Hi,

I'd like to create a website where users can post comments about household products. I got the idea as a result of my husband contracting cancer. The idea is that a large array of products will be available listing the dangerous substances contained within. I'd also like to allow visitors to the website to add information about their own products.

The problem is what happens if a famous tooth paste is described as containing some cancer causing ingredient such as DDT, when it obviously doesn't? Will I be liable? Whats to stop me posting the same fact on Google Groups and Google not being liable as a result?

Also, do I need permission to specify the full name of a product on my website, or do I simple need to state on the page that this is a registered trademark?

Any other advice or resources which might help me?

Thanks,

Aine

At the very lest you should probably put a legal disclaimer on the website. You may want to just check with a local lawyer - they usually give free initial consultations.
