Hello, I am going to be designing a landing page and I have to admit that I am stuck on which colors work best together. I was thinking of doing a bright (but not to bright) color for the banner or header portion and than going for a more mellow color for the body. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

How about a white background with a little color added in here and there?

A white background with some color throughout the site should be good. Reds and royal blues tend to work well, plus you can highlight, too. That's what I've used. When I was building my capture page, I went to some sites that belong to some very successful people and that's what I came up with. Hope that helps.

Hi tahtimbo,
Using a body background color other than white is a bit risky. Folks like black text on a white background more than any other combination. In color theory you will learn that this is the number one combo not just because of familiarity, but because it provides the most clarity.
However, you can certainly experiment with background colors and font colors.
My advice for body background colors would be to stick with the subtle tints of yellow, white, and beige.
Font colors you might try would be the darkest tints of pretty much any color you like if it will appear on a classic white background. It gets a little tricky if you are using both colored fonts and colored backgrounds. You'll have to experiment with that one on your own.
It also depends upon the theme of the site. With rock music sites, you may be able to really push the limits on colors - even going as far as to use a black background with red font.
Try to figure out what your visitors will like and try to avoid extreme combinations for the most part and you should be okay. Keep in mind that you will be creating an ambiance. Think of it as decorating your house and inviting company.

It sounds like you're saying do the opposite of scam sites, would that be correct? And does anyone have thoughts on whether to have a site that is free or one that you have paid for and designed yourself or by a web designer/coach ? The pro's and con's of each. I don't have a site yet and am not sure which way to go. Also new to any type of internet marketing or making money online.

I was also thinking to keep it low key. I do not want to "strobe" my visitors, nor do I want to make my site so "busy" as to detract from my message. I've done some experimentation already with my blog. My first try, the color was too dark. I've changed it to a browner hue, but it still needs to be lighter and alot more work done. Thanks again for the advice.
