Hi!
I've been looking thru this site for a few weeks now. I've been very impressed with it. Everyone seems really open and willing to help and give feedback
I recently became disabled and am no longer able to work at a desk job 8 hours a day.
Like everyone else in the world I would like to find a profitable and enjoyable endeavor that I can work from home at my own pace.
I am TOTALLY overwhelmed!!!! There is SO MUCH out there! HOw do I know whats for real and what's a scam. I pretty much know that if it sounds too good to be true, it probally is. But I also know, from listening in on you guys, that there ARE some real people earning a lioving at home with their computers.
How do I decide??!
I don't have much (no) money to start. So I can't afford to throw it away on a scam. I don't mind working. I'd be open to a business oportunity- or some kind of free lance contractual work.
Can anyone help me get my bearings here, and make sense of all the info I'm slogging thru

Sorry to hear of your recent misfortunes. Sometimes these things can be turned into blessings for us and give us a new perspective. I hope that happens for you.
You are right about it being dreadfully overwhelming and not knowing who to believe or what really works. I admit I did a lot of praying when I started wading in these waters. 
There are ways you can earn some money without spending anything but time, but it can be difficult to get the ball rolling that way. Basically, you'd need to find some products that you felt were worthy to promote and then write articles about a related topic and submit them to article directories.
You'd also have to have some type of landing page (apart from the affiliate page) to use in the source box of the article. You could use a blog, a squidoo lens, a hubpage or something free like that. Then you would 'presell' your visitors from there and send them on to the affiliate landing page. When someone followed that trail that you laid out and made a purchase, you'd get a commission.
It's all well and good to say that it's free to do that, but like my husband says, "It sounds easy when you say it fast." The trouble is for someone with no internet experience to know HOW to do all that without paying for some type of training, etc.
There are some free ebooks available (help yourself to the ones in my signature) that would give you a basic understanding, but ultimately you may need to bite the bullet and purchase something to help you out.
It will be hard to make a steady income doing what I just described until you get a real feel for it and learn to not only do it, but do it well.
I needed more assistance getting started than most I suppose. I couldn't navigate the sea of information on my own. I needed a definite map or course to follow. I work better with step by step instructions.  I eventually found SiteBuildIt (SBI) as a packaged program that had the whole kit and kaboodle that I needed rolled into one easy to follow roadmap. It's not free, though. It's a bargain of a price, but it isn't free.
I say that to let you know that if you exhaust the free methods and haven't found something that works well for you, I can highly recommend the quality and integrity of SBI.
I'd offer you some freelance work writing some articles for me, but I know I'm not really able to pay what your time would be worth. You may consider looking into getafreelancer.com or mechanicalturk.com or something like that. From what I've heard, though, the pay isn't really that great.

Welcome PB,
Yes, I totally understand the feeling - but just remember that we were all where you are at , at one point.... and we survived!
Angie did a great job and to add to that... I think one of the easiest ways ot make some money online is to get started in a small business venture as usually you have ready made websites, training, and all in one package deal - but again, it is not free to get started in most home based businesses (the ones that say they ARE free to get started usually have hidden costs somewhere!
But if you start clicking on signature links and visiting websites - you will start getting a picture of what is all out there and then if you are brave and ask lots of questions on anything that strikes your interest - you will learn even more quickly and the fog will begin to clear...

Hello PB,
The first thing you did right was coming to this board because networking is an essential part of any business.
On this board there are a lot of helpfull people so I'd suggest reading up and post your questions. You'll surely get on track easier this way.
As you progress in knowledge you'll find out that there are certain products and affiliate programs that people are generally happy with. Once you've found a couple you can focus more on these and make your first sites to get the ball rolling.
For most people it takes some time to get income but when you use common sense you might progress more quickly.
Anyway, try to not get discouraged. Any road to a goal is filled with ups and downs. Just make sure you keep going and you'll be fine.

Hey, thanks to you all for your replys, advice and support. I'm going to check out all the links and info you've provided. I'm sure I'll have lots more questions! I don't know what half of this stuff is- landing page, squidoo lens, a hubpage--???-- but I'll be doing my homework.
I thought I was pretty computer savy. As far as using programs, and navigating to find what I want. But I know nothing about buildings sites and stuff like that.
Angie, I'll definitly be checking out the site builder, and utilizing your e-books. Much appreciated!
I am doing a little on eBay and Craigslist. Which is slowly starting to grow. I'm hitting garage sales, & thrift stores looking for bargin treasures to resell. I also hit storage unit sales. Where folks default on their storage unit, and they auction off the contents. It's pretty fun.
Hopefully I'll be able to get and keep a few things up and running.

lol - we found a small quilt in the dumpster once and sold it on Ebay for $40

Haha- Yes. I've had experiences like that myself. My biggest prblem is that when I find something really neat, my husband wants to keep it!

Welcome to the forum! I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. Sounds like you have a few things in the works with ebay and craigslist, keep working at it. Check out everyone's signatures and ask alot of questions. Hang in there!

A woman after my own heart! Whenever I get to visit my folks, that's what my mom and I do for fun. We love it! But, like your hubby, we want to keep it all. Well, we really give most of it to to kids and grandkids - whoever it best suits. I love a bargain!

I have been on Workers Compensation for several months due to a bad injury and can no longer work in the office 8 hours a day right now either, I can truly empathize with you. There is one part of you that will be thrilled to make your own schedule and another that will be afraid. I have gotten to where I love it and can afford to work at home now.
DO NOT RUSH INTO ANYTHING. Look around, don't fall for MLM's where you have to refer alot of people to earn. If you are new at this and on a limited income, you want to be careful.
Look at business' that have been around for 5 or more years with good customer service and a good product.
Do not fall for things telling you will earn $5000.00 your first month and nonsense like that.
If you take your time, click on some signatures and read, read and read more, you will gain a comfort level, but it takes a while.

Good advice annadenise.
I feel the same as you. I like the idea of calling my own shots, and being my own boss.but being on your own is scary, too. I'm also afraid of being overly cautious, and missing something good due to my deeply rooted scepticisim (sp?).

Hi Timba,
I agree with all of the great advice above. Perhaps the best place to start would be to understand the main components involved in online marketing.
You might start by reading through the forum here for a few days. You can also Google "online marketing". You can then visit several sites that explain what it is generally about. Additionally, you can check out books from the library (and buy some later on when you feel you can afford it).
You'll learn about SEO (both on page and off page), generating traffic, how to determine a good topic for a creating unique and valuable content that converts to sales, how to write and submit articles, how to create free web pages (Squidoo, Hub Pages, blogs, etc...), etc.
Reading through the forum will also help you decide which programs you can purchase to learn more.

Lots of folks start with that one and like it.
It's good to know a fair amount about the fundamentals before you try anything.
At last, once you learn enough from your free web pages and would like to make a larger income, you can host your own site.

You don't really need money to make money online. There are a few programs available where you can with $0 and use a portion of the profits to build a lifetime residual income. To become financially free, you need to earn residual income since this is the income you will make regularly with very little effort to maintain it.

Try to look for programs that don't require any enrollment fee. You don't really need to pay any enrollment fees or start-up fees to make money online. Apparently, most of the programs available today have these costs. Then, you can re-invest a portion of your earnings towards marketing and advertising your business and watch more profits come in.
