I think most people are afraid to contact their warm markets. But your missing out on a huge database of people that can catapult you to fast success. The reason people fail and give up so quickly is quite frankly they dont believe in themselves and their business so then dont talk to warm market until they make it. But most never make it so their warm market is left to be closed by someone else who considers them cold market! Get the word out there, dont be shy!

I definitely agree. I've done some MLMs in the past and its because I wasn't truly excited about the product that I could not get truly excited about the opportunity. Truth be told, I kind of forgot that I had a business! But when you've got something that is meaningful to you, and even better, something that you use and benefit from, it makes it impossible to forget the product. And it makes you want to talk to people about your business, which is what you have to do to make it grow. I just recently got involved with a company that, when I saw the product, I knew that I was going to have that for my family. The opportunity was really just a way for me to get it free! So I definitely believe that the product should be a focus and the rest will fall into place.

grnwealth: The reason people fail and give up so quickly is quite frankly they dont believe in themselves...............Get the word out there, dont be shy
Very true - There is a virtual army of millions of people out there all grabbing hold of a dream to better their own lives and that of their family. The problem here is that no one has addressed their fears, reservations and inabilities.
Most get into a business and inevitably fail because they simply do not know what to do. Somewhere along the line, their guidance from upline has gone a little wrong and a weak leg has developed. The next thing you know, that weak leg is DUPLICATING the exact thing that makes it weak in the first place.
Inastar: The most important in MLM is exclusive and perspective product
Do you really think so? I use to think this way too and became frustrated with my growth. I use to say things like "Why didn't they join - cant they realise that this product is going to do ..........."
Having a great product helps, but I really think the most important thing in MLM is the people. After all, the MLM company is just a marketing machine for a quality product that usually can not sell well on the shelves of a supermarket. This is usually due to very low priced competative products that are half the quality.
When I changed my MLM business focus to helping people to realise their strengths and help them get their dreams, the world changed for me - and it will for you, in ways that you can only dream about.
Research this - you will find it right.
There is a quotation from a very successful man called Zig Zigler that I have put on a piece of cardboard and stuck to the wall in front of my desk above my phone. Every time I call someone I look at it - and it says.....
"You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want."
Regards Paul

1. Educate yourself and increase your self-value as soon as possible
2. Establish your credibility with your knowledge
3. Give away your knowledge

Hi there,
Great thread!
In matrixes you don't have to worry about building a downline. The spillover will do that for you. Isn't that nice?
But the topic isn't about building a downline. It's about building a SUCCESSFUL one.
What can you do - as a sponsor, as a leader - to ensure everyone in your downline is successful?
Afterall, you are only as successful as your downline is!
I don't like the word 'downline'. It's sounds so impersonal. These are people with families, hopes and dreams, with goals and plans for the future, with people who love them.
How much do you know about the people "downline" from you? Can you name their spouses and children? Do they have any pets, hobbies, aspirations?
We don't know of any better way to build a successful 'downline' than to build the people who are in it.
Or mentor is right. He never tires of repeating to us, "Build people and people will build your business."
Those words have become a mantra for us. May they help you transform your people as they have ours!
Many blessings!
Your friends, Rob & Rayvin Nyte

TheGuild: "Build people and people will build your business." I really like that one! I hope you don't mind, but i will use that in my blog. Business has never been about products, compensation plans, who has the best this or who has the best that and who doesn't. Business is about people, it has always been about people, plain and simple. Forget that, and you will fail. Remember that, and deal with people with dignity, and do your business with excellence and integrity, and you will succeed. Develop your people (they are YOUR people) and they will reward you by building your business. What you sew you shall reap. If you build them they will build theirs, and so on and so on, etc. Awesome pointRob and Rayvin! Like i said, if ok with you, i want to develop an article around that point for my blog [Link removed - Admin].

Hi, I like this thread a lot. There is a lot of good info on it for new people. Here is my 2 cents:
1) The most important thing in being successful in any MLM is that you have fun and love what you are doing. 2) While people DO matter, the product does too. When I signed up for my MLM, I had no intention of selling, I just wanted to get my products at a discount. I had done a couple of other MLM's, and did not have any success. This time was different, and these are the reasons:
-I love the products -They are reasonably priced so everyone can afford them. (I am talking about the only one of the MLM's I am involved with.) -The company is great and shares many of the values that I share -My Upline is AWESOME...BUT I did not know that when I signed up. It is a good idea to get a recommendation from someone. -The longer you are involved with the MLM, the better you will do. I have gotten MANY customers because their old rep disappeared. When people in the community know that you represent XYZ company, and they know you have been doing it for a long time, they will come to you. -The best advertizing $$$ I ever spent was on the magnets that I have on the doors of my van. -Customer Service Counts! I take great care of my customers, and they love me. (I put candy in my order bags, and give them a gift for big orders.) -Building a "Success Line" (I prefer that title to downline.) I used to sign up anyone who was even remotely interested in the business. I will still sign up anyone who asks, but I am not chasing warm bodies anymore. I really don't want to waste my time on people who don't want to work. I tell them all at appointment time that they can have as big or as small of a business that they want. I will help anyone who asks for my help. But I also tell them that I am LOOKING for 12 great people who really want to work hard and make serious money. Those 12 I will bend over backwards to help build a successful business. And I really watch the progress of my new recruits. I reward them in lots of little and some not-so-little ways. Over time, you build relationships with these people, you train them to be leaders, and you teach them how to mentor others. The best teaching that you can do is ALWAYS by your example. Be a great leader. Be a great representative of your MLM, and others will want to be you. Does anyone out there want to be Eeyore? If you are a positive, happy business owner, others will want to be you.

I agree, this thread is a good one. With any successful business, one first has to have the right mind set to make it work, meaning a very positive attitude & set goals. If you do these two things, you will go far. Being on this forum, I get to give great advice and also recieve the same. To all reading this, good luck at what ever you do.
To ytour massive success, Michelle

I like the part about training your downline to do the same. People who are successful in MLM are big on not reinventing the wheel. If a system works for you...use it. "The 45-second presentation that will change your life" is a decent read that should be on the list too.

Yes duplication is the key to being successful working from home. In my five plus years experience though I have realized you better have tools in place to allow that. I have always been a fan of voiceblasting to create organic high quality leads but now since the cost has gone so much lower I think this tool is something all sales pros no matter what business they are in need. My cost to acquire a lead has gone down about 60%. Plus it is a duplicatable tool that everyone in your downline should have. You cannot teach your team to buy leads, you must teach them to CREATE leads.

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum ad just wanted to say HI. I have read all these q/a's and agree with most of them. I have been in several MLMs and have got a good downline started, but, can't seem to keep them motivated...so soon momentum fizzles out... One question that I have for all you novices.... Has anyone lived in a rural community and had a hard time getting anyone to see the benefits? Is it just me, my community or what?

Hi, Don't forget to Brand Yourself - start early establishing yourself as a leader. Building a Google Image is easy - it just takes getting some articles out there. You can outsource keyword optimized articles for about $8.00 each. Even submitting them to just Ezine Articles.com alone will do. And - Even One a week can get you going pretty well. (How easy is that!) Keep in mind anything you put out there stays out there - so watch it carefully. Attach your phone number to all your posts - in your signature or Bio. Then when prospects want to know more about you and your success history - Just tell them to Google your phone number. (OR send them the link) That way the ads from your competition won't come up. This Builds a relationship with your prospects as they get to know you. Also ... give them incentives by making sure you can offer them an Simple and Proven System - that makes good sense, that anyone Can do and ...that won't burn them out! So.....they will Feel Comfortable Joining you and your program. Cheers!

I joined the Berry Tree back in April. I love the products so far and I've upgraded my membership to maximize my earning potential. However, I'm not successful at closing my prospects. I get them up to the point of signing up and then loose them. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes branding one self is very important. But you need to seriously look in the mirror and ask yourself are you truly the leader that people are looking for. Some many people on youtube or other sites with their hats on backwards wearing ripped up t shirts. I mean who wants to work with someone like that. When you become a professional and lead like a professional is when you earn like a professional.
Become a master lead generator, prospector, and closer.

To add to this topic there are MANY ways to build your downline...YOUTUBE has worked great for me as well as myspace, ezines etc. ALSO if you are working with a good team/upline they will usually place ppl under you if you are actively building your business- I always build under my team to create momentum!!

Hi, Yes I agree ... ear to the ground and support for your entire team. Keep them focused, motivated and success is sure to follow.
Too often sponsors fail to be keep their down-line informed and up to speed.

You hit the nail on the head. I joined AmeriPlan because of my sponsor and left 30 days later, because of the ones above her. I was very naive, actually believing that I would help people by selling Dental benefits. They call you an IBO (Independent Business Owner) but you have to pay a monthly fee $50.00 plus access to an email system and the toll free number. Then there were the "freebies" that were not free, such as postcard leads and business cards. Someone in the upline had discovered affiliate links and made money off each and everyone of us who purchased leads, postcards, business cards, etc. The worst was that when I let AmeriPlan know that I was quitting, they closed my access to my activity - I asked why, and was told that since I was quitting all my commissions would go to my sponsor. That means that I payed for 30 days and the money went to whoever signed me up. Lesson learned - their discount cards are not welcomed everywhere. If you have a Sam's membership, you can get health discounts. Their pharmacy program is available through other means. There is really nothing unique that they sell. There was a lot of hype and pressure to sign other IBOs. Those in upline did care to hear suggestions. All they did was shoot a bunch of emails (repeated) and have training calls that were more like "motivating" calls. The whole thing felt disorganized. I'm sure others swear by it - but it was not for me. Some of them have received "advance commissions" which means that they get a check for 6 months worth of commissions - If they stay in that business for a year, I wonder how much would they owe the company, if their downline poofed? I am in network marketing - but it has to do with Internet, marketing and websites. Business is pretty much network marketing, out in the brick and mortar world also. Let's just be honest and say we are in business and maintain a real relationship with your downline - they are real people.

You all make some great points. I feel that you do need to learn all you can and become the leader that people want to follow but I am also a firm believer in team builds.
The help you can get with building your team is indispensible and can help you gain the confidence you need to know that you can do it too. When you have others helping you get to where you want to be it just makes you want to help the next person get to where they want to be. A team effort goes a long way in helping everyone.

AutumnLight - when I joined Ameriplan, I never was contacted by my sponsor. Here she was making money off of me, but she never did try to contact me to offer any training. When I went to quit, I told her that she never offered me any training, and she told me that it was my job to seek her out and find the training. I think that this is a horrible way to do business. I think part of having a good MLM is good sponsorship. If a sponsor is not available, or not willing to pass on their knowledge, then that sponsor should not be able to reap the benefits of earning money from those under her. JMO, I know now, with the business that I am in, that I want to be available to those underneath me. Not only will this help us all to succeed, but it's just the right thing to do.

I agree! I've joined several MLMs and my uplines have never contacted me personally. They were all through auto responders or mass emails. All they cared about was getting referrals. That's why I was so surprise to see my sponsor and upline 2 levels up go out of their way to send me personal emails to introduce themself and asked if I need help with anything. That's how I knew for sure, I want to be part of this team. And when I get my downlines built, I want to be there for them and personally help them acheive their goals too.
