I read different perspective on this from time to time. Some say you should have one or two great sites and promote them heavily. Others suggest it's better to have multiple smaller sites and work with all of them.

Curious your take on this?

I tend to agree with having only a few great sites. It takes time to get enough things out there to generate a fair amount of traffic to your sites and if you spread yourself too thin, then it is easy to have a lot of nothing out there..

That being said, I think it varies for each individual - if you have tons of time, then having more sites will keep you from going bonkers...as you are writing and developing content.... if you are anything like me, you need variety to stay sane....

if we work alone we just need a few website to concentrate. but if we have employee or we a team we can have more website. Working as a team is better than working alone

I have a few main money making sites, one for each of my chosen niches and many smaller related sites,
(with the exact key phrases)and ads, articles, Hubs, Lenses, Journals, Weebly sites all linking to my main sites.

It helps to social bookmark web pages you have commented on, as the page rank increases on that particular page, your backlink will be sweeter!

Depends on your interests. If you are interested in a number of subjects, you can have many sites.

As a rule I try and stay at around 4-5 sites per offer type. This way I can test different styles of landing pages/sites, etc... I currently operate in 5 types of offers and it is a full days work (not an 8 hour day either, much more) to keep up to date with conversions percentage, stats, etc... and to tweak them to increase my roi.

Hi. I am new here .Anyway, I have 3 websites. I agree with you. It's hard to put your effort in acquiring more traffic. It takes a lot of time. You can be more productive if you choose to have only a few sites to handle except that if you work as a team or you've earned a lot money to hire an employee for you to manage some of your websites.

Hi HappyGal,

That entirely depends upon your personal preference, how many you have on staff, and how involved you like to be with your readership.

Some like fire-and-forget while others prefer to work one or two sites real hard.

There is one HELL of a lot to do each day on a single site once you realize just how much there really is to doing it properly.

One good thing about having two or perhaps even three flagship sites eventually is that you get topic variety. M5 brought that up the other day.

But you might serve yourself well if you spend a good six months or so exclusively setting up and running your first site (after planning it well). Then you'll be good enough to do the next one or two in three or four months.

If you don't know much about paid hosting and don't want to learn HTML and CSS right away, I suggest you start out with a single SBI site.

Personally I like to keep the number of sites very small so that I can properly tend to them.

I have 2 main Websites and many blogs, and plan to have many more Blogs.

I did spend quite a long time devoted to my 1st website, until I got into blogging.

The way I see it is this - 'the more income streams you have, the more you will earn and don't ever rely on one product or program'.

Like many have said already, its down to your situation personall.

From my experience its hard to keep track of many sites and it involves a lot of work. Stick to one to start with build that up and only when that is making a consistant amount of money, then move on to the second.
