Have you ever tried bidding on freelance projects on sites like guru.com/elance.com?
We already have had a discussion on "Starting a webdesign business" at:

You might find the information useful.

Hi PhantoM,
Have you considered building templates and selling them online?
I currently work full time as an affiliate marketer but don't have any sense of what looks nice and always purchase templates for my affiliate sites.
This is a very competitive market but with some determination anything is possible :)

Hi PhantoM,
What you could try doing is with your hosting company shopping cart:
- Add each of your templates to the shopping cart
- Use paypal to receive payments
This would be a cheap option for you. I sell an e-product and use 1shoppingcart.com but this might be too expensive for someone who desparately needs cash.
I like 1shoppingcart.com because it manages everything for me - newsletter, shopping cart, and affiliate program (where I pay a commission for referred sales from others)
Once you have your products uploaded to your shopping cart (this can be a time consuming process) you might want to consider bidding at Google or Yahoo for related terms to drive traffic immediately. This can be expensive but if you bid low on many keywords you might be able to get some traffic and sales.
You can also try to rank in the search engines for their free listings - this doesn't cost you anything but it will take time and effort.
Consider also approaching "brick and mortar" stores in your area that might not have web sites and offer to build a site for them.
Try approaching small business - check to see if they have a web presence and if they don't - go visit them and tell them they are missing out by not having a website...
Another option for earning some money online is through affiliate marketing which is my main business. I get paid to promote other people's products - I drive traffic to advertisers sites and get paid a commission on the sales - They do all the work of stocking and shipping the products.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

Phantom,
There are a lot of free resources out there that help you get started. And, there are plenty of experts on this forum that can point you in the right direction. My only caution would be to not spend too much money too quickly as you search for your business venture - just too much free stuff available. Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can assist you with.

Try some of these options and see what you like, you may find something that fits...

I would try to work through Guru.com or Elance.com
I've used those services to get work done on my websites and it has been a great service in my opinion. You never know when you will get noticed by someone who is planning a BIG project and explode your personal website design business.
