I am considering joining an MLM company with hopes of eventually replacing the full-time income from my regular J.O.B. Is this something that I should even have hopes of doing or should I just figure it to be second source of income and plan on keeping my regular employment. I know that there are many people making a CEO income in MLM, but am also aware that this not the norm.
If I shouldn't plan on making career income with Network Marketing then I want to go back to school to further my degree. Any advice?

I am on the path of replacing my full-time income right now. It is possible. That is the reason I became involved with a home business in the first place. To me, it is not easy to work full-time, have a family and have a business on the side.
I am going for it! I want time freedom and the income of my J-O-B to be replaced. It is happening. I has taken me about six months so far buy by Christmas, 2008, I plan to quit my J-O-B and be able to sustain my home business income (s).
You should find something that you are interested in doing and give it your all with the time that you have since you have a full-time job. It took me a few businesses to find what worked for me but I am soooo glad I didn't give up. I kept searching, looking, taking risks, but it is paying off.
But you really have to want to do it because there are lots of ups and downs and sometimes you want to give up but if your "WHY" is strong enough you just keep going. My "WHY" is very strong right now and I am not giving up.

I think it is easier because a lot of people are hurting with the gas prices, food prices and I feel I have a way to help them in that aspect. In looking at a home businesses they won't have to use more gas.
That is another reason I started a home business also. I don't want to gripe about the food prices, gas prices. I want to be proactive. If I have a home business I am responsible for how much money I make or don't make and I don't have to complain that my job doesn't pay enough to pay for these things.

I would recommend keeping your current job until you have something built up enough to replace it... I have had really good months and I have had lean months but my goal is to have ALL good months eventually.
I have found that it is really easy to find people that are desperate for a way to work at home but yes, many are hesitant to invest into a business until they have done research - which I think is okay as I like to research things myself.
I personally believe it is almost becoming mandatory to have an additional stream of income for a lot of people as with the cost of living going up as it is , the paycheck doesn't cut it anymore.

Right now you should still keep your job if you're just starting out. Then, what you need to do is to start building the foundation of your business and keep putting in your effort consistently. Your business will grow over-time (and that's a fact!) Therefore, never ever quit. Remember, this is a long-term business that you are building so you're looking at between 5-8 years before you can become financially free. Hey, for a lifetime residual income 5 years is not bad at all and it is worth every effort and time that you put in.

I already have a day and a night job and my wife has a decent job too. I recently chose to do online network marketing targeting my position 1-2 year in future by only spending 30 minutes five days a week advertising the business. I am in my third week and got 3 new members so I am going to persevere since I dont really need to spend much time on it and wait to see where I am standing next year.

It takes lots of TIME and lots of HARD WORK!
I've only been at this for a little 3 weeks and thats what I have taken away with me thus far. But man is it fun! I love doing this, I'm a stay at home mom and just trying to earn some extra income.
Westfam, Congrats to you! That awesome, you must feel very proud of yourself!
I try to live by, positive thinking gets you positive results! Hearing that you are being so successful pushes to do better!

As mountainmom said, keep your job unil you make at leat twice what you make now. MLM or network marketing is a great industry, and I am sure that anyone, with the right training, can be successful.

I agree, keep your job (for now)! If you really work at it you will be able to quit in the near future. I am in the same boat, I am earning money from mlm's and if things keep going good I should be able to quit my job in about 6 months (I hope).

I successfully transitioned from Corporate America to the great homebased business industry.
I was tired of the stress, management, overhead, clients, etc.
And 7 years ago, I knew I had to find a better way to LIVE MY LIFE.
It took a few years to learn about me, leadership, finding the right businesses, teams, products, etc.
My advice is enjoy the process.
Do a lot of work on you, the industry, leadership, business and team building, etc.
There are a lot of wonderful trainers, events, books, recordings.
And Leaders are definitely learners!
Don't put yourself in a situation where you are struggling in any way.
You want it to be a great, fun, process of creating FREEDOM and getting your life back!
I congratulate all of you who are making the great change!
It absolutely can be done. It does take work and learning, but oh my is it ever worth it!!
Now we live where we want to. I always have my "office" with me, consisting of my lap top and cell phone!
I love this industry and I'm happy to help anyone with any questions, etc. anytime!!

Network Marketing: a career income or a 2nd income
It really depends on the persons goal. Some may want an extra couple of hundreds dollars a month, others may want an exra couple of thousands while others are in it as they want to match, replace their income and eventually to quit their J.O.B. for ever.
It will depend on each persons not only drive, motivation, persistence but also time, money and ressources put into the business.
When I started my business, I wanted something that need to have the following vital elements in it:
a) a stand alone product which offers a REAL tangile and tremendous value that I can use and that others can use as well.
b) a solid company that has been around for a long time.
c) a pay plan that pays well and allows for a meaningful income wihtout having to wait 5 years and a team of hundreds.
d) a product that I LOVE and I use with passion and that I cant shut up talking about the PRODUCT first then the opportunity.
After researching for years, I found a company that offers all of the above. Understandably, at first it sounded too good to be true and I took 3 months to fully research the company before I joined. Again, I purchased the product first as the product is simply outstanding, then after having used personally the product and seen its phenomenal value, did I start the business, focusing mainly on the product and not so much on the team building side.
The company is Global Resorts Network. I used the product already twice. The firs time, I was in Rio de Janeiro and I didnt use my membership then as I had alreayd made all the arrangements prio to purchasing it but out of curiousity, I checked that hotel, a top hotel right on the beach was charging about $1600 for a week while the same unit was available with that membership for $650. That really made me think that wow, this is indeed for real!
On my next trip, again to Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, I saved alomst 5 grands for my up coming trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brasil this coming February for the week of Carnaval.
As you can see, the product is for real and is offering phenomenal savings that cannot be matched anywere, let alone be beat.
Now, as far as the business side is concerned, I have started the business side after I returned from my trip to Brasil last July and so far with only 1 tiny little ad in only 1 magazine, I have matched my full time salary in about 90 days. Of course, I have invested time, a lot of it into this as well as resources. I have a couple of full page ads in magazines which will hit the markets in the next 2-3 months. That should make things very fun and more importantly, allow me to achieve my goal of quitting my job by this Christmas.
Again, to get back to the original question, it really depends on what is ones goal. A few extra bucks a month; a couple grands to help with bills; or to outright quit your job. Based on that, look for the right opportunity which is the best fit based on not only that persons goals but also their personality.
I have found mine and I am thrilled and looking very optimistically towards the future. Despite the current economic crises. At the end of all, its all about having options in life. This business has given me options to get my life back and to go after my dreams and live life on my terms. With each passing day, I am getting closer and closer to this.
I wish everyone to find what they are looking for as there is something for everyone, every taste and every personality trait in here in this home based business industry. Its just a matter of finding ones right fit.

To answer your question: Yes, it is very realistic to make a typical full-time job income with a network marketing business.
You should keep your current job until your network marketing income doubles your income at your job. If the network marketing company you decide to join, doesn't have real residual income (not dependent on new recuits or new sales), you probably also want to make sure you have at least six-months bills/lifestyle savings, not counting the personal savings you have now.

For now you should still keep your job and start building the foundation of your business and keep putting in consistent effort for your business. Your business will gradually grow. Therefore, you should persevere and never ever quit. Remember, this is a long-term business and for a lifetime residual income as the reward, it is absolutely worth every effort and time that you put in.

i think esp the way things are now the wise move would be to find something that works for you first.
mlm is a hard business with the wrong product, things just dont happen overnight you have to push and make things happen for you!!
ive recently became involved in mlm after an accident because i couldn't return to work. so i could do things in my time and on a timescale that suited my needs. the best thing about it is you get commissions for life and you can pass your commission to your children. i suggest don't do anything until you have a plan B to fall back on!!

I think you should consider doing both at the same time.
MLM is a great way to generate a nice residual income but that takes time to build.
My suggestion is that you start building your MLM business as a secondary income or working it part time, grow it slowly and learn what you have to learn in order to be successful, keep working at it and if you do it the right way you will earn enough to replace your regular job income, thats something pretty easy to do (depending on your JOB income :P )
After you have an stable business which contains both customers and distributors then you should consider diversifying and growing another business or share with your already friends / prospects / customers any products from another company that you like and that way you play on a safer side.
I would work an MLM for 1 year or 2 and then work two at the same time and even three if im successful enough, in my opinion i think that is something that needs to be done that way.
