This is my first time on this site and any "work at home" forum website. I'm finding all the information very helpful...and overwhelming as well. I have been doing my own research these last few weeks. I'm mostly looking at getting an actual paying work at home job. Most of my information came from the Little White Ebook. I do have a full time corp sales job as well. I just have a lot of extra time on my hands and wont to make extra money. Im not opposed to a job where I may need to kick in a few bucks (as long as no scam) and I'm finding this site useful for that. My questions to "anyone" is: I noticed a lot of people stating they are adding certain jobs to thier "portfolio". I know what having a portfolio means but in terms to work at home jobs does this mean you have multiple jobs? Terminology: What is downlines and ezines mean? Most important, for someone in my shoes who can take a bit of time and is willing to put in some effort what are some truly honest ways to generate income using the internet. I'm hearing so much about "internet marketing" I think "affiliate" programs is used often. Where can I start......any help is truly appreciated. Thanks and happy new year!!!

You say you are willing to kick in a few bucks so long as it is not a scam. Please do not pay anyone anything for a work at home job.You should never have to pay for a job whether it be online or offline. If you are looking to make a small investment in yourself and you have 10 to 15 hours a week you should be able to find a home based business to work at and make some extra money. The travel business that I am working with requires a small investment as well as a small monthly fee like any business. The monthly fee is a tax write off as are all business expenses.Just having a home based business has huge tax advantages.Check out my link for more details and pm me if you have any questions. If this is not for you I wish you all the best in your search.

Welcome to the fourm BTK,
Internet Marketing can be very complex, but it's also a great and unique way to make money on the internet. There is definitely a learning curve. I could go on and on about the many diverse ways of creating multiple streams of income with internet marketing. One of the most popular is to be an affiliate for companies that sell products or that offer services.
For example, let's say that you have a passion for movies, and that you find it very easy to write "great content" (emphases added) on movies that you watch. Well you could create your own blog or website for reviewing movies, and/or reviewing the actors in them. Now what you can do is become an affiliate for let's say Netflix dot com, and refer people to them through your website or blog. You can even write a review for Netflix and post it to your website/blog. Now you need to get traffic, and more specifically targeted traffic.
Now getting targeted traffic is definitely an art that you have to master. Here are some of the most popular ways, free and paid classifieds, blog directories, forum posting, article submission, joint ventures, your email list, SEO, social bookmarking, PPC, and much more. The trick is to do some research and then brainstorm, and if something didn't work go back to the drawing board and try, try again.
Well I hope this has helped you in some way or another. Just remember that if you are motivated and most importantly dedicated to success then you can accomplish anything.
P.S. The key is to generate many multiple streams of income from your one website/blog.

If you are starting off with making money online, try your best to refrain yourself from joining any sites that requires a fee.
At least not in the begining.
You won't get scammed if you don't pay anybody anything right ?
Do your homework well before you decide to start off with anything.
Good Luck on your search & happy new year

Hey BTK.
Along with what everybody else has suggested, I'd like to add that the best thing you can do is read a lot of posts here or on similar forums. Get a basic idea of what kind of money program works with your personality.
The options are wide open in cyberspace. Just remember - whenever you pull out your credit card, what you're attempting to do is trade money for time. This can work - you can outsource website work, you can buy ebooks in the area you are interested in.
The bottom line is: Aside from ponzi-type schemes, there are really very few scams. Don't get me wrong, there are really poor products, but even the poor products attempt to give a legitimate way to make money. They just do a poor job
When you have an idea what direction you want to move in, ask around the forums for an infoproduct that would help you get started. You can do it alone, but then you're trading time for money in the other direction. If you have absolutely no budget and tons of free time, there's almost no information you can't find free somewhere. If your time is limited and you have some money you can budget to research, a good infoproduct can save you months when it comes to getting up and running. Again, you just need to make sure you're getting a good product.

BTK, Are you still following this thread?
If so, I thought I'd add a bit to the above answers.
Affiliate marketing is when you promote products and services for other people and then receive a commission when sales are made.
Downline is referring to network marketing. You sign people up under you in a NM system and generate income from your own work as well as theirs. Your downline is the people signed up under you.
Ezines are online newsletters. They are generally used to provide additional information and then offer more products that will hopefully produce more sales. Most people use their ezines as a way of getting email addresses to build their "list." Their list can then be considered "leads" for future marketing opportunities.
As you have discovered, there are many different ways of generating income online. None of them are particularly "easy" contrary to everyone's hopes and dreams. They are definitely work, but can be quite enjoyable if you choose options that you really like or can get enthusiastic about.
I'll send you a private message with a link to a free Affiliate Course if you are interested in further reading on the subject. It is very informative and can knowledge can be applied to many areas of online marketing.
I hope you will be helped by landing in this forum. All the best.

Also, at some point you will have to know something about websites and HTML. Life will be so difficult for you if you don't know these things, trust me. A lot of people are scared of these things, but they really are not hard to learn.
Just google it, there are tons of free websites teaching you these things.
