I have been trying off and on for 5-6 years to make money online from home. I have lost lots of money, so I am more careful now when I do my research. I agree with marian67 about using review sites. It helps weed out the trash from the legit opportunities

I agree that companies that want you to put a lot of money up front do not seem to be very honest
Also, I don't trust companies that don't tell you exactly how you will be making money until they get their money.

I get hesitant around paid surveys, especially ones that require your credit card payment so that they can send you surveys to complete. I am not suggestin gthatthey are scams, but sometimes I wonder..................

Good topic,
With so many people obviously in the research stages given they have already lost their jobs, or are about to, like so many I know, we have seen a tremendous amount of researching, but little action in the overall home business markets.
As I have researched and analyzed the industry for years, one thing I have learned is what is hot today is not assured to be hot tomorrow. You have to stay ahead of market and identify trends if you ever want to be successful at any home business.
As we are all suffering through the worst recession, if not depression in our lives, you have got to tune in on verifiable value oriented businesses, thos which save people money, not cost them extra money. Free is the latest trend, offering newbies a no risk no cost opportunity to start their own home based or online businesses. Free has always been the hottest marketing word, and I have used it for years with success, but never more than now.
With most who have lost money trying various home business opportunitied, and millions more who will never try again do to their failures or bad experiences, never before has free and no risk been more important in business than now. Having started several successful businesses over the years, both traditional and online, I can tell you this, free works, always has, always will.
I specialize in free businesses and helping newbies cut through the confusion in the home business market place where get rich quick and money hype programs have ruled for years, and this is sad since most will fall for these deals and then get burned and never look again. I like to focus on those people who have failed more so than those who have succeeded, as well as newbies, and this is why I promote free businesses, no mandatory purchases, autoship or high start up distributor fees.
Yes, as we all know, you have to spend money to make money in most cases, but imagine if a company will send out free sample packages to your prospects, would that help you succeed? Most distributors are aware of handing out samples, but it comes our of their pockets, and this is not affordable for most just getting started in their own businesses. If you can get a newbie into a no cost business, so easy that you cannot fail, and if you can get them to a small profit enough to induce them to make a purchase from their own distributorship store, now you will see why everyone can succeed.
It is all about Pay It Forward, Give To Receive as I have learned. When you are able to give away free samples at no cost to distributor, what are your chances of success? No cost, no risk eliminates the biggest barrier many are facing in this collapsed economy, not having enough money to start any business, so by removing that issue, we appeal to the masses, and that means we have an easily duplicated system of Pay It Foreward, Giving to Receive, and it works like nothing else in the world.
Having just started beta testing of this concept, and using the number one consumable products, and offering free samples to everyone, no purchase required, no mandatory autoship, easy as 1-2-3 to duplicate, we feel we have it all covered, every negative of typical home businesses has been removed, then, and only then will the newbie see success. Of course, you have to define success, for everyone is different, but with our first goal of teaching members how to earn free products, then an income, not the income first, it takes the negative out of equation of starting a home business.
Identifying trends is another important factor in choosing a home business, and when you can show everyone how easy it is to start, plus duplicate, now you have the successful strategy which insures your success. Without duplication, you might as well not even start, and this is the biggest problem most have, trying to talk people into paying more for items they don't need or want, typical in the home business industry. With our system, it would be more difficult to fail than succeed, it may take longer to make an extra income, but as so many have learned, there are no true get rich quick deals, none which will last at least. Check out FREE-FOOD-BANK to learn more.
Success to all,

Hello everybody, Agree with you...
When I first started my venture in making money from home I was literally flooded with opportunities that required a small capital investment...
However, let's be honest...any business requires you to invest capital at the beginning...
I must admit that I've spent a small fortune on internet marketing training. Some were just poor training programs, some just OK and some REALLY top notch.
I think that where most people fail is in thinking that you can make money without a plan or that somebody else is making it for you.
In my opinion, that is tantamount of buying scratch cards to make a living...
On the on the other hand, making money from home is not that hard! You just have to know what to do and have the right tools.
And knowing what to do comes from trial and error...just be prepared to meet tons of road bumps...
Learn how to take advantage of your results and you'll eventually find your own way...

I signed up for a business one time where they promised even if you do no work you would still make over $1000 per month because they promised to place people under you. being new and way to naive i gave it a shot and needless to say i was out $500 bucks....so if anyone promises that you don't have to do anything and you'll still make money I would find another opportunity. now I work hard and smart with my business and am more than satisified

Thanks for the tips. It can be hard to find out if some sites are scams. I have joined a few sites that I am working on to this very day and while they seemed like they weren't legit, they have worked amazingly well for me. It all depends. Sometimes you have to take chances and risk not getting paid to find good sites to work for.

I almost got scammed once. I can't remember the name of the company, but it was one of these deals where the help you set up a website to sell their cheesy wares-- and I do mean cheesy, as in harley davidson coffee mugs made in China! Anyways I found out about them from this infomercial. Normally I would have nt even considered it, but one of the actors from Happy Days was endorsing it, so I called them.
I swear I got so many phone calls and mail from them for weeks after that it was unbelievable! They just would not give up.

About 18 years ago I sent $1 and a SASE to an address in the back of a Popular Mechanics magazine.
The ad above the address promised to give me the secret to making money stuffing envelopes.
2 weeks later I received my envelope back with a carbon copy of a handwritten letter that said, "Make money stuffing envelopes: Place an ad in the back of a magazine. The ad should say that you will send the secret to making money stuffing envelopes. Charge $1 and require a SASE."
How young and dumb I was! I wish I would've kept that letter.

I am a new member here ,but i am doing Internet marketing since 2005 and earning money to pay my bills.
During my initial years I was scammed several times by stuffing envolope , typing jobs , MLM and chain mailing etc. But slowly I have learned that there is no magic formula to get rich overnight. When you decide to start a work at home , you should treat it like other business , means it also require hard work , investment and time to grow.
Just don't look for opportunities who says " No Work Required" , you will be scammed.
Cheers Amar

Someone at another forum gave this warning, which I thought it good to share here.
Beware of any stranger, while convincing you of the usefulness of the product or service, also try to convince you into sending your money as gift via PayPal (or any payment processor) for that product or service.
Do you know why you mustn't send your money as gift?
Well, when that stranger receives your money as gift, that money is - a free gift - you didn't buy to get the product/service. It is hard even for a judge to stand by you in such a case.
Hope the above is useful. Bye

Never send money if you are not able to contact anyone in the company. Check the website for a phone number then call it. If there is no answer or there is a disconnection, then this is a scam. If you are able to speak to a customer service representative, ask if you can get a refund just in case you want to return the starter kit if you are not satisfied with it. If there no return policy, run. Most companies that require you to send money for a starter kit are usually scams. The only companies that require you to buy kits are usually direct sale companies and you should find registered companies at dsa.org. These companies do accept returns from customers.

I Must Agree I stay clear of paid surveys as well.. they tend to be way to much work for way to little pay. I would rather spend my time on some good ol tedious article marketing

I believe the best way to avoid scams is to look for people/leaders instead of opportunities. If you find a person who has integrity and has other leaders following them you can't go wrong.
There great leaders all over the internet. You just have to go find them. When you a start a home business you must have a mentor to show you the short cuts and take some of the learning curve out.
One good way to find these people is through article directories. When you are searching for opportunities you will see that some of your searches come up as articles. Click on the and find out who wrote the article then research that person.
I hope this helps you guys out.
To the top,
Danny

In this age of information it is so easy to avoid being scammed. You just have to do due diligence and hard research about what you're getting involved with. Why anybody would commit to a potential life-changing business venture without looking into it deeply is beyond me.

Surveys for money seem like a "scam" to me. You can spend hours filling out surveys only to make a few dollars. So, it evens out to around a dollar an hour. Not exactly what I call a good source of extra money.

Hi guys! am new to this forum and have found some great tips on here!
My top tips would be to search whois to see who owns the biz - then research the name and address to see what you find. If you search the 'biz name' and 'scam' then you could be really surprised. The same old people seem to be at the top of every scam type of biz so if i see their names then i wouldn't join.
I also tend to prefer networking over mlm as unless you get in fast then you do a lot of work for little gains.
It's long hours but am loving working from home and wouldn't go back to a regular job

Yes, this too a great discussion that is why still it is discussed even after many years. Hi Vishal, All you've said is really true and of course i'm newbie and had only few year experience. But, I found that you've just shortlisted everything and more than what i've learned from my experience. Really worthy discussion as well as worthy forum. I think you are really doing very good moderation. At first when i enter into this internet world, i just shocked to know that i've won a bulk money from microsoft (or lottery, i don't remember) and start to frame a mail to rip off the money and but didn't send anything under my friend suggestion. What make me sad is that after that i started to not to believe anything in the web even it is reliable. Always started to see all the websites with doubt. My question is why cannot we trace those spammers and punish them?

When I first started building a marketing business I found several sites that you could join free with an option to upgrade for a fee.It took a couple of years but I finally pieced enough info together on my own and thru these sites to generate income. I do believe now days there are some software systems that will save time and effort, but for the most part it just takes patience and hard work. There are no free lunches in this world.
