I'd like to take a minute to ask which web hosting and domain registration companies you use. I'd like to know about both good and bad experiences you have had.
The reason I'm asking is because a friend and I are working on a project (details coming soon), and part of the project entails recommending web hosting/domain companies, and we would like to recommend good companies.
We are defintaly going to use Godaddy, since we have had good experiences with them, and we will probably also use Blue Host...but we would also like some additional recommendations.
Please let me know what your recommendations are.
Thanks!

Since I originally made this post, we found some great hosting companies to recommend for our project. After doing some online research, in addition to the two hosting companies listed above, we are also recommending Host Gator, 1&1, and Host Excellence...so no need to reply to this email unless you have some additional recommendations.

Have always used ICDSoft as web host. Have had no trouble in the last 4 years and they have responsive support on those rare occasions when needed.

I just signed up with midphase and so far it seems to be pretty good. They are pretty quick to get back to me with answers to my questions.

One hosting company that I use on a regular basis (I'm a web designer), is eboundhost.com. The 1 thing that will stand out with them is the customer service. You can actually get someone on the phone to talk to you regarding your concerns. But I would always recommend purchasing your domain names separately. I use godaddy.com. Very simple and easy. And that guarantees (God forbid!) that your hosting company goes out of business, your domain doesn't go with it. Purchasing your domain name independently insures you will always have the rights to it.

I will be using GoDaddy for domain registration and for hosting I've been using Kiosk.ws because I don't need a lot and I could start for $1 my first month and chose the bronze package for only $5.95 per month afterwards. Like most hosting and domain services you can earn from referrals as well without having to join clickbank or commission junction. It also has cpanel which was a bit intimidating for this rookie, but the tutorials included helped me get started.

I'm going out on a limb here but I'll be using GuardianDomains.com.
I'm biased that way.

I have been using 1and1.com. They have excellent pricing and packages. They also have A++ customer service. I use them over my own affiliate company's hosting company.

Do they accept international customers?

I deal with host gator and had no problems at all so far. I like the fsct that it has cpanel and fantastico, which makes it so easy to install your blogs, forums, stores and much more. A click of a button or two and it's done. It really also depends on your needs of service. But if you think of incorporating a blog into your site, then choose a host which has fantastico enabled such as host gator or bluehost.

I get my domains from GoDaddy.com and Namecheap.com. Namecheap has been running a promotion where u get the whois guard free with each domain you purchase. For hosting I use Hosting Zoom and Hasty Host, but I am considering moving to Hostgator because I've heard really good things about them and I like their deals much better than HZ.

I've now been with them about five months, and so far so good. Their support has been pretty good, in a way better than HZ, but I am still watching to see what happens as they grow.
Have you used them before?

I strongly recommend Site Build It. The domain name registration is part of the package. The program shows you step by step how to build an online business. It comes with a money back guarantee.

I, too, use Site Build It or SBI. They are not as cheap as the ones you have recommended so far, but they are far more than just domain registration and hosting.
They have all the tools integrated into their system that makes it possible for even a complete amateur (like me) to build, not just a site that no one ever visits, but a growing business. Their tools include brainstorming tools, block by block sitebuilding so you don't have to learn html, and all the other codes, a step-by-step action guide to take you through the entire process (both written and video - I love the video), world submitter that does the continual submissions to the search engines as needed automatically, an incredible forum (best I've ever been on), blog and ezine tools, form builder and autoresponders, etc... ...actually, I don't even know what all there is that is available as I am still a toddler at this.
I do know that I am completely sold on the system because I use it and love it. It is well worth the annual fee of $299 (although right now they are having a sale buy one get a bonus one for $100 for yourself or a friend - only till Aug. 28).
They even have an affiliate program with high commissions and lifetime referrals. Hint - Hint.
Seriously, I'd be pleased and honored if you checked them out using my link below, but even if you don't want me to get a commission if you decide they are as awesome as I think and sign up, no hard feelings. Just Google them and you can take a free tour of the company at no one's benefit - ha ha.
getagrip - Honestly, you should sign up to their affiliate program and include them on your site. They are helping everyday people who are not computer saavy to build online businesses every day. You may as well include the top of the line, best program on the subject. Some people want more than just a $10 domain name. Give them what they are looking for - a real chance at success.
That's my two cents.

Ok, if you don't know much about hosting or html, use yahoo. they give you a good deal and their hosting panel is really easy to use. I'm a designer and I do hosting for my clients, but I am there to help them if they run into trouble. You may find it harder to get the help you need from a big hosting company, and cpanel can be a bit confusing at first. I reccomend using an easy program like Yahoo if you are new to the game. They even supply you with an good FTP program.

Of course, it depends on the site concept, the supply and demand, how long the site has been up, the number of inbound links, the amount of time and work has gone into it, etc.... ... there are a lot of variables, but the key thing with SBI is that you are generating natural traffic rather than paid traffic.
I signed up with SBI in November so I have been working on that one for about 9 months. I have over 200 pages built. My visitors are gradually increasing each month. I started out with about 35 visits in November with just a couple of pages built. It increased each month, and this month I already have had over 6000 visits. I assume by the end of the month it will be over 7000 if the daily average continues.
My concept isn't even a really high demand concept. I have friends who get 1000+ visits every day after only a couple of months because they have higher demand keyword search terms as the focus of their content pages. I'm working on a second site that I predict will do much better than my first.
As I said, SBI has all the right tools available, but you still have to provide the brains and motivation, and do the actual work they tell you to do. Some people have more time to spend each day/week on their online business than others. All factors must be considered, of course.
Hope that helps.

I started a few years ago with Lunar Pages, but something started happening with their servers. Many people started having problems with their sites being down. In desperation, I opened a Hostgator account and never looked back.

I suppose it doesn't have to be. I'm sure that many of my SBI colleagues use other methods, like Google Adwords, for example to increase their traffic, especially if they are selling specific products and have a very high conversion rate of sales.
All my traffic is SEO (and I did end up breaking the 8000 visits mark in August - yippee), I guess, since I haven't paid a dime for advertising. I don't intend to either.
I hope that answers your question. I assume that is what you were asking.

I sell it and have friends that use it and they are extremely happy with it , some build websites for a living and they still use it. Their people average high in traffic someone once told me after studying them. They many methods to get traffic like Value exchange link program, etc. Sorry I don't know much about it, but I have read SEO is becoming obsolete as Google gets more sophisticated. SBI has the latest methods for traffic, some people say they are doing it the old way and it won't work anymore, but whatever they do works it seems. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't check them out. Join as an affiliate for free and go to the forums you will be amazed there. Many programs discussed here like Profit Lance are amatuerish compared to SBI. SBI is a serious program for people who want long term profits not by gimmicks either in a business or as an affiliate. Their affiliate masters course is better than 99% of the courses you buy and it's free. http://aff-masters.sitesell.com/AffMasters.pdf It's not my link either.

After reading robertlaf's post, I'm wondering if I've got the wrong end of the stick. Maybe my understanding of what is SEO is wrong.
I thought it was just building your website and content pages in such a way that they naturally generate traffic and then getting inbound links from outside sources like other websites, directories, forums, articles, etc.
THAT is what we do in SBI - if that's not SEO, then I apologize. As I stated before, I am pretty much an amateur. I really only know the stuff I learned through SBI and a few other things that DIDN'T work.
There are no tricks and constant changes as some SEO people seem to think are necessary to outfox the search engines. SBI's motto is to just "keep it real." I think perhaps that is why it works and probably always will. There is no manipulation involved.
Just wanted to clarify that.

Happywife, We are the blind leading the blind lol, but we found a great product to do the work for us. I just bought my first site, I signed a girl as an affiliate, then she got the buy 1 get 1 for $100 and her affiliate discount and my commission was $104. So we got them cheap. I have read submitting your site to search engines is useless anymore, no one does it, the search engines will find you anyway is what I meant. That's not SEO I guess, my mistake, I know little about this. What counts is what you said. some people were criticizing SBI saying X Site Pro was so much cheaper, $100 lifetime for as many sites as you want and that SBI uses the old way of submitting to search engines which is useless and they don't submit to article directories. Submitting to article directories is not hard, you should only submit to top 5 or 6 anyway I have always read as submitting to all of them hurts you as google sees that as spam. SBI will always be improving too, they have a new feature recently. Whatever SBI does it works, people love to criticize it as they say they can do it better and cheaper , if you are experienced maybe you can. BTW your sites look nice.

I'm back in the market for a decent "low cost" high value hosint company as well. I was using Kiosk.ws but ofudn there site to be very unfriendly, if only because it was designed poorly. To get to your Cpanel you had to go through several links it was all very convoluted. All the information was there though I must admit.
out of 10 id give them:
7- for options and marketing help 4 - for ease of use 8 - for pricing...59.79(for the platinum package) 10 - for getting me to switch hositing companies.
