Please tell me, I have a blog on blogger.com - can i reuse the same material that i write about on other blog spots, without rewording them or is that a "no-no"? and is their any way for me to copywrite my work on the net so that no one can steal what I write and pass it off as their own?

Ritu Anand Absolutely no! You cannot simply copy/paste materials from other websites on to your blog, unless they have explicitly given you the permission.
Regarding copyrighting your work, the easiest way is to include a "Copyright" notice below your works. In spite of that, some people will steal your content.
If you really want them to remove your content, just send them a strong email that they have plagiarized content on their website and if they do not remove it within 7 days, you'll be forced to take legal action. Most will take down the content. If they do not, you can send a second letter to their webhost stating that one of their clients is using plagiarized content and you'll be forced to take legal action if they do not comply. Most webhosts will send a notice to their client to remove the plagiarized content or face termination of their account.

Another thing about this is if you are trying to get your blog listed by Google, you face duplicate content penalties.

It's not a good idea at all to use even your own content in duplication. Even if it is yours and you own it. Good original content every time I do believe will always rule and is what the search engines are looking for.

If you want to gain good quality backlinks and organic traffic from Google or any other search engine, all content that you post, articles that you write, have to be original and not duplicate content. I know that this is probably not the answer you want to hear, but it's the truth.
I agree with robinincarolina. Google does not like to see duplicate content on any website, even if you copy your own work and pasted it in other places. It will just make you seem like a spammer and not a real person. This in the end will hurt your blog's PR and it will not gain any backlinks.
Good quality original content is the way to go. I will let you know for example that writing an article on ezinearticles will go a looong way for you. Anything published on their website gets indexed almost immediately and should get some very good results for you, if you know how to optimize the article and use good proper SEO on it. I've seen single articles from ezinearticles get on the first page of google over websites or blogs that are highly optimized.
If it's good quality traffic that you are after, then write original content. Otherwise, you will suffer in the long run.
