The internet has made it easier for entrepreneurs to start a business, but that does not mean there isn't work to be done, quite the contrary. An online business implies and requires a lot of work and time trading.

Since the dawn of network marketing, the so called 'gurus' of the field are ready to showing you a big commission check implying that all happened overnight. What they don't disclose is the amount of money they've spent on setting up their site, advertising, and the time, money and effort involved on building their businesses.

'Gurus' have misled people with their long one page sales site offering you their "big secret manual to success", usually for $39 or $67, into thinking that the earnings they've achieved (many instances fabricated) are the result of an almost effortless activity. What they do not disclose is that the origin of their revenue, and the amount shown as prove, comes from selling those silly, crappy and useless pamphlets to inexperienced beginners, desperately looking for a way to earn some bucks online.

Great points! And you're right about the way they don't reveal any details about their cash flow, their bank account, etc.

Another thing that really gets me is inexperienced people posting in forums. You have people giving out advice, acting like they know so much, have very much experience, etc. If, however, in the sig of everyone's post was an accounting of how much that person has made online, we would have a whole lot less BS in our forums.

This is why I just have to shake my head when I encounter people on forums saying that you can learn just as much from a free forum as you can a paid membership. Anyway, that's just my personal soapbox.

But, if anyone who is trying to sell you on something that "works", the best selling point would be to show some documentation of actual cash made. Why is it that we see so few people doing that? Well, surely we can all answer that question for ourselves.

I have, however, seen people show screenshots of their ClickBank earnings. Like I said, this would be a great selling point for experts and gurus if they really want you to believe what they are saying.

Another thing that makes me want to laugh is when you see some guru promoting an "opportunity" that goes something like this. "I'm going to make 10 millionaires in the next two months. Do YOU want to be one of them?" Gheez Louise!!! That guru isn't interested in making 10 millionaires. Rather, he's interested in making ONE millionaire!!!

It's all these kinds of shenanigans that make people wary of the real and true opportunities, which is too bad. There are real and true opportunities out there, but they take work. People out there selling courses and e-books 90% of the time are just dangling carrots in front of you trying to lead you to believe that you can post an article out on the web somewhere and then cash is going to just start rolling into your bank account. Yep, if they were to divulge how many hours of work were required, they would have far fewer sales!

Great topic! Thanks for starting this thread!

Thanks happywife!
I'm going to make 10 millionaires in the next two months...

I have seen it too. It's like you said, he is the one pursuing the riches, and people still believe that a guy who is not millionaire himself, will make them millionaires!

I could safely say than more than 90% of those ebooks are just documents full of affiliate links of the author trying to sell you something.

Thanks everybody for commenting.

I can attest to the work part and also to the guru's who mislead you. After searching, reading, and trying a lot of things, a few weeks ago I found a mentor, Terry Dean. I have found him to be what he says. He has integrity and is very exact in his teachings. I am a total newbie at this stuff so I don't understand some things, but I try to do what he says and to my surprise, if I take it one step at a time it isn't so hard to figure out. But it does take time, work and focus. When I'm done with the training I should be able to do my own thing, so I'll keep you posted on how things go. Good luck to everyone here. Everyone is very helpful.

Indeed, like in any human activity or situation, there are few exceptions to the rules...

But I still believe that regardless the 'Guru' is an honest and reliable kind of person, he still cannot teach you to get rich quick.

Thanks for sharing your experience, nancyj!

Please keep us posted.

Amen and amen!

But you know, I am actually kinda glad that it is does take work because it culls it all down to the kind of people we get to hang out with on this forum, like yourself and many others.

Exactly. I bought a couple of things but went right into article marketing because I couldn't afford PPC. It was work and I'm glad it was. Now I know how to work smarter not harder.

Wow...have I EVER ranted about this topic! I am an ANTI-GURU. They feed off of brand new marketers. I am not self promoting here...just adding a video to the conversation..hope that is allowed. As Rich Schefren was blowing MASSIVE HOT AIR about his Attention Age Doctrine, I got fired up and made this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=F29NLiN2dbI

I understand why they do what they do...but it is the reason that the 97%+++ failure rate exists. People spend their money on the stuff they are not ready to use. Most people can't even get a visitor to their site much less create a massive product launch.

I've been reading a lot of rabble by all these so called guru's and reading a lot of stuff on this forum, but haven't posted.....just kind of hiding in the corner, and observing.

But When ever I do see something that's all hyped up and such....I normally try and do my homework on the product (ebook, 90% of the time) and more than likely can download it for free from the same place I download my music and movies.....and I've read countless amounts of ebooks and news letters saying essentially the same thing, on all the get rich quick schemes most of the time using affiliates and adwords. But I'm just ranting and such like most other people that's posted...but yeah....Still looking for the "Right" program to use to try and make some sort of second income.....Weather it be less than what I'm making now, anything would be nice really.

I don't completely agree with the free forum is as good as the paid membership.

I am a member of a paid site and it is well worth the money. Just look around and ask for advice before joining up to any.

Again, my advice to any new marketer is to find a mentor. Someone who is not heavily loaded down with huge product launches or 5,000 students.

Find someone who will take the time to explain what he learned last month by trying something you are thinking about trying yourself.

They only need to be a few steps ahead of you in terms of success. There is immense value in a person that will take the time to show you even the simplest things. You will get WAY more from a mentor than ANY guru ANY day.
