I'm planning to put together a free ebook and videos on web design...BUT it will actually be about how to install a Wordpress blog. Having said that, would you consider a blog to be a website? I would think the answer is yes, but I suppose you could also argue that there are some differences between blogs and websites.

A web log or blog is usually updated regularly. Each blog post has a time stamp.

I'm new to this, but here's my 2 cents. I think that a blog could count as your money making site. You could make your own website for scratch, use a service like Squidoo, or make a free blog. As long as you can get traffic to your page/blog/site/whatever then you should do fine. There are some obvious differences between blogs and websites, but any of them should work. I would be interested in learning more about Wordpress.

Hi Keith,
A blog is definitely a website. Comments and other plug-ins are the two main differences.

I think alot of people forget that a blog is definitely a website.
Some post things on their blog that violate terms of the company they represent and assume it is acceptable because it is a blog. I have seen it happen to people that disregard this with their blogs and squidoo lenses.

Hi getagrip!
A blog is definitely a form of a website. I think the main difference is the format between a blog and a website.
I think a blog is perfect for what you want to do! Plus, sounds like it may have the potential to gain large amounts of traffic if you do it right.
Do you plan on monetizing your blog with ads such as AdSense?
Either way, good luck bud!

I agree with IllShowYouHow in that blogs are indeed simply a particular form of website.
The idea of a 'typical' website was, perhaps at one time, that it would have a home page, various sub pages which may also have further subsections and some form of navigation from the home page to those other areas - with content that 'could' often stay pretty much static after publication. One could describe a typical website as having a broadly 'horizontal' architecture.
The web log/weblog, now commonly blog, which I understand started as a simple way to 'log' occurrences (which became construed to use as a 'kind of' diary) seemed to start simply as a longitudinally/vertically designed updateable page of entries...sort of like a one page website with evolving content.
Nowadays it seems that the concept of 'traditional website' and blog are pretty much merging as most websites include a 'blog' - and if they don't they are missing a major way to get easily and quickly listed in Google and the SE's...
Alternately some websites are essentially blogs - but the have various other elements attached (hence making them more 'horizontally' featured..as per the original website format)...
Having said all that - I am NOT sure that I agree that 'How to Install a Wordpress Blog' is the same as a book on 'Web Design' per se...
So whilst a Blog may be a website...not all website design is reflected in a blog...But then you know this.
Whilst installing Wordpres on a hosted account with cpanel an fantastico is a few seconds work...I have also seen an explanation of manually installing Wordpress...and it was 'horrendously' complicated-sounding - so I'd maybe like to see if you provide a better tutorial (though, given fantastico - I hope I NEVER have to manually install a Wordpress blog anyway!)
To be fair I do like Wordpress and have numerous blogs...too many to keep up with as I do try only to put real content on them and I haven't farmed this job out yet!...But I've somewhat changed allegiance to the new platform I've recently been using which is that much slicker, and better featured.
Good luck with the free ebook!
Al

I believe they are definitely web sites the difference I see is that blogs are interactive and and the other isn't. Seems like blogs take more work especially if you post daily to build relationship with your readers. Both are worthwhile and can be fun, but different. Sonni

Yups. A Blog is a short term for Web Log ----> Blog.
It is a special kind of website that updating its contents has been made so easy.
That there are regular updates that keeps the people from coming back.
That the contents are more engine-friendly than the typical website.
A Blog! Bow!

How cool, that sounds like information that would interest me. I've not been blogging, but that is on my to do list.
That being said, I worked for an ISP before going into business for myself, and I have also done some web design. Since a blog is a page on the internet, then I would consider it a "website" by definition.
Merriam-Webster online defines a website as: a group of World Wide Web pages usually containing hyperlinks to each other and made available online by an individual, company, educational institution, government, or organization.
Does that answer your question?

I think your are referring to a blogging platform which is used to create web sites i.e. Wordpress.
A blog is a type web site that is is used to engage in a conversation with readers through posts and comments.

Oh yeah definately. If it is on the internet it is a website. The only difference is that a blog is something that is open to everyone's opinion and can be added to by other people. Where as a website is only maintained by a certain person or groups or people.
