Can someone provide an often-searched keyword list or point me to where I can get it?

I agree that you should try the Yahoo keywords tool. I find it extremely useful when I'm trying to compile a list of keywords for a given niche.

surferket,

I think you are asking for the list of most popular search terms. Is that correct? If so, I believe Google provides that info. Let me see if I can locate it quickly for you.

Hmm. Okay, there seem to be a couple of options, but they don't seem to be completely up to date. At least they will give you some ideas of where to find that info.

That one seems to be more current

Hope that helps you.

Keywords which have high demand and low supply are evidently profitable. To find out what they are, you need software; if you set about it manually, you'll go mad. Free tools are not useful, and that includes wordtracker and overture.

There are many sophisticated software tools that generate such key phrases with the click of a button, but are way too expensive. But they're very, very valuable, especially a software like keyword elite, which is the MOST popular of them all.

But like I said, it's expensive, keyword elite costs $176! If you want to get these and other products for free, check out my sig.

Nice one HappyWife :) I love searchengineguide and the area of the site you mentioned.

Keyword Elite is great though most won't fork out the required cash. If you don't mind paying for a less expensive, semi-affordable keyword analyzer, Adword Analyzer is $77.

I've never actually used either of those I listed for my own personal research. I just looked them up for surferket.

I personally use the brainstorming tools in SBI, which incorporate wordtracker and other mysterious unknown technology. It seems to work fabulously.

I don't know which of all the possible "tools" for keyword research is the "most accurate," but what I am using works wonders and doesn't cost me anything extra, so I'm in the cream.

I suppose if I didn't have SBI behind me, I would definitely have to invest in Analyzer or Elite, because I have definitely learned the importance of keyword research.

I've used most of those tools but I agree with HappyWife that if you have an SBI license, the Brainstorm software (that comes free with SBI, by the way) is by far the most accurate.

I've even built one web page about Topic A on one of my websites which was all about Topic Z and that one page still moved up onto the first page of Google, Yahoo, and MSN for my primary keyword. (Ideally, you want the website to have a coherent theme using related keywords on each page.)

I don't know how Dr. Evoy and his team do it--I agree it seems magical--but I do know that it works.

This is one of the reasons I have four SBI licenses. Even though I think Keyword Elite is a very good program, why pay $176 for it when you receive Brainstorm free as part of your $399 annual SBI license?

Anyway, I've rambled on about SBI enough. One point that might be worth reiterating is that knowing the most commonly searched keywords is not a good way to decide how to optimize a web page or website.

For example, the keyword home business is searched a lot--it has high demand. However, it also has high supply, i.e., there are tens of thousands of web sites with home business as their primary keyword.

Thus, as a previous poster pointed out, it's the demand/supply ratio that matters. And how you calculate both the numerator and denominator of that ratio is crucial.

All the Best,

Mark
