Hey all,
I'm new to the forum and giving affiliate marketing a shot. I am a college student who will have a TON of student loans to pay back once I'm done with school. Any general advice for a newbie would be greatly appreciated. Also, if I could be directed to a few places with good information on keyword targeting, that would be great!! I look forward to meeting many of you! Thank you so much!

Hi there, first congratulations on taking action and planing ahead. If you are doing affiliate marketing there are different thing that you want to use to get the traffic, leads and sales.
You can do blog, articles sites, videos, free classifieds...Make sure you start with one or two of this methods. When I first started I tried to do them all and I got burned and got very little results.
I change my strategy and concentrate in one method of traffic and I started seeing better results. This is all a leaning curve make sure you keep this forum in your favorites because in this place you will learn a lot.
Ask questions here, look for anyone that can share with you more tips and trick that can help you get traffic, leads and sales. This is how gurus became supper affiliates and build their empire.
Social media is good as well. Get yourself a twitter account is been giving me traffic lately.

Hi hurricane,
It's a great idea to start while you are young and still in school. Oh how I wish I had known and learned about online marketing when I was your age. I can only imagine how much money I'd be earning now. 
Affiliate marketing (and most other forms of IM) are not get rich quick - in spite of what you read in the sales pages. But, if you stick with this and build yourself a solid foundation, you'll have a handy little business working for you when you finish college.
If you're like most college students, you're time is limited. If you just commit yourself to some steady progress each week, you'll be surprised how it adds up.
Personally, of all the different ways to implement affiliate marketing, my favorite method is building niche topic websites. It's a solid business building method that puts your efforts to the long term best use. You are building YOUR business instead of someone else's.
As for keyword research and targeting, etc., you can learn a lot about that by reading SBI's Action Guide and their free Affiliate Master's Course. I learned the best of what I know from both of those materials.

Angie nailed it for you - I have used a TON of methods to try to earn money from home or with online methods and some work better than others, with SBI at the way top of the list ...

For "keyword targeting" search Google with phrases such as keyword research, keywords, etc. You can read about it from the top results.
You can also use various free tools such as the SEObook and the Google Keyword Tool. You can find them here:

Essentially, you'll want keywords with some search demand and low competition.
