Hi all,
Warning this may be a long post....
I'm sort of a newbie (at least online) in retail. I have had an Ebay acct since 2002 and have sold off and on since then. I have 701 FB right now. Recently because of major changes there, I have looked at OLA and started listing there.
I also have taken the initiative to start 2 seperate online stores at Buy it Sell it. I have my domains pointed there in fact as it works like a shopping cart. I almost have 1 store ready to go live. The 2nd store will be an online thrift store (I recently shut my brick & mortar) and I have a ton of the best of the best to either list in a store or at auction. Needless to say-I have discovered that online retail is veerrrrryyyy time consuming. After stocking 1 store and listing 34 auctions-I am burnt out already LOL.
The other thing is that I wanted to start 2 other websites selling clothing via dropship. I have checked and bought from them-yes reliable.Just don't know if I can do it

Now here is the other part of the equation,

I have been looking at starting a blog. The subject will be me as a complete newbie checking out work at home opportunities. Haven't tried any yet.Call it a journal or what not. I would love to be able to make money with it because.....
I would like to pull in aproximately $3000.00 a month (this is my goal).

Why? Because if I can learn to make money online, my husband has agreed to go full-time rving. (kind of a different twist on the usual help me plea?)

So... I guess I am looking for tips and help in going to fulltime income online.

I need something business wise that will be portable within 2 years time. Not afraid of hard work. I have started two businesses in the real world and also have an AAS in paralegal studies.

So here are my questions..

1) Is affiliate marketing profitable? IE if I start a blog and use relevant to the subject keywords on the blog, and promote like crazy? Could this be profitable?

2) Site Build it sites-has anyone had a site that can bring in profit, ie $1000-$2000 or more per month or do you know of someone that has?

Anyway, sorry so long, but felt I had to point out a little of my background. LOL Does anyone want a mentor job?

Thanks!

Hi Deanna,

First of all, what is OLA? I can't think of what you are referring to, but I'm certainly curious.

Secondly, affiliate marketing can certainly be profitable. It varies on how profitable depending on the products you are promoting, etc. I haven't done it on a blog, so someone else is sure to reply about that.

Finally, I use Site Build It for my sites. I'm not up to $1000 per month yet, but I'm getting close. I certainly know a number of people who are.

It is definitely a system that helps you build a successful online business, but you really can't predict how much a person can make in a set amount of time because there are too many variables - niche, time spent building, supply and demand, amount made on each sale, etc.

I so hope you will be able to reach your goal so you and hubby can 'hit the road.'

Blessings,
Angie

Hi Angie,

Ola is short for Online Auction a fairly new auction site that is slowly gaining traffic.

About SBI- can you be an affiliate (for SBI) without having an SBI site?
I am trying to make money online so that I can actually purchase the SBI program. It's slow going right now. But I know things will pick up.

Hi Deanna,

That's interesting about Online Auction. I'll have to check it out. I assume the fees are less than eBay since you made the switch.

Sure, you can be an SBI affiliate, it's actually a 'Sitesell affiliate' and SBI is one of the products. It's free and easy to join the 5 Pillar Affiliate Club.

If you aren't committed to anyone yet, I'd love to have you sign up under me. All you have to do is click on my site building link and at the top of the page you'll see a little fellow that says 'affiliates' beneath him. If you click on him it will take you straight to the sign up page.

They do have great resources and tools to help you promote the products successfully. Let me know if you have any trouble.

By the way, most of the commissions are 25% and they are lifetime commissions, so it is one of the good affiliate programs to be a part of.

Blessings,
Angie

Hi Angie,

I'm not committed to anyone yet. I would be happy to sign up under you. It will probably be this Monday, as this weekend is a little crazy.

There was an interesting post on powersellers unite by a poster about SBI regarding owning your own Ebay traffic. I totally had to agree with her and she only made me want to purchase the program more.

Everyone keeps mentioning the R (recession) word and I have to wonder if this does not affect online retail a little.

Its good to diversify, thus I'm really looking at other avenues besides auctions and online stores.

Talk to you later,

Great! I'll look forward to helping you out as I'm able.

Yes, there is quite a bit of talk in the SBI forum, etc., about making the most of eBay with your site rather just eBay. I don't 'do' eBay myself, although I do shop there often.

Yes, recession may affect online retail a little, but I suspect only luxury niches. Some things people are going to buy regardless. You'll love the access you get to the forum (even as an affiliate you get free access) because it is a rich wealth of information for all areas of marketing.

Have a good weekend.

Blessings,
Angie

Hi Angie,

I just signed up as an affiliate using your link. Hope I can actually buy the program in the near future as it looks like a really good program.

Hi Deanna,

As Angie mentioned affiliate marketing can be very rewarding. You can also earn with the use of Adsense on your site(s) or blog(s). Then there is also the ability to sell your own products (ebooks).

One blog or one website probably won't do it, it may, but ... Once you have started earning via one site or blog, find another niche and do the same thing ("rinse an repeat").

If your first site starts pulling in $500 or $1,000 each month, wouldn't it be nice to have 2, 3,4,5, or even 15 other ones out there doing the same thing?
