For all those who make money on the Net, what do you say when some one asks you this question?

When I say I do Internet marketing for a living, I always raise eyebrows and it's really funny trying to explain them what is Internet marketing. So most of the time I say I'm a web designer. May be I should try Website publisher? Any suggestions?

Unless you want to end up doing an impromptu seminar on how to make money online, I'd just say "I'm in advertising".

I can relate to that scenario completely, having experienced it many times myself. Often I would just get a blank stare, or this question: "Can you make any money doing that?"

There are only a handful of people who understand or are curious about what I do. The majority are other marketers and webmasters spread around the world, with whom I've established online relationships, but have never met in person.

Seems ironic at first glance but perhaps that's normal for people who do what we do.

Lately my response has been: "I help people develop their Web business."

It strikes a chord with those who know what that is. The rest usually become curious and start asking questions to find out more. It gives me an opportunity to inform, educate and promote.

right now my main career is a cook in a nice restuarant, I love it but can only make a certain amount of money doing that only ex amount of hours in a day and it takes away from being with the family so I am doing other things also. I think odd looks tho would be an opening door to promote your business tho' If your not sure how to explain it, you could always say that you do online work and if they seem intriqued had them a business card with your website or a pamphlet that shows them what type of work you do , they might just pass it on to someone looking for the tyoe of work your doing.Or if in a hurry you could just say advertising as pp stated and make sure you give them the opportunity to let you know if they want more information

I do business consulting for offline businesses and am at the beginning stages of my online business. It's interesting how both business types parallel each other. There are a few tweaks that must be made here and there but business principles are business principles!

I just say I'm a home business consultant and give them my card. But I do get the funny looks. Usually people ask me if it's a pyramid scheme. I usually say that's illegal now, so then they get interested.

It's funny you all say that, I had a family member get me set up for an interview because she was concerned that I needed a "real" job. When the interviewer called me, she could only offer me $7.00 an hour, and I make anywhere from $12.00 to $15.00 working from home, and I don't have to drive, so I politely thank her.

I just say that I work customer service from home, and I do get questions like, "Is it really legit?" and I get funny looks from people, most of my family just looks at me like I've been scammed, but I've been drawing a pay check for nearly 2 years. So, hey, I just smile back.

That's interesting. I also get people's reactions when I tell them I have my own Internet marketing company. They usually ask "what do you market?". I tell them "I sell software licenses to businesses and individuals" and that usualy does it.

I usually tell them I am a Web Publisher and Computer Consultant.

That's when they all ask for help fixing some small problem they are having with their computer.
Then they get upset if I tell them it's a business and may have to charge them, so I usually just give a short answer on how to fix it.

Then I tell them to call me if the problem persists but there will be a charge.

I tell people that I am a web site designer -- because that is what I do!

I've worked a few different online jobs since I've worked from home. I started out as an online Therapist, so I told people I was an online therapist. They're very curious about how that works.

I also do website management which includes web design and I'm a writer. I have no problems telling people what I do, because they do understand it. They just tend to think that I get up at noon and sit around eating bon bons all day long, getting paid for it!! Hahaha

They tell me it's so easy for me to work from home, but it's not easy. It's the same as any other job. In fact, we all have to work harder at staying focused! I'm finally hiring a housekeeper, so that I don't start thinking about the dirty dishes when I'm writing! :P

When I started last year I said that I market wholesale vacation packages. Now that I have been doing the business for a while I say that I am a business developer and trainer - because that's what I am!

I'm part of Coastal Vacations aswell like PNL Travel.

I just turned 18 years old and love doing it because I can make real time for what I really want to get out of life!

I just say I am a marketer. If they ask I explain, but since most of them are too arrogant to ask (professors and grad students :0) I don't have to explain a lot.

What bothers me is not "what do you do for living", rather "how much are you making".

I disclose my income once a year when I file my taxes, the rest of the citizens should trust the CRA people on that .
