I have been on a number of sites that have at the top, "Flags" of
various countries. If you click on say the Mexician Flag you will
see the site in Spanish. Flag of France in French, ect.

What I'm trying to find out is, is this a software program or a service you have to pay for ?? Does the service translate your English site for you then charge a fee ??

Hope someone can help.

Thank you fore your time. Free Willie

Hi There David

Well in the case of my own site - the translation was done by myself and a friend (my german is not that hot!LOL).

You can use the google translator facility on your site - and many companies do. I dont know how the programming works I am afraid. There is also software which you can purchase so that you can integrate translations onto your site.

The advantage of the paid software is usually that the quality of translation is superior and the site doesnt end up as "gobbledigook! LOL

You have really got me interested in this topic with your post. I had never looked into the possibility of softward translators to integrate onto websites before. Possibly because I am fortunate to have cheap human translation services available - but whatever the reason - you have me thinking outside the box!

These days it is not enough for us to stick to the english language - there is a whole world out there who live and work in other languages and are proud of it!

Will report back!!

Jenny

You may want to check out the Digital Point Forum for stuff like this - they have a lot of people who are really good at web design and using scripts.

You can use ready made software, but human translation is best and cheapest

I would not be comfortable using software to translate my copy.

Hi there,

Although as a general rule the free soft ware has a tendancy to translate any language in "gobbledy gook" there are one or two that give a general idea. The only problem is that it is often not sufficient for business translations.

There are however one or two programmes available that offer human back up and reduce costs that way. And dont forget that their efficiency depends on which language you choose. Some are better than others in individual languages.

Regrettably human services are not always cheap if you live in a non multilingual area - professional translators can charge quite a lot (per word)!!

I am working on this - as there are many who need quality translations to put onto their websites and also a service of email translation when responses come in!

Anyone have suggestions of programmes that have proved useful here that they can share with us?

Jenny
