I'm really not sure how many people are familiar with Google Adwords, but just incase someone here is strugglig with Google Adwords, here are some tips which may help you out:

1. Turn the content network off. You will often get untargeted traffic clicking away at your ads out of curiosity. You can make money with the content network, but most people lose money on it, so turn it off!!!

2. Use a keyword tool to help generate search phrases. There are some good keyword tools out there such as Keywords Analyzer and Wordtracker that will help you generate keyword phrases. This will require a small investment, but what business opportunity does not? You can also use the free Overture Keyword Tool if you don't have the money to purchase the tools mentioned above.

3. Don't throw a bunch of unrelated keywords into one adgroup. For example, if you are selling ice to eskimos, don't put "ice" and "snow" into the same adgroup - seperate these into their own distinct adgroups using common keywords.

4. Don't overspend per click. Divide the total price of your commission by 100 to get the maximum cost you should spend per click. For example, if your commission is $25, divide $25/100 to get a maximum 25 cents per click. This means that if 1 person out of every 100 people who clicks on your ad makes a sale, you'd break even. If the keywords you want are more expensive than your minimum cost per click, then use keyword tools to generate keywords for you.

5. Use your keyword in your ad, preferably in the headline. This will help lower your cost per click, since Google usally gives you a higher quality score when you do this.

Here are 3 and they are all free

1)Free Wordtracker

These amounts given are daily searchers on wordtracker

2) There is also a free keyword tool here that gets data from google

Google adwords tool also allows you to not only find keywords by typing in keywords, but you can also type in your competitors URL and strip out the keywords on their site very quickly.

3) SpyFu Probably the coolest of all 3...this site gives you exact keywords your competition they are using and the cost per click. There is a paid version that gives you much more data and downloadable in excel spreadsheets...but the free version is good to start...

Advise on Google adwords is if you have never done it....Invest in a good course on adwords first and study it. You will lose lots of money if you don't and become very fustrated.

Google adwords is probably the fastest way to get targeted traffic to your website, it is amazing....but you better know what you are doing as the competition is crazy and only the ones who have studied and are very savvy are winning with adwords.

I don't say this to scare you off, only to take heed and protect your wallet...

If you read Perry Marshalls book he goes into alot of detail about how Google works and little tips and tricks on how to get the best price per click. This is a must read!

In my particular company, many are having huge success with content search campaigns. It was thought that you get less targeted traffic with content, which to some degree is true. But the overall cost of a content only campaign is much cheaper and if you do it right, you can reach the same people that are searching on general search.

If you type in "home based businesses" for example, there will be generic search in the middle and sponsored search on the top and right hand side. But people spend most of their time in the generic search websites. And that is where you will show up in content. So why not be where people are spending most of their time?Just keep your ads in relevant keywords.

Just keep in mind that Google is always changing but once you get a successful campaign going(which will take time) you will reap the benefits of lower clicks and many leads. Hope this helps.

Great tips getagrip!, I tried Google adwords last year and lost my shirt. After doing a lot of research on how to do a propler Google adwords campaign I tried again and by optimizing my landing page and ad and especially using "long-tail keywords" I am paying MUCH less for bids.

Not sure about point 1, you can get a lot of traffic from content network and depending on what you are promoting it can be profitable.

Do not dismiss it as poor traffic. It can be cheap after all!

Perry Marshall is a must read! Thank you this thread, hopefully it'll help alot of people save money and time from doing it the wrong way.

The products I promote go into exactly how to use google adwords. It's very detailed with video tutorials, showing you exactly step by step.

Maybe someone can help me get back on track.

Google has slapped all my search keywords with a $10 minimum bid. If I create a new campaign any new keywords are also slapped. Do I have to create a new account or should I just delete every campaign and start over.

It is a good thing I dont rely only on Google for leads or I would be in a bit of trouble. Thanks in advance.

I really like placement targeting with adwords.

When done correctly you can choose exactly who sees your ads(ie. very highly targetted traffic), you can get extremely inexpensive clicks, sometimes less than $.01, and you can get double digit CTR's.

I have a campaign right now where I'm averaging less then $.02 per click and 12% CTR utilizing this method. It is the best ROI I have realized in this business.

Google can be a ATM or a hole in your bank account it is truly sink or swim and you will get eaten alive if you don't know what you are doing
I would suggest that you take some time and really learn as much as you can about adwords before you invest your money. A great e book that will pretty much tell you everything you want to know about setting up a adwords account the right way is Perry Marshals Definitive Guide To Goolge Adwords. If you are just getting started don't do anything until you read that book trust me.

It's not a bad idea to have 2 adwords accounts anyway. I know a lot of marketers who use one as a "test account" with a small spending limit to see if a new campaign will deliver good enough clickthrough rates (since a big part of the google slap on adwords is that your account has poor clickthrough on its ads, therefore google thinks your ads aren't adding desired options to the experience of the surfers).

Once it's been determined that the ads perform well enough not to get the slap, they move the campaign (start an identical campaign) in the "real account" and let it run.

I believe this is within topic:

I have 2 campaigns running currently and my average cost per click is about .16c with 7/10-9/10, Great, right?

The only problem is that I can only average about 200 clicks per campaign, per day. How do I get that number closer to 500?

I tried just creating another ad within each campaign, but wasn't allowed to share the same keywords.

I am concerned about getting shut down if I create a different account entirely, use the same keywords and point to the same pages. I plan to do business with Google long term.

Any advice? Thanks

Hi Jadimon,

As you know, it all depends upon demand and relevancy.

If you've maxed them out, then consider using Yahoo and/or Microsoft for the same ad groups.

As an aside, you probably won't get as many clicks each day from Yahoo, but it's been my experience that Yahoo visitors convert a bit better. It also tends to be a bit less expensive.

Microsoft is also good, but not as good as Yahoo and no where near as good as Google.

200 clicks a day per each campaign is good in that your PPC copy is doing it's job. That means that you write good PPC copy, so congrats
