changing keywords

when i gave google my website details i gave lots of keywords relating to filling in free surveys. I would like to find a product or 2 that
doesn't have quite so much competition, so after altering my keywords in my affiliate control panel (i'm hoping some1 knows what i mean by that) does google automatically alter my initial keywords i gave or do you have to contact the search engines and change your keywords manually? or would you have to pay to change your keywords?

I would be happy to help you understand this, if you still need help. You posted in July, and might have already figured it out by now.

I have been using Google Adwords successfully for almost a year.
