I have asked that questions to a lot of people - some agree and some disagree. I say okay. I do believe that everything happens for a reason. We just need to find out why. I guess I have come to understand that we never will.

I believe that things are put in our way to teach us something, or make us aware their needs to be a change in our lives. Do you believe in what your horoscope says everyday? How can one persons horoscope say the same thing to everyone under that sign. Does everyone have that kind of day.

I believe that it all starts with our thoughts. They say thoughts become things - choose the good ones. Think negative - get negative. Think positive - get positive. I know that it is really hard to stay positive all the time. I will not say "can't be done" because if you say that that is what you will get. Say I can and it will happen but you need to keep putting that positive thought in place of the negative. Over time it will get easier. JUST FOCUS!!!

Allison, I echo your sentiments.

I believe everything happens for a reason! There are no coincidences. I believe the circumstances we encounter in life are influenced by our individual thoughts and action, as well as the power that orders the broader course of events which we call fate.

If fate is a train going in a certain direction, then we are passengers on that train. We have the freedom to do whatever we wish while we are on board. We may choose to interact with other passengers, or not, read a book, listen to music, take in the scenery, contemplate life or all the above.

We can also disembark that train if we feel like it and take another headed somewhere else.

The choices we do make are prompted by a silent inner urging which is charged with guiding us towards whatever goals we may have set out for ourselves. And the goals we have set out for ourselves are ostensibly designed to help us "discover" our true selves.

Ironically, none of what we actually experience is important on its own. What's truly important is that we recognize and heed the lessons and insights hidden in each experience, and then add them to our storehouse of wisdom and enlightenment.

Inside our storehouse are intangible treasures such as compassion, understanding and love. These qualities help to shape our personal development as human beings.

Along with those qualities are the incidental and less important material status symbols we may accumulate along the way.

However, it's the aggregate of the positive and negative choices we make during our lifetime that decides our character. In other words, the ratio of our virtues to vices determines our true value.

Great article Vishal, although many Westerners won't read past the fist paragraph.

It comes down to the CHOICES we make, in our thoughts before our actions.
For most it is a re-action instead of CHOOSING an action (or happiness).

Mind is the Master power that molds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills:
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass:
Environment is but his looking-glass.

From "As a Man Thinketh" by James Allen 1902

I believe that everything happens for a reason, there is no such thing as coincidence, and we do not meet by accident. But I don't necessarily believe that everything that happens is important in and of itself. Neither do I try to explain, rationalize, or figure out everything that happens. It's not really what happens to us in life that's important, but how we respond to it (and I don't always respond as well as I'd like to). But that's all part of the growth process. I believe that God is in control of everything that occurs in my life. He either sends it or allows it. But how I respond to it is up to me. You can always choose the path you want to take in any situation. There are many paths to choose from in life. I don't believe in fate.

It's certainly no accident that I landed here almost 3 years ago. The result of the chain reaction is nothing short of a miracle. I could write a book on all the twists and turns that my life has taken as a result of this. Amazing and wonderful journey.

I do not believe things happen for a reason. We have no preset destiny. Our possible futures constantly are being decided on a moment to moment basis, based on the decisions YOU make, not some external guiding force. I will therefore I am.

But that's just me.
