I have just joined this forum today , and I must say it has automatically saved me almost $100 dollars. I have read everything posted on the hometypers scam and they have the same thing about paidrefunds which I was about to do. I am an at home mother of four who has recently lost my job and have been looking for something legitimate to pursue from home. There seems to be more scams than not out there so I've been rather wary. I did come across an idea for starting an online store, but would like to talk to someone who has been successful with such. I am not looking to "get rich overnight" I know these things take time and work and I'm not afraid to apply some elbow grease. I would like to hire a web designer for the site. My products would be coming from a catalog - I'm still wondering how do you get the pictures on the site? If anyone has a referral for a good web designer that would be helpful as well. I would like to set up an 800 number to take orders from the phone as well - but don't know how I would process payments this way any suggestions would be helpful. Once again, wonderful site. I am looking forward to being an active member.

It would also be helpful if you knew some basic HTML. After trying webpage building tutorials and software, and not having the money to hire a web designer, I picked up several books from the library, surfed the net for website building information and ultimately learned how to do most of it myself.

If you type in 'Building your own website' into the searchbar, you'll find dozens of sites that show you how to do it. Having control over your own site is very important so that you can make changes and address problems immediately.

I'm also very new to this forum, but have already found much helpful information and advice.

Welcome to the forum isitthetruth

You can find good web designers by posting your requirements on freelance sites like guru.com and elance.com.

As Denise mentioned, if you are not averse to learning new things, it always helps to have some extra knowledge on stuff like html and basic photo editing. It's not all that difficult and there are so many good reference sites on webdesigning.

There are also lot of shopping cart scripts/software that you can use to create online stores. You can find a good collection at:

First I must applaud your decision to work from home, which seems to be firmly rooted in reality.

That sober attitude will be your lifeline when you are being tossed about the turbulent and challenging waters of Internet marketing. It will also serve to improve your chances of success.

I strongly support the advice by Denise and Vishal regarding learning new things and developing extra knowledge, especially in HTML, Web design and Web graphics. It'll remove much of the mystery, reveal the inner workings and improve your understanding and confidence.

You'll also be in a better position to identify precisely what YOU want and need, rather than simply accept what some Web designer or graphic artist may want to SELL you.

Here is a site you should visit web-source.net

You'll find it to be particularly useful and inspirational because:

1. it contains much valuable information on starting an online business.
2. it is managed by a single mother of four.

My sincerest wish to you for success and accomplishment in your quest.

Hermas

Hey isitthetruth,

If you have limited start up resources.
I found a free web hosting site that you could use as long as you don't mind "yoursite.freespaces.com". Try http://www.freespaces.com

The Only ad they place is a very small banner ad at the top of the page saying that the webpage is provided by them.

It is fairly easy to use, they have different templates to start you off and you can upload files and pictures from your computer. You could also upload a webpage you designed from a different source (from your home computer).

They have WYSIWYG and HTML editors, which makes it easy to adjust the look of your page.

It may just be enough to get you started.

Good Luck,
Joe

ps. that is not an affiliate link
