it really depends on your interests, time, financial situation etc all these can play a part in deciding where to earn you money from online.

For example i am an affiliate making money on commission basis, this means you dont have a secured income, the better you do the more you get(basically) however others work for a company from hoe on a salary basis meaning you have a more secure income and one which you can rely on every month.

Have a look around this forum, read some threads, do some searches, ask some questions and visit some signatures.

All these are great ways of finding ways to start your home business, there are thousands of opportunities out there and i am sure their is one that suits you, you just have to find it

Welcome Edward - I know it all sounds very general but it really does boil down to doing research as there are so many different opportunities out there as far as working from home and although we refrain from shouting "Come see what I got - it is THE BEST one out there"..... we all have our websites in our signatures and they are there for a purpose!

Hello Edward,

I agree with everyone else. You should research businesses that interest you. Best of luck in whatever it is you decide upon.

Hi,
The key is to find a company with a proven track record and history. There are soooo many new things out there that are, for the most part, copycats of the ones with success. Why would you want to start on the ground when you can start in 200 nations, etc.
Be prepared to work hard, everyday, for months/years, and never quit cuz someone tells you the grass is greener next door

I agree with Mark. A proven track record and history are very important. Just make sure you do your research and find something that interests you, make sure you get a lot of support from your sponsor and the company and then run with it. Having your own business is very exciting. It does have its ups and downs like everything else but if you just focus on your "why" of having a home business it helps to get through the down times.

Agreed,

I always recommend a business you would enjoy working at, for without work, you won't see profits. Secondly, you may want to choose a business which is easy, even if you don't personally like the product or service, it all depends on the individual.

As example, I don't smoke, but I saw the market for those wanting to stop exploding due to not only health concerns, but the cost given new higher and higher tobacco taxes. A pack now costs near $10.00 in NYC, so the strategy that I use is to find products with perfect market timing.

With smoking bans increasing at casinos, never mind more and more open air public areas, this too is a trend you look for before deciding on a business. I also like show and tell, not hard sell which many businesses depend on given marginal value if any.

This is why I use the portfolio strategy working mostly online, but choosing wisely for my offline businesses. I work several so I have multiple income streams coming in which is perfect solution for recessionary times like this. Look for products and services which address need, value and timing, and it always helps to enjoy what you are doing as icing on the cake.

Make a list of your favorite activities, then make a list of businesses that match your hobbies, interest level, whatever, but this is a good starting point. With growing health and fitness industry as the population ages, BeachBody just introduced a new direct sales division perfect for home businesses, so if you are into working out, fitness, yoga and training, you may want to look at Beach Body Club.

Again, I target hot products and services which not only I want to use, but know others will at the same time. It is all about money, this we all know, but if you can make the most money while having the most fun, then you really have it made, so good luck in your research.

Wealth Without Health is Worthless

I think Paid Surveys is one of the best ways to start a home business....No stress and nice extra money to have.

Of course, with experience there will be other avenues to move up to. But for beginners to start its a no brainer !!

Franchising is a great way to go. Why not follow a proven, successful, and profitable map to success.

Hi Edward,

As mentioned above it should be something that you are excited about but you should have a general list of questions that goes above just your "favorite" concept.

You should look at how easy the business is to start. is it s step by step system? do they just hand you a manual and say go to it? do you have amentor or sponsor to help you through the learning curve?

You should also look at how you generate sales/leads. is it a recruit your friends and family and spiral out from there? buying lists and cold calling? or do they give you an incredible about of training using online conferences and seminars, manuals and tip sheets, a sponsor to hand hold you through the first few months to show you FREE marketing, PPC marketing, pay as you go and then of course your fully paid tactics.

For me the way I decided was could I find anything negative about it, how much training do they give me, how do I generate my leads because i wasn't going to start with pity sales from friends and families, and then most importantly, what is the longevity like with the program? can I be doing this 10 years from now or will saturation and competition drown me out?

Ask yourself these questions and hopefully you will find the right one for you. send me a message direct if you have any other questions and happy searching.

Leah

Hi Edward,

Welcome to the world of being your own boss! You've asked the first most important question: How to determine the right business for you.

The reason the answers you are getting are all over the place is pretty simple: there is no right answer to this question. Everyone is different, with different interests, etc.

When people come to me to ask about starting their own business, I like to ask THEM questions, such as:

Are you excited to get up every morning?

Why?

What is the most fun that you have every day?

Based on knowing what you love to do, I can then match you up with a home business which will let you do more of that thing.

If you're NOT excited to get up every morning, then before you do anything else, you're going to want to figure out what it is that you love and start doing more of that.

I give people some simple exercises to do to help them discover what they are passionate about.

Once you know your passion the rest is really easy.

Until you do, anything you try is just not going to really work and you won't understand why. It's just one of those universal laws like Murphy's law.

So, tap into your passion and start living it fully. The right work or business will reveal itself when you are living the life of your dreams.

To your success and happiness,
g

Find something you can be passionate about and have a real interest in. It makes all the difference in the world. I spent 2 years hunting, and now that I have found my passion, I love it, and on days when I work many hours on it I am not at all concerned. It used to be that I would complain and think I had wasted my time.

You will have to go down the road of finding what works for you.

I would advise you to check the years in business, customer support and the product as well.

Hi Edward!

I'm new to the forum and this is m first post. But I am not new in business, because i started my own business in 1990 when I went out of school.

I think that you have to start with the end in mind. What do you want to achieve? In one year from now, in five years and so on. Only then, when you know what you want to achieve its time to find out what to do.

It does not matter what you do, if you dont know why.

When I started about 18 years ago, I did know that I wanted freedom. But in my mind back then there was only two ways of earning income. Ta have a job and a boss, or to be your own boss. And I became my own boss and traded hours against money. I had that kind of business about 15 years, because it is not easy to get rid of a traditional business in a smooth way. But in 2005 the time was ready.

Today, the only thing I do is to help others to start they own business. As you provably already heard, give people what the want, and you will get what you want.

I can highly recommend you to read this two books:

Rich Dad Poor Dad By Robert Kiyosaki. In this book Robert Reveals the difference between the poor, the middle class and the rich. And why rich people not work for money.

Cash Flow Quadrant By Robert Kiyosaki And here Robert explains the different thinking that people has about income. And of course he reveals the difference between to be employed, self employed, business owner and investor.

Then after reading, you may know what you want to achieve, and what you have to do to achieve it. Then is easier to find out how to do it, and what business you should have.

My vote goes to online affiliate marketing. Find a QUALITY legitimate product and start promoting it online. Easiest way to get started fast and requires little to no startup costs.

Many opportunities are available to learn to make money online and several of them can show you how to get started for $100 or less. Take a look around for one that matches your interests and abilities. Forums can be a great place to research to make sure you find the right one for you.

Good luck with your search!

You have to like what you will be doing in order for you to be really good at it. My suggestion is to go for a program that doesn't ask you for any money to get started. One of the main keys to a successful online business is to reduce your overhead costs low.

Hi Edward,

If it was me I would go after a few things.

Pick a company that has a consumable product. (as in you don't just purchase an item once....)

Pick a company that puts significant sums of money into research and development. A company who has patented their products would be the best.

Pick a company who has leading edge products.

And finally pick a company who's products are in high demand. For example, our number 1 concern is healthcare now a days. So pick a company who's products target this.

Find a company who lets you pick your hrs too!

I am with a company called Mannatech. It's been great and the products are top of the line.

They have an amazing compensation plan and a very consumable product!

Best of luck to you!

I agree as this is how I got started by promoting Mike Dillard's affiliate programs. However, as with so many of these things there is more to it than meets the eye.

For example you need to learn some basics about online marketing such as how to attract free targeted leads, how to give value, how to build a network and how to maintain it once you've developed it.

The great advantage that affiliate marketing offers is that you can quickly re-coup your initial nvestment. Simply by selling one of Mike's programs to 2 other people I was in profit.

If anyone would like more information about getting started with affiliate marketing please feel free to get in touch ith me anytime.

I believe that the best way to start a home business is to get involved in a program that will not ask you for any money to get started. One of the keys in having a successful home business is to reduce your overhead costs. Then, what you can do is to leverage a small portion of your profits to build a long-term residual income business.
