Hi my name is peter and i am new to this forum. I have developed an idea for an website that has the capability of high income earnings. It's a hotel listing website that has a page devoted to each of the 15,000+ hotels in my area. Basically people who are searching for accommodation can go to the website, research the hotels and then decide from there where they want to stay. I don't want to get involved in the reservation of rooms. Lets say if you charge the hotels a small amount like $10 a year, thats still worth over $150,000 a year. Plus if you get enough traffic, google adsense might bring in alot of money also if you get 1000+ visitors there a day. Does wondering if this idea sounds ok to anyone, or is it a waste of time.

The idea is good but the market may already be overheated. As you are from Sydney, I just checked Google for keyword "Sydney Hotels" (assuming you are going to build a site on hotels in Sydney) and there are over 24,000 listings with some good established sites in top ten. I think it would be a mammoth task to top those listings. The sensible approach to starting an online business is to tap large number of small niche markets.

I play these number games in my head all the time!
15,000 hotels x $10 = $150,000
Sounds good but if each hotel had it's own page, how long would it take you to create 15,000 pages? In fact how long would it take you to create just one page - remember you're only getting $10 for it.
To finish the whole website in a year you would have to create 5 pages every hour, eight hours a day for every one of the 365 days in the year (apologies if I've got the maths wrong, but hopefully you can see what I mean)
No problem with having big ideas but Vishal is right - small niche markets are the way to go.

I think the only way you could compete would be to get some free articles from places like Ezinearticles.com and put them on your website for search optimization purposes...and hope someone finds your website among the competitors. Please note, however, that if you re-publish articles from an ezine, you have to include the authors name, and any links that they have included to their website or affiliate. Just be sure to read their terms and conditions before you post anything on your website.

And by the way, writing descriptions of 15,000 hotels might take you 15,000 years, but the articles should give you enough information to advertise with Adsense and direct link to affiliate programs.
