Sorry for a daft question but...... is Traffic defined as number of page loads or number of unique visitors?
Also how much traffic would I expect to see on my site after say:
1 week
2 weeks
1 month
2 months
6 months
etc......
what are average figures to expect?
My 1st site went live just over a week ago and am keen to see that traffic grow!! Just wondering what are healthy numbers?

What are ways that you are using to get traffic to your website? Traffic won't just 'find' you for the most part!
Try finding some forums that are related to your site - google ' wireless router + forum ' to find forums and then post in there with a link to your site. Targeted traffic is best.

OK thanks. I've had a few searches come to my site via Google, and some keywords even get my site in the top ten (page 1) .
I've submitted to lots and lots of Web Directories and a few social bookmarking sites, and adding new pages.
I suppose its difficult to say how many visitors a website will get get as there are so many variables.......
Quality of website, number of pages, where the links are submitted to, etc..... I understand we have to build a good backlink infrastructure in order to build rankings. Just wondering how long it will all take!!!!

I consider unique visitors the best measure of traffic to a website. More than 1000 UV per day is considered good traffic

Absolutely Unique Visitor count rather than pageviews define traffic.

Traffic really depends on what what you are doing online (your niche) and who you are targeting online (your monetization model).
It is really way much better to get 10 highly targeted visitors who will convert than a million happy click thorough fellows.
Some web sites really don't expect to draw millions of visitors, for instance a site dealing with exclusive real estate in order to succeed.
While other web site models needs millions of visitors and page views in order to make money.
So really know your niche, then try to attract the right visitors.

I think it's good to remember there are two parts to this process.
There is traffic generation, and quality traffic at that, coming from your marketing and advertising, links, jvs, etc.
Then the other part - what that traffic does once it lands on your site; i.e. this is where quality of website, number of pages come into play. These don't have much if anything to do with traffic generation.
Traffic conversion to sales, to sign ups for your enewsletter, return visits, these come after traffic generation and that's when website quality, content, and other attractions and onsite value come into play. this is the issue of what you do with the traffic once you've generated it.
Seems simple, but you do need a plan that identifies the difference between the two activities and what those activities are.
Obviously, you are doing well cranking up the traffic generation activities. When you get the chance, take a little time to identify and plan for your visitors post generation. Otherwise you, like all of us, are in danger of your visitors bouncing right off your site in their trigger-happy momentum.

consider that 10 targeted views of your site is much better than 100 un-targeted ones.

There are no such thing as average figures.
It depends on how you market your website.

It depends on who you are targeting, how big is your market, what is your product and what traffic generation strategies did you use.
