This is coming from someone who has absolutely no experience in home based business and all it entails. I'm just a newbie compared to so many of you. If you could offer your most valuable piece of advice, what would it be?

I am planning to learn from all of you who take the time to reply to posts such as mine. I want my home based business to be the best it can be, but I don't feel as if I have the luxury of years to do this hit-or-miss or by trial and error.

So, thank you in advance!

Hey Denise,

You're doing it... Ask questions!

Investigate whatever your interests are, you are a writer, so look at whatever comes up on a websearch. I know you have looked into many different options, however, I think you are apprehensive in taking that big step.

As long as you don't invest too much money in something you're not sure of, what can it hurt?

It is good to learn as much as possible, just don't be the person that never graduates.

Good Luck,

Joe

Sorry if that was too harsh.
J.

Very good point Joe!

Majority of us often (including me at one time) get into a mode of learning as much as possible, often forgetting/hesitating to take the plunge and apply what we have learnt. The knowledge we gained in our schools and colleges never prepares us to face life and be independent. You can't ever learn cycling without actually riding the bike and having a fall. Similarly, you can't ever learn to face life without breaking the shackles of the learning mode and entering into practical mode.

"Knowledge informs us, but wisdom transforms us."

My advice would be - Diversify, Educate and then Capitalize.

Be absolutely convinced about exactly what you want to accomplish, then resolve to do something everyday to make it happen.

As Joe observed, you've already started by asking questions. Asking questions suggests you are in search of something. In your case that is:

I want my home based business to be the best it can be...

On an intuitive level I'm sure you know what you mean by "the best it can be" but that wording is vague. It could be restated in a more specific and measurable form to give it power.

Example: "I want my home based business to be recognized as a valuable Internet resource for writers."

Just reading that revised statement focuses your thinking and stimulates ideas on ways you could bring that to life.

The only commodity we all have in common is time - 1440 minutes everyday to do with as we please. How we use that time is more important than how much time we have.

(I'm reminded of Vishal's recent post about the two woodcutters titled: Increasing Your Efficiency in Work - http://www.work-at-home-forum.com/2_646_0.html)

And Vishal's quotation - "Knowledge informs us, but wisdom transforms us" - is right on the money. Knowledge is raw data, but wisdom is the information and insight that can be extracted from the data. Wisdom comes from experiencing which comes from doing.

So, if I had to capsulate all the above, I'd borrow the slogan from a well-known sneaker company and simply say: Just do it!

Hey Denise,

I found something today on ProBlogger by a guest writer, Jackie Willey. I think you will find it interesting reading.

Make sure to follow some of the links to Jackie's Blogs just to see what they are like.

Hope this helps a little,

You guys are AWESOME! Thank you for much for your advice, and even more, your encouragement to just take the plunge. I believe I shall get off the fence and take the plunge.

Reading your comments has made me realize that yes, I have been hesitating. I just didn't realize I was so bad!

And Joe, you were not harsh. I appreciate your time, and that of the others who respond to my endless questions.

I shall check out these links and start working on my 'new' site this coming weekend.

Thanks for the PUSH, guys!

Beth,
I see your posts in other topics - in regard to 12DailyPro, I am glad that you are making $$ with it. But if it was so great, why isn't everyone doing it? By the way, I did ask you a question this evening about it in the Casual Chat section, under College Student Needs $$. I'll check back in tomorrow.

I mentioned earlier that I have trouble with my internet connection. I get bumped a lot where I am, so don't think that website surfing would be beneficial to me...

Complimenting Hermas' post...

Be absolutely convinced about exactly what you want to accomplish, then resolve to do something everyday to make it happen.

One more important thing to keep in mind is to contemplate whether you really love doing what you intend to do to. Don't let money be the only driving force. Having your focus only on ways to create money limits your creativity and your spiritual growth.

God has gifted each of us with a unique personality and if we contemplate to discover and grow it, life will be a more satisfying and rewarding experience. Think about this. In a 24 hour day, we spend 8 hours sleeping, 1 hour eating, 8-10 hours working and 5-7 hours relaxing and enjoying. We work for the maximum amount of time in a day and if we don't enjoy it, how can we experience happiness and peace of mind. This looks very simple but, many fail to understand it.

Money is important but it should not be the driving force of life.
