Hello,
My wife and I have started our own web page, Mainly for her to promote her scrap booking stuff. I have been trying to integrate a useful blog into the mix for her. Any good ideas on the best program out there to use? I want good traffic for my promotions. We are new to this so any information is helpful. The site is still being constructed but it is up and running.

Yes, wordpress and blogger seem to be the most popular.
I'm just wondering why you want to devote time to a blog, when you would have better results spending that same time adding additional content pages to your site.
Because a blog is laid out in a chronological manner it's not as 'user friendly' in my opinion for visitors. Also it has to have constant new posts to keep it alive.
With your site, you can put the same material on it by creating an additional page based on the keyword research that matches your scrapbooking niche. You can lay it out in a manner that is easy to navigate for your visitors and is categorized.
Some web building services even have auto blogging features that 'blog' your content as you add new pages. It seems to me you get twice the benefit for half the work and more long term results.
Just thought I'd put that out there for your consideration.
Blessings, Angie
P.S. Why not put a link in your signature to your site so we can take a look? Go to the profile link at the top to add it.

I've used both blogger and Wordpress. There are features that I like in both. Especially if you can host it on your own site where you have more control over what you can post.

I've installed wordpress on my own host and am loving that situation. I would also suggest that anyone promoting a product in a blog be sure and list your site over at blogcatalog.com. I've gotten a lot of traffic from them.

The reasons to blog on another site are many. It creates a link to your website for one. You have to promote your website and blog to get traffic but blogs have different opportunities than regular websites. My blogs got indexed(found by Google) very fast compared to my websites. I used Blogger which is owned by Google. I think it helped. But I like what happywife said about getting the keywords on your website. The templates and site builder I use allows me to put my blog on one of my web pages. The web page acts as a reader so the content of my blog is at my blog's domain and on my website.

Great info for the newbie here so far! I too am going to have to agree with happywife in that all the hard work your putting in might as well be on an actual site, not a blog! The long term effects will favor you tremendously! Great keyword research will draw awesome traffic to each individual page on your site rather than to just a one page blog!

I would check out Sharethis.com
I would add this to the bottom of your comments. If you do this its a quick easy way to promote your post through all the networking sites your signed up for such as digg, twitter, mybloglog etc. etc. Also its allows others to network and bookmark that post as well.

Hi, I have been using Blogger and had my own domain made up. I love it because it looks like my own site and I can post links to the sites I am marketing. But, I am just starting out, so not really sure how much traffic I am getting. I would definitely like to try Wordpress.
One good thing to try too for a blog is ping-o-matic. You can choose a multitude of other blog sites that your blog will get blasted to. And of course, there are always the keywords.
Definitely going to try out sharethis.com
Thanks for the great advice.

Well there are lots of ways to promote your blog. Some are free and some costs.
Social bookmarking sites are a great way to get traffic to your site and also social gathering places like facebook, blog catalog and myspace can be adding to the mix.
Try using keyword focus categories on your blog to get high ranking on google.
Post great content to see if you can get your post to go viral (linkbait) and the different ways you can market your blog is vast
hope this helps,
Lonnie
