Here are some tips to keep your eyes healthy when working on computer:
1) Walk away from your computer every 20-30 minutes and look at distant objects for 5-10 minutes. This is simplest solution but also the toughest part as most lose track of how long they have been staring at the computer screen and it becomes next to impossible to leave your PC in the middle of an important activity.
2) Blink regularly (20-30 times every 15 minutes) to prevent dryness of eyes.

This kind of advice worked for me.
Looking into the distance alot after work and driving home cured my problem of one eye getting out of focus.
I'm not sure if LCD monitors rather than CRT are better either which may be another factor to consider.

Age can also have something to do with vision problems... I find that more and more of late, it's difficult for my eyes to adjust to different distances as fast as they used to. Working at the computer all day doesn't help either. Switching your glance from monitor to whatever printed matter you're reading or using can be an exercise in frustration!
Thanks for the tips on eye exercises - I shall start immediately!

Perhaps you can adjust the color on your monitor - or adjust the brightness? I've also heard of something that you can actually put over your computer screen to help your eyes - I just don't remember what it is called...

They are called anti-glare filters/screens. If it's a CRT monitor, then you should definitely go fo one.
There is one more neglected aspect that is very critical while working on your pc - lighting. Lights should generally be placed to your left and should be brighter than your pc montior.
Here's an article I came across that has some good tips on preventing eye strain:
Eyestrain and your computer screen: Tips for getting relief - MayoClinic.com

Hey Vishal,
Thanks for the link to the article. I always remember my mother telling me not to block my light when I was reading or working at a desk, and so your comment made me smile.
Doing eye exercise might also help, but be warned, it might make you dizzy at first. Practice strengthening your eye muscles by looking in each direction; up, down, left, right, for about 10 to 15 seconds.
Also, try just sitting back in your chair and closing your eyes for several minutes each hour throughout your day.
And if you find yourself starting to squint to read small print, get a pair of reading glasses at your local drug store. Don't strain your eyes any more than necessary.
Now I'm going to go out and find an anti-glare filter...

You might want to try the eye doctor. I went to the eye doctor and got some Rx glasses that are just for the computer.

I have always found that putting a cold flannel on my eyes every few hours helps keep them feeling good.
Hope that helps.

I think the most important factor is probably proper lighting. To many people sit at the computer for far to long under the wrong light conditions, and this causes eye strain.
