Good afternoon all. I really, really, really want to do this but really want to do it right. Is there a great guide or amazing piece of advice somebody has?

Most of us here do internet marketing, and what you are wanting to do is more of a local type of business so I would advertize in a local magazine or maybe do a google search for rules and regs, but I have a friend that does it part time and she loves it.

I assume that you have already registered your business and are seeking information on how to market it.
Being a localized business, a combination of both traditional and online marketing techniques would work for you.
You may have to do business cards, flyers, posters and even T-shirts and distribute them locally. Advertising in local classifieds is an option to you too. Telemarketing (cold calling) could also work for you.
Online, craiglist would probably be your best option. You can also create a website and submit it to local directories and market it in local forums.
You could also use services from Some Email marketing companies that specifically market to local Zip codes.

I would check with local pet shops and see if they would allow you to advertise in their store. You know all their customers can potentially be their customers.
Also, if there are online forums for those interested in pets, get into the discussions and include an ad for your services in your signature. There may be someone in your area who frequents the forum.
As mentioned before, Craigslist is a great option for free advertising locally.
