Hi there,
I've got some interesting ideas which I want to hold on for the moment, and ensure that they aren't used by other people.
Naturally, I thought the way to go was patents. Does anybody have any general information on patents? The burning question: how much does it cost? Is it easy to get one?
Thanks in advance.

I think you can get a petent for about $200. Just do a Google search on "getting a patent".
Whatever you do, be casreful about those "invention" places which claim to help get your invention rolling - really, they just steal you money. For more information, check out ripoffreport.com

Yes, right. If they ask for money or for too much details about your ideas, stay away.

Don't forget, you can also patent Intellectual Property, so it can be an idea and not just a material object or invention. Go straight to the website of the Patent Office and they'll tell you how to go about it. And yeah, watch out for those people who will 'help' you submit your patent, etc. I knew someone who filed for a patent and they said it wasn't complicated, but it takes a long time for the patent to be registered.
