Wow you guys...what a great resource! I'm researching HEAVILY before entering into any work at home opps, and I've learned so much already from everyone's comments. Luckily, I found this forum as I started googling and researching after receiving an email (which turned out to be a scam) BEFORE I was duped into spending my money. I must say, I was really tempted! (those copy writers are very convincing!) But, thanks to all of the comments posted here, I've had many questions answered and now feel I'm on the road to locating legitmate work at home opps. I've found some great resources through comments here, and have added them to my links. Thank you all as I embark on earning money from home. Wish me luck! >^,,^<

Wise advice. No one pays to get a job unless you are paying a headhunter/employment agency to specifically search for you. You should NEVER be asked to pay anything for a work at home job including your own postage etc to send home crafted items back to them. Another thing to look for is a complete description of duties for you and expectations from the employer. Always clarify payment terms, dates and method. All too frequently people perform the duties at home and never see any money for their efforts. If you can check the local Chamber of Commerce, references or BBB, it will also validate their business.

I believe that offers for jobs should be free, but lets face it, if you want really good training material it is probably correct to assume that most of the time the "FREE" offers are without substance and lack a lot of the detail that a "newbie" definitely needs.
I myself have just started learning the "nitty gritty" of Marketing and none of the so called "free" material out there was worth while.
Having said that, yes, I do agree, stay clear of "job offers" wanting you to put down money up-front or charge a subscription fee.

I mostly agree with the fact that many work at home programmes are scams... especially those promising quick overnight riches. From experience though, there are always very few ones that affords opportunity to hard workers. I think it is important in life not to think everything is a scam and still leave some room for optimism. I am a prove that some online home business works(although they are very few)
1 thing I tend to look at in any investment opportunity is to see if it makes realistic sense. Does it really make sense that I can make a living by reading emails or processing rebates... chances are quite slim. The most important thing is to critically evaluate and to understand what the program is trying to teach you.
If it makes REALISTIC sense, not just sense I am sure that there is potential for excellence.

I also think that too often people (myself included) do not give the programs we buy or invest in, a REAL chance. If it were as easy to make the kinds of money that is claimed in the ads then surely people would be resigning from they their jobs by the millions.
Training is key, and until you equip yourself with the knowledge and skills a REAL marketer has armed himself with, you will find it too difficult to commit to a program.
Knowledge IS Light.
Cheers for now and good-luck to all of you.

I agree with robinku, I think too many people actually expect to become successful with little to no work. Thats one of the things I try to teach people on my site. I think many of the programs offered can be successful but people have to really treat it like a business. Afterall you only get out of a business what you put in to it.

Having another source of income to fund advertisement is also very important for those just getting started. Set up a good business plan that allows for a steady advertising budget and start building a foundation for the future.

I also agree with robinku, we need to be persistent and methodical when starting a new business venture. Things almost never work the first time and it's important to experiment until you are successful. Websites that promise easy overnight riches are simply taking advantage of one of our biggest human emotional triggers, greed. There are many marketers that use this trigger to make sales but I think this is a dangerous way to go.
The big flaw in using greed in marketing to generate sales is that unless the product really delivers, (most don't) there will be no repeat sales or buyer/seller relationship formed. This is most commonly due to buyers remorse when the buyer realizes the product we paid for is not worth the money paid.
Relationships and repeat sales are extremely important in maintaining a stable and long standing marketing business.
Cheers

To be successful you need the following: 1. Time management 2. Optimism 3. A goal 4. knowledge and skill obviously- I think some people buy a program and then just assume that the money will start to roll in. No, you need to really learn the material and apply it properly!! 5. don't give up 6. don't be afraid to take a risk 7. don't be afraid to fail - keep trying until something works for you 8. Patience

Hi Emily,
It is scary, but if you are considering trying something, ask around. Get a few opinions from people who have tried what you are contemplating. No, you may not always get truthful answers, but you will get different perspectives and maybe even sound warnings.
You can always do what I did, too, and pray! It does help.
I'll have to keep your site in mind for resources and ideas for teaching Sunday School.
All the best, Angie

Number 8 on the list is probably the most difficult for most people. They give up way too soon. They expect too much out of their program. I know because I have been there too. It definately takes a lot of patience.

Wow, this is a terrific post. Many great ideas and resources. After being scammed, I read the ebook "Stop being a victim" and that helped me a lot. I think we're all attracted by the "easy money idea" but many of us fail to recognise scams befor giving our money to strangers.

so is there a real work from home thing through the internet? i recently get involved with one, its actually through there that I learned about this forum. I am just really looking for an extra source of income. and yes i paid something to get it and its no refund since its an online membership kind o f thing and their step to step guide to success is also online so there is no refund. after reading through their tutorial steps i found out that there's a lot more to do. and that i also need to pay for advertising it. It's not even a day yet after i purchased or singed up for the thing the time i sent this message so i don't know what will happen yet. but like my question, is there a real thing like this email processor job?

I check on contact information. If i can get a hold of them well and good! Especially when they have this return policy. There's quite a few I found wherein you could. I never thought they exist.

I think anyone promise you quick and easy money is a scam. Patience and hardwork is the only way to make money for almost everything.

it is really best to research about the site or job first before considering to start working with them as scams are really rampant now a days.

Has anyone heard of the cash leveraging system? I signed up for one time gifting of $25 just to see what will happen. They say you only need to get 10 people to join using your link and then its on auto pilot. Let me know if you are doing this and how good your doing at this. thanks

I would advice people on this forum not to join kiyoe.com. Those people only make false promises and do not give any work. Once u pay the registration fees, then they switch off their cells and will not be accessible to any one at any time.

I've just heard that there is going to be an investigation here in Australia in relation to some home based business which I think is a long time overdue, Many of the business which I think will be investigated are those which are on the borderline of being a scam but the only thing that is not making them being that way is that they are offering a product even though it's not widely wanted by the consumer.

A good and legit money making opportunity does require a lot of patience and skill. I'm new to the marketing arena, just about a week now, and I've learned so much already however I know there's much, much, much more to be learned to earn the success that these opportunities advertise.
The program I am in is legit, it's actually your own business you're buying into, so there is an upfront cost- as with any business you start-but one sale and you're in profit mode. Of course there is advertising involved that can be an extra cost. However, there are plenty of free ways to advertise as well.
Utilize all your options (free and paid) for advertising and marketing and you will see lasting results. Be persistent too, don't give up...anything worth having is worth your time and effort.

I totally agree with alot of the posts on here. Like a few have said if it says its a 'get rich quick' scheme or that you can make loads of money by not doing a lot then run a mile! I fell into these traps a couple of times until i eventually found something that wasn't a scam but these are very few and fair between unfortunately, which is a shame.
Just do your research into it first because if there are alot of people saying its a scam it probably is!

All of you have some very good input and I agree with most of it. I am fairly new to having a home business working with affiliate marketing, writing articles and so forth. I have always been a skeptic about these type of programs. I am familiar with affiliate marketing but unfamiliar with many other types of home businesses. Does anybody find that a certain program works better than another? I have found that writing articles and promoting other products works for me but would never have known this if I didn't try one after another until I found a few that worked well. Most of the programs that are advertised do say some obscure things (i.e. make a $1,000/day with only a few hours worth of work), when in reality it takes a long time to buld into that which is true with any business you are going to choose to run. Someone said earlier in this post that you have to pay for the knowledge which is fine with me because know I realize how much of their time and energy was spent on developing a program or a website to guide us through "how to make money" from your couch. This is all good stuff and I appreciate the forum. It lets us know that others are out there trying to better themselves in a tough economy by making a few extra bucks.

If you can't call the creator(s) of the business, or their assistants, and have your questions answered before you sign up, if your expected to dive head first into a potentially shallow pool without being able to test the depth of their knowledge/reputation, than I wouldn't bother with it.
There are too many people making thousands of dollars each day with a simple system that they are willing to teach you (not have you work within, as a link) for the cost of your overhead just to get a good testimonial on their site (the more money you make the better this works for them), to merit messing around with unproven gimmicks offering similar or smaller returns on your investment

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and I'm blown away. Kudos to Vishal for creating such a wonderful resource for at-homers.
My full time vocation is developing my artist portfolio, and because that's my passion I've scoured the internet and fallen prey to quite a few 'too good to be trues' (I've come to view them as bumps in the road less traveled. lol) But I was determined to find a way to benefit from this vast resource right at my fingertips in an earnest effort to enjoy more time behind the canvas. It's inspiring to come across other successful entrepreuners that have taken the chance on themselves too!
This post has pretty much echoed my experience in finding the right work at home opportunity. One thing is for sure though. Once you find the right opportunity, doing the work becomes an exciting challenge. You uncross your fingers, and put them to work! I'm challenging my mind every single day to take all the information I possibly can in. I look at it as an investment in myself, and all the hard work isn't so hard.
Anyway, looking forward to offering any advice or resources I can to all you fellow work-at-homers out there. This is a prickly pursuit, and we could all use all the help and support we can get!

hi all.
i've seen and applied for loads of working from home scams - but not anymore. i wised up after two years, just not getting anywhere. something i'd like to add though is this. some say that if a sales page leaves a landline phone number this is proof of legitimacy. Not so. i don't i'm allowed to mention this scammer but he has his phone number on his page and he anwers queries, yet he scammed me out of 70 and he is actually on a scammer site noted as such. so doube, triple beware of them folks.......
