Hi
Getting into the affiliate marketing business is easy, but earning decent money from it can be very tough and can take quite some time to make your first sale.
You need to be patient and have a lot of determination.
It's not just a matter of setting up a website and leaving it, you need to constantly promote it to increase traffic levels to it.
There's some great information available at Associate Programs website.
Basically you need to decide what you want to promote - generally something that you have knowledge about, then get your domain name, decide what software you will be using to create your website, join affiliate programs, create website and put the affiliate links in your website, choose hosting coy, and keep promoting it.
It takes a lot of time, but then again, it can be very rewarding.
Good Luck!

If you want a structured path mapped out for you, Wealthy Affiliate is an excellent choice.

I liked WA but it won't save you the work, but maybe some time. As they will tell you at WA, find a starving market and feed it rather than trying to force feed your product to a market you have yet to define.

THE BEST ADVICE I EVER GOT (AND FOLLOWED) WAS THIS:
FIND A MENTOR WHO ALREADY DOES WHAT YOU WANT TO DO...LISTEN TO THEM AND ADD VALUE TO THEM SO THEY KEEP HELPING YOU.
What can you do for a mentor?
1. Pay them 2. Give them an unsolicited video or audio testimonial. 3. Bring them more customers. 4. Help them market their projects....insert yourself as an apprentice by offering them free help.
Getting a mentor was the BEST move I ever made...in my life.
My business has EXPLODED since finding someone who would show me the ropes.
Hope that helps! Danny Arrington

Since I have posted this thread I have joined Wealthy Affiliates & instead of using their web templates I am building 3 websites & have been doing this like a full time job, I have found some really fantastic products too promote & some of them I have actually used. Although this has been a challenge for me I'm really enjoying it which is really important too me I have even been doing what you would call overtime working on this project.
The thing that I like about affiliate marketing is that you can promote so many products within the one interest area such as gardening you can branch out too different products which are related too this area.

Casper, I'm so happy to hear that you are making such good progress. You've got the right idea. It's a lot of work in the beginning, but you'll have less to do as time progresses (at least on those 3 sites).
Keep up the good work.
Blessings, Angie

Thanks happywife my first site is going too consist of 9 pages & one page on each site will be dedicated too people's feedback on the sites, This will be one of the most important things for my business as I can continue too develop all my sites based on people's feedback.

The search engines rarely send free targeted traffic to mini sites without a ton of content.
If you are planning to drive traffic to your sites by some form of advertising or promotion, then I suppose this could work for you.
All the best, Angie

I'm basing my website on computers which will have 3 or 4 main categories & I have found over 20 affiliate programs related too my site & I'm still looking for more, I'm thinking that I will make this my only site instead of the 3 I was planing simply because I have been able too find so many affiliate programs related too this field. The last thing I want too do is have so many sites I can't keep track of them as they say start small & then if you feel you can handell another site go for it.

I will use a combination of free & paid advertising but the problem with some paid advertising is that your budget can blow out particularly with pay per click.

That's very true. That's why I prefer to get free targeted search engine traffic. You can, too.
You just need to do your keyword research and write pages based on good keywords (higher demand/lower supply).
If you add plenty of good content pages to your sites (and get some quality back links) the traffic will naturally come (FREE).
Just stick with the one computer site like you were talking about and beef it up with different categories all related. The best structure is 3 Tier. Your home page (Tier 1), about a dozen or so category pages (Tier 2) and a dozen or so pages under each category (Tier 3).
You may be surprised at how you really can build up a lot of pages before you know it.

Thanks happywire 3 sites did sound a bit too much too start off with but the great thing about computers & products related too it is that it's something that everyone either wants or needs seeing that we are in a computer age.

Focusing your time on one website will help you keep organized, if you flick between several sites you start to forget what you have done for one and confusion can kick in. So take one step at a time, after this site is up and running and you have a consistent income and traffic start focusing less time on this site and begin a new one

So when it comes time for all of you too see my site & it looks like one big radio add you will know why.

My experience from one site marketing different products was not so good. I think people got lost and it was just too much information. When they are searching for a specific product, then i want them to land on exactly what they are looking for. I decided to take each product I was marketing although they were all related and break it down and do a campaign on each. So instead of one site I built 5 and now I am seeing cash.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but when you have one product you can narrow down your keywords and drive people that are searching for that one product, then you do the same with the other product and link all your sites together. I use squidoo and blogs and the ones with like topics are all linked as well as my articles are linked.
Now I am new to this and I may be way off base here if so please someone correct me. All I know is it is working for me and I tried both.
