the best!

I am not Newbie but if you are brand new the whole affiliate marketing thing then MOIS would be a better one to start with.

OWM is more for the frustrated affiliate marketer to help them with a plan that keeps them more focused.... once you get started with MOIS and kinda get a handle on it all you may want to add the OWM ...

Just my few cents there.

You've got the right idea to get into doing your own business at as young an age as possible. While there are many scams on the internet, they are no different than offline scammers out there. Fact is there are many many successful business ventures one can tap into online.

I think the biggest things is people come looking for an online business and think that some thing magical is suppose to happen. It takes work and dedication that many are not prepared for or take the time to understand that is what it takes.

Online marketing can be rewarding but it is a time consuming operation if you are not able to outsource your marketing needs. And the learning curve can be steep for beginners.

When looking into a business opportunity the question that must be asked is what is the marketing plan for success and "can I do it."
And if it involves networking, then the additional question is "how easy can others duplicate the marketing plan for success." If you can put very positive answers to those questions then you could have a business that will easily (not without work) allow you to be successful.

For the most part people find what they are looking for. People who are looking for scams find scams. People who are looking for a solid opportunity find a solid opportunity.

I look at it this way. When I am driving and merging onto a freeway, I look for holes, not cars.

Hi Geoff,
I, like you are green in this industry and somewhat sceptical about what is legitimate. I have always believed that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is! In saying that, I get a sense that there is good money to be made in this industry with the right advice, so thanks to every one's advice, I too will look into things a bit more and hopefully we both can do well out of this!

I'll keep you posted!

I agree with everyone here!

I especially like Gary's comment about looking for holes, not cars.

I have also found that people like to program hop a lot. Find a program, promote it to death for a couple of weeks, decide the program doesn't work, and move on to another.

It's crazy! How are you supposed to make any money if you can't stick with someone for more than a week or two.

That's why I like picking just a couple and really giving it my all.

You can succeed with ANYTHING you pick that is legit. You just have to have the right tools and more importantly....the right attitude!

Good luck in your search!

Sure there are scams as well as real opportunity. Look harder and you will see the red light that tells you to run or the green light that says stay.

You also need to give an opportunity a chance to work, jumping from one offer to another wont do you any good.

Of course there is a money making program that isn't a scam... just send me $39.95 and I'll tell you all about it!

I'm sorry, I couldn't help it....

There is quit a few out there you just need to know where to look!

check out some reviews on the product your thinking of buying if there mostly positive buy it. Clickbank does offer a 60 day money back guarantee but i wouldn't take advantage of it, unless you have to.

Forums like this one are some of the best places to find honest reviews on products. You can find people who have actually tried the product as opposed to just promoting it (or a competitor product).
