Hi all. I'm a 52 yr old granny who hasn't been in the outside workforce for almost 5 years now, and I'm tired of not having a lot of extra money to spend. I know that there are a lot of scams out there as far as work at home stuff, and I like to research things on the internet, so I found this forum. I tried starting my own business a few years ago (I sew throw pillows) but family matters got in the way. I might try it again soon. My hub and I have come to the conclusion that our purpose in life is to forever help our children out in their times of need and let's face it, you need extra money for that. My oldest daughter just tried the Google ads thing, as she's 7 mths pregnant and has a 5 yr old and a 1 yr old at home. Unfortunately, she was paying out much more than she was making, so it's a dead issue now. I want to find something so that I can help make my hub and myself more comfortable in our older years, help out our kids and most of all, buy things for my grandchildren. It's a tall order, I know, but I'm confident that if I pay close attention to the posts in this forum, I'll be able to find a few work at home jobs to help me fulfill this wish.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thx, and I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Have you considered selling your pillow cases to consigners. They sell it for you and charge a commission on the sale price?

Yes, pcwork. I was headed towards doing that a few years ago, but family matters got in the way. Now that things have settled somewhat, I can get back to all the research, legal stuff and actual sewing that I was doing before. I'm beginning to give serious consideration to building a website for my work. Wish me luck!

Welcome to this forum jo5jo4 I'm sure you willget many helpfulhints and ideas. If you are into cafepress at all, then you might want to have a look at their site. You can create your own stuff (good for crafty people) and then commission it to others to sell. I'm not involved with them, but thought you might be interested.

If you want to buils a website for free, try godaddy.com. If you buy a domain name for around $9/year (you can target the name to your pillow craft) you will get a 5 page website for free including the hosting, so no more to pay. The only draw back would be that it is advertising supported, but all in all it actually doesn't look too bad.
It will help you to learn the ropes for next to no cost and once you become more confident, you can simply upgrade.

Hey. Welcome to the forum. I've only been here for a few days myself. But it's a great place to read honest feedback.
My business is revolved around travel. If you like to travel and/or want to take your family on cheap cheap vacations this may be something you find interested and or passionate about. Also, if you're looking for a home business, medical should also be something to think about.
I wrote in the introductions a few days ago that i'm just an 18 year old who started my business because I really don't want to live my life around a job that could care less about me. But just a heads up, my business isn't really the kind of business that's like an extra hundred here and there... we actually only deal in thousand increments. I just think even if you're thinking of working in your home space, it should be something that you still have a passion for. Because that's the soul of working from home.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Building your own site is a very good idea. You can start using a free hosting in the beginning but it is always better to have your own site if you are serious about online business. You can also get an adsense account for free and display the ads on your site. Join some good affiliate programs and promote them. Get links from related site. Best of luck.

Hi JoAnn,
Welcome to the forum My advice would always be to pursue a profession that you love doing. Money will follow. If you are good at and love sewing throw pillows, try to work around a plan to start the business again. If you have a spare room in your home, you can also consider hiring people to sew pillows. That way, there won't be much work load as you only will have to supervise the operations. You may also consider teaching sewing. The pleasure that accompanies teaching and sharing what you know is to be only experienced and cannot be descirbed. Or you may also start a website offering sewing tips.

Hi JoAnn,
I too am new to the forum, and I am having a hard time getting any work done as I am reading all these posts.
I too, am a nana of 7 grandchildren. I worked in a group home with mentally and physically challenged adults. I was injured on the job a year and a half ago. I found a business online that I am having a lot of fun with. It is hard changing job careers later in life. Due to it being an accident at work, the disability insurance company has to retrain you, so I am starting Oct. 2 taking Microsoft Word and Excell. They do not consider a home based business as a viable job, which is really too bad. I know there are lots of scams out there because I got involved with one, so just make sure that you do a lot of research first. It means so much to do something you really enjoy. May the Lord help you find something you are happy with.

Well depending on how large of a supply you can put together will show rather or not you will want to hire others to sew those pillows. I think if you look around at consignment shops you could get some good sales that way. I would also look at selling via craigslist, E-Bay, and flea markets. There are several online merchants that will set you up with your own online store with the option to add your own product lines. One such is freestoreclub to which I am a member. They also supply great teaching articles for your sales. Well I hope at least 2 of these ideas help you out and anyone else who makes and sells thier own products.
