Hi Vishal,

I notice you've made some changes to the status labels for
forum members. Interesting idea. So, are there levels beyond
Silver and Gold? Platinum and Diamond perhaps?

Just kidding!

Hi Hermas,

I have the the badges up to Platinum status as of yet (Silver, Gold and Platinum). I don't think I'll be needing it further than that. Moreover I would require a designer to get a diamond badge done

What do you say? Do you like the concept?

Also, may be I should put up some where on this forum on criteria for getting member status upgraded.

Vishal,

I do like the badge concept. It is a nice way to recognize a member's support and contribution to the forum.

Posting the criteria required for status upgrade is also a good idea. It would certainly encourage more activity, and newer members would have an immediate sense of a person's contribution to the forum by their badge status.

You might consider borrowing a page from Google and reveal as many essential guidelines for upgrade consideration as is necessary for members to know what to shoot for. But, keep secret other elements, to make it diffucult for members to game your algorithm.

Just a thought.

Thanks Hermas for your inputs!

There aren't really any secrets though. Quality, frequency and topicality (number of forums the member contributes) are the three most deciding factors that will determine the member status.

I guess I'll have to beef that up a bit with some more qualities to make a Criteria page

yep yep!

For those who give credibility and prestige to the status of a member, it is a good idea to know the criteria! I'm actually jealous! hehehe

At first, I thought it was the amount of posts ie 0-499, 500-999, etc.

Quality: A resourceful post. Not just a few words post.

Variety: Not someone who just posts in WA (for example) because they are a WA member and are not contributing elsewhere!

Having a higher status can bring credibility and trust to the post. But I hope members won't abuse of it!

Have a good one!

Your concerns are valid. But member status can also be downgraded any time
