If someone is not aware of the importance of social media in marketing, two countries in the middle east; Tunisia and Egypt, had successful revolutions in past few weeks that started and had been managed by facebook and twitter. This is how powerful viral marketing on social media is.

Another helpful suggestion is to join local networking groups such as Toastmasters and those listed in meetup. Here, you get to socialize with like-minded business professionals, make new friends, hand out business cards, and--better yet--get referrals to generate more business.

I saw another list posted somewhere that was actually longer, but this list seems better because it is more concise and a lot of the tinier sites are left off.
