Hi everyone,
I am sorry for possible offtopic, but I need your help in find new web hosting provider as soon as possible, because my current host (bluehost.com) is kicking me off, they say 'your account is using a lot server resources', but my website gets only about 200 visitors per day and my disk usage is 1500 MB (maybe they do not like that?)

Anyway, what would be your recommendations for getting reliable web hosting? Where are you hosting your websites? Are you happy with your providers?

I am now checking http://www.hosting24.com/ - offer looks very nice, but is it real that they can provide unlimited disk space?
I have contacted them about this question and they say something that "These days 500GB disk drive costs only $30 per month, so if some day we will run out of disk space we will simply add new 500GB disk drive with almost zero costs and you can continue uploading without any problems".

What do you think about it? Maybe things have changed in last 4 years? With my current provider I get only 2GB of disk space for $10 per month..
Any ideas and suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi OxyGen,

In response to your distress, let me explain a few things about server resources and why folks get the boot from a hosting company.

First, bluehost offers unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth. So, that's not your issue. The resources you are taxing are server CPU and memory allowance. You're exceeding those.

But, it's not because of your daily visitors or your space used. It's either because your code is not optimized, your SQL queries are too long, your PHP is whacked, and/or you are broadcasting. That over-taxes the CPU and the memory. No hosting service will allow that unless you pay a ton more for the privilege.

You'll have to either fix your code, stop broadcasting, or pay more. There's no way around that.

Good luck,

thanks for answer newbie shield, but who do you know those SQL queries are too long, php is whacked etc?

and how do I know I am broadcasting or not. I don't use bluehost, I am using host gator by the way.... so far no such an issue for me..

Hi Proson,

You're welcome. Broadcasting would be syndicating or streaming. Podcasting and a streaming internet radio station would be good examples. You create a channel that folks can tune into from their computer. It sends out a "program" to several users or listeners at once.

It is different from uploading an mp3 or video that sits on a page where it passively awaits a visitor to hit the play button. This is acceptable and does not usually over-tax the server CPU or memory.

I don't know the exact length of over-sized SQL query would be but if you have one that is dozens of lines long, that may be too long. Whacked PHP code would be poorly written code, code that generates heavy duty loops and other complex executions, or code that generates errors.

Good question, I'm glad that you took an interest and asked for clarification :)

I use Rimu Hosting - they have several datacenters and truly excellent customer support.

They will troubleshoot stuff and help you with software - even well beyond the bounds of what your contract says you have paid them for. Smaller - but a great little company.

They are particularly good with sites that need more technical requirements - such as Java, JBoss, Tomcat - or PHP, Ruby, etc.

Newbie Shield,

It sure must be comforting to have a behind-the-scenes familiarity with server functions and whatnot. I envy you!

Hi A8ch,

Yes, I have a strong passion for Information Technology. I bought my first computer back in the 80's and I have two degrees in Information Technology. I did the footwork so I get the behind-the-scenes benefits I've been offering tips for quite a while.
