Okay, I'm motivated! I have heard enough mental ways to prepare for this business. I've listened to how to get my mind, my attitude, my enthusiams, and my beliefs right. I agree and I'm ready! But, this is all sounding like cheerleading to me - where's the substance?
Although I've been in sales before, this is the first MLM I've ever attempted (as an Ardyss distributor) and I LOVE the product, however, I feel like I've been left on the bench because I don't know what play to run!!
I guess, being in public education, I'm prone to see through the fluff - I'm still looking for the actual steps, the skills, scripts, the 'what to do next' - you know - the step one, two, three things. Where is that?? Does anyone have a resource: a book, a video, a site...where I can find a way to get actual skills that will help me convert leads to clients, introduce my product, etc.

Don't know if it would work for you, but I use squidoo. Its a good and easy place to start and it works for me. I also had a step by step guide, but I am not into MLM so I am not sure what I use would help you.
Where is your upline by the way, shouldn't they be helping?

I know exactly what you mean. I have spent much of the last few years doing a lot of trial and error. I have had good sponsors, but they are busy working their own businesses and it is too time consuming to take someone by the hand and spoon feed them. I finally feel like I'm on the right track, but I could have gotten there faster if there was such a thing as "step one - do this, step two - now do that."
I too am in public education. I think that it is the educator in us that sees the benefit of laying out all the steps to succeed. I am not trained in sales and marketing so I have no answers for why a step by step plan for business building is not available. Seems that if one were created, it would not only save a lot of time for newbies but also could be a great money maker for whoever creates it. I would have bought the manual!!

Hi LoLecia,
You're right - they rely on hype and super-charging the emotions.
They focus on the matrix and quotas rather than on the product as they should.
If you write well, consider affiliate marketing. That's where it's at.

LoLecia,
Something that may help is www.danijohnson.com. You can sign up at her web site at no cost to you and she has hours upon hours of audio training. It is very helpful. She has made millions of dollars in the MLM industry.

Fortunately or unfortunately, my upline is at THE TOP in this business and her primary focus has changed to recruiting since I've joined and she doesn't usually call, text, or e-mail me back, so I feel like I've got to take some initiative and get this thing on my own, pretty much.
But, what is squidoo, where do I find it, what does it do? ???

Hi LoLecia,
LoLecia: what is squidoo, where do I find it, what does it do? Squidoo is one of the favorite sites for making a free page. You can make as many separate free pages on as many topics as you like.
You can create links to your main site or sell products directly from your Squidoo lens (page).
Squidoo is a great way to try things out online.
Here is the link:
www.squidoo.com
If you intend to go with affiliate marketing, you'll want to learn about online marketing fundamentals first.
You can spend some time on this forum and read from make money online blogs for a few months.
You might also sign up for the free 30 Day Challenge to have some guided learning and a taste of some practical experience:
www.thirtydaychallenge.com
They are getting ready to launch their next series of daily classes very soon so consider signing up.
Since you are in public education and you can probably write reasonably well, I'd skip MLM and learn about affiliate marketing instead.

First, Congratulations on starting your business.
Now you have the dilemma of business owners "I am in business now what do I do?"
The first thing you need to do is put together a business plan and decide if you are going to build your business locally or market through the internet.
Personally I am not familiar with Ardyss. I would contact the company to find out what the company offers for training materials. Looking at the company website and product line is focused to person-to-person sales. A good resource is Don Failla's 45 Second Presentation.
On a side note. If your sponsor is not taking your calls or replying to emails because they are focused on "recruiting" there is a problem. As your sponsor their duty is to train and support you. They are not holding up their end of the deal.

Make sure you read thru the policy on that first.

Thanks for all of the help! I will check out squidoo; have plans to talk to my sponsor about getting more help from her or from someone who is more readily available to me. I don't know what affiliate marketing is, but I've committed time and money to this particular business, therefore I will not quit until I feel I have done everything I can do to succeed. (See, told you all the 'cheerleading' worked on me!) And finally, for those of you who don't know, Ardyss international has one of the best compensation plans in the MLM business right now!! That's one of the reasons I signed on; plus, the product literally sells itself: www.ardyss.com

I want to add that I have been reading The Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale, (which I think is based on one of his previous books, Spiritual Marketing) This is the best 'cheerleading' I've ever read!!! It's motivational and creates an energy that makes me need to get up and do something!!! Please, uplines, recommend it to your downline - it doesn't matter how long they've been in the business!

LoLecia: but I've committed time and money to this particular business, therefore I will not quit until I feel I have done everything I can do to succeed. Don't blame you and really that is what you NEED to do. It is often the ones that stick it out through the rough stuff that make it.
I think you are on the right track from what I gather thru reading your posts.... here is what I learned when I was in mlm stuff...
It is absolutely HUGE to be able to plug any new members to your team into a training and support system as soon as they sign up.
If you do this long enough you will not have time to help each one individually get all they need.
What we had was a simple website (I just made one by using freewebs) and then as you pick up tips, sources, training sties, training calls, meetings, anything related to helping someone get their business up and going... was added to that website.... along with a simple "Here's what you do to get going" checklist...
If there is nothing like that in your upline - create one!
You sound like a leader - be one!
The people that take the initiative are the ones that turn into strong leaders.
Cheers.
p.s. if you want to see what we had for websites like that, just for ideas... - send me a pm and I'll see if I can find my old site again.
