So a lot of people get on forums to chat with friends, some get on because they are bored, and others get on to promote. Unfortunately most of the people that get on forums are only trying to promote spam aka "stuff nobody wants!".

The whole reason no-one can insert links into their posts is because of all these spammers that have ruined it for us. Regardless of how good and useful a product you have you will only get banned from forums if you try and promote yourself.

So how do we make money posting on forums? Well believe it or not the better the writer you are the more you will get paid. If a forum is filled with topics that are un-educational and boring people will go somewhere else for help or to chat. Some owners of forums will actually pay people who are good at writing to post in their forum just so people will come and read it.

On the flip side the better you write the more interested people will be in your product because they will see you are a normal person not just someone who only knows how to say "FOR YOU EVERYTHING HALF PRICE. I MAKE YOU BIG DEAL TODAY ONLY FOR YOU!"

So a word to the wise is this: Only post useful content on forums that people need. If you are promoting a product that is useful and good people will want it and you won't have to trick them into buying it.

You are absolutely right. The primary focus of a great forum should be exchanging thoughts and advice on a topic. This forum is an excellent example. I see people on here that have obviously been contributing for a long time, and you can tell they enjoy helping others.

Spamming sites like forums and classifieds wont get you anywhere. They will immediately take down your post. Even if they don't you create a bad reputation for yourself if you spam. If people arriving at your site through a link feel misled they will never buy from you. Additionally, people will warn others about you on forums like this.

I really believe the key to success in marketing is quality content, and promoting products you can be proud of.

It certainly can benefit all parties involved by adding value to a forum through your posts. Unfortunately, in most non work at home type fourms, you usually can't use a signature file even if you do provide value, which really stinks...

I must admit I am one of those people that comes on here a lot to 'hang out' with people of like mind...

It's like coming into a room where people understands each other and you can stretch and be yourself, learn and follow your passions without everyone looking at you like you just done lost your mind.

The key is to be focus more on genuinely helping people solve their problems than to focus on making money.

If you are helpful and other users gain something out of it, they would want to know more about what your business is about, maybe you have other solutions that you can offer.

Depending on the forum, especially work from home, make money forums, most people are already used to forum signatures and are "ad blind" so you really have to create a GOOD impression for them to check out your signature.

Spammers only hurt themselves. I feel sorry for them most of the time cause half of them don't even know they're messing it up for themselves. They don't really know any better or how they could get traffic or they'd probably be out doing it.
