Hi Everyone, Is it an advantage to use Google Sites instead of another web hosting site to get a good page rank on google? In other words are they biased toward their "Google Sites?"

Page rank has several factors involved.
1. Age of domain 2. How many authority sites linking to you (.gov or .edu) 3. Title referencing your niche 4. How many backlinks you have and are the congruent with your content 5. And a few more than I can't think of off the top of my head.
Hope this helps...
Jerry
P.S.-If you're just starting out, I would recommend that you buy an old domain name that fits into your niche. You'll be a lot further ahead for it.

Google looks at a lot of factors to determine page rank. You could try experimenting with Google Sites and see how well those websites do in the search engines compared to other sites.

Hi David,
I seriously doubt it would give you much of an advantage. The goal of a search engine is to provide a good experience to the user. They want the user to find the best quality information as easily as possible. This helps their own bottom line in the long run (better for advertisers, etc.).
Giving an advantage simply because you were using a particular host, etc., would defeat the purpose and not insure high quality.
That's my thought on the matter, anyway.
Blessings, Angie
