Hello All,
First off let me introduce myself. My name is Kent and I am interested in working from Home. I am in a situation where I am not happy at my job and I really want to be my own boss. I am trying to find the best Work at Home opportunities available. I found this forum and decided Hey this is a good start. So please give me some feedback. Where should I start? I am terrified of all of the scams out there Are there any legitimate work at home businesses out there? Your assistance is very much appreciated and I look forward to everyone's responses. Thanks

Hi, Kent. I know what you're talking about. I left my job a couple years ago because I wasn't happy in it and wanted to be my own boss.
There's definitely a lot of choices, but of all the work at home opportunities, affiliate marketing I found to be my favorite. You promote other people's products online and receive a commission if someone buys that product via your affiliate link.
This is why people have made a lot of money.
You're right to be scared of the scams. I was scammed for a whole year and lost thousands of dollars before I really found my footing with the right coach to teach me what to do.
A lot of the programs sell "secrets" to making money, but there is nothing secret about making money online nor is it instant.
It takes a little training, a little investment and some work. After a few months, if you do your business right, you'll start to see results and build up.
So learn the skills first, then worry about making the money. Don't just chase after the money first because that will send you running in twelve hundred directions looking for the perfect technique when all techniques (that are legal and meet Google's rules) work just fine.
No matter how enticing the sales page, be very skeptical when something says you can make $45,000 in two weeks. The only way you get to that point is if you've been established for many years already but not when you're first starting out. It takes patience to build up your business. Just keep at it and persist.
Good luck.

Hi Kent. There are an almost infinite number of businesses you could start. You're right to be concerned about scams - there are many out there! You don't need to buy someone else's business idea to be successful, but if you're inexperienced sometimes being able to follow someone else's business model is helpful.
Before searching for an opportunity I would suggest you take time to think about what you feel passionate about. You will spend a significant amount of time working on your business, if you choose something that excites you it will feel less like work.
Then consider what you want to offer: products, services, information? If you're not into "selling" you can teach.
I agree with gowriter. Affiliate marketing is a good place to start. You can start with little to no cost, and therefore no risk. Commission Junction (CJ.com) offers a decent selection of affiliate programs at no cost. You could set up a website on your topic of choice and promote your affiliate products through the site.
The best way to learn about web design, SEO and ways to promote your business is through forums like these. Network with other business owners and ask lots of questions!

Welcome Kent!
Just don't get overwhelmed with it all.... there are quite a variety of work at home things represented on here as there is a variety of things that one can do from home...
I have tried a bunch of them myself, and mostly do affiliate marketing now after doing mlm stuff for awhile.

Finding "the best" WAH biz opp for you could actually take some trial and error. You can't be scared to succeed for fear of failure. If there was one biz that fit everyone, we would all be in it. Of course if you can get something going for free and then make money that helps, but that's not always the best way either. Just Do IT as the saying goes, and try and find something that has minimal risk compared to reward. Also learn marketing.

Hello Kent, you have been given some great advice already. I would say for you to put up your wallet and do just what you're doing by asking questions around the Internet. I wouldn't quit my job! However, I would treat the Internet experience as a part time job for now consistently. READ READ READ...RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. I hope that you become what you are seeking.

Hello All,
Thank You so much for the posts. From your replies I am assuming that Affiliate marketing is the best way to make money from Home. I know that I will not make money overnight. I am a very patient person, but I wanted to get some advice before I jump into anything. I have no plans to quit my job as of now as I want to establish the business that I choose. Can you guys tell me more about affiliate marketing. I was going to google it, but maybe you guys have a good webpage to read regarding affiliate marketing and how it works. As always your opinion and help is much appreciated.

Start reading about affiliate marketing, but don't read too much . Action is key so you need to take steps , build a webpage or blog , get your domain, or any good free website . You should know what you selling, don't sell things which you don't even know about it. Your product should be powerful and not an scam.

I was in your shoes 6 months ago and affiliate marketing I discovered was what worked for me. I now do it full time. I think mountain mom has started a thread here somewhere about affiliate marketing. This forum is an excellent resource to get your questions answered. There is a search box here, just type in affiliate marketing and ta da, all the posts about it will apear and you can start your research there.
What do you like and have knowledge about. Chances are good that whatever it is, there is a way to incorperate it into affiliate marketing.

Hi Kent,
The best place to start is the free 30 Day Challenge. It'll give you an introductory overview of online marketing without costing you anything.
Here is the link:
www.thirtydaychallenge.com
In addition to that, keep reading current and past posts from this forum and read online marketing or make money online blogs. That's more free info for you.
Spend a few months doing this before you go after the gold. Once you go after the gold, focus on providing value to your readership rather than focusing on the gold.
You are right, affiliate marketing should be your main focus so pay special attention to that while taking the free 30 Day Challenge.
Good writing and driving targeted traffic two additional components that you should pay attention to.
Good luck and welcome to the forum,
~Newbie Shield~
PS. What are you doing for income right now?

Newbie Shield: Once you go after the gold, focus on providing value to your readership rather than focusing on the gold. So true - This piece of advice is worth much gold.

Hi Kent
Obviously with the current economic climate at your end & in the UK, there is an explosion of people wanting to try & make a living from home & the top marketing folk no this, so be wary of the promise of instant money & $30k a month Clickbank screenshots (if only it were that easy we could all retire next year). Fortunately there are genuine folk out there & they want to help one and other grow their business & don't try to trick you into parting with another uneccessary add on ! This is a great business to be in & I always aim to learn something new every day & always look for new challenges & avenues to explore & I try & sort out what works & what does'nt ASAP & also use methods which best suit my personality.

I have been looking at and thinking about online business for the better part of a year now and generally speaking failing miserably. My failure, not keeping at it consistently. I am attempting to change that, but it is rather hard when you can't get excited about what you are doing.
I will say this though, that affiliate marketing is probably the way to go, its what every single one of those online get rich systems tries to teach you how to do. Affiliate marketing is also what 90% of the people these forums are trying to do, myself included.
That is what makes affiliate marketing tricky, the fact that everyone is trying to do the same thing. So what you have to do is track down a niche market. Something you can get excited about that not a lot of other people are doing. It is easier said then done, but I am learning and so can you. The course I have been following, at my own much to slow pace is My Online Income System. It will walk you through the basics and if your looking to try affiliate marketing is as good a place as any to start.
I would also say look into blogging. From what I have heard and read, that is where the real money making power lies, at least at this particular moment.

Hi Kent, I think the most important things to remember are finding something that you will enjoy doing this is important as it makes working on the project less time consuming and less like a chore. I think the best thing for me was joining an affiliate program and taking paid surveys. Both have different opportunities and I enjoy the fact that they are slightly different. Affiliate programs are a good idea as you can promote something that you are already interested in making it easier to use your current knowledge.
What are you interested in? could you use this skill/knowledge for an affiliate program? I think you will find it easy to find something that you can easily do for now like paid surveys and then work on a larger project like an affiliate program.

Kent,
If you want to pursue affiliate marketing you can google, bummarketing and get info on how to receive a f.r.e.e. e-book about doing affiliate marketing using f.r.e.e. methods.
You said you are patient and that is what you will need to do affiliate marketing. One word of advice, Don't quit!.
It is easy to get discouraged but just keep on plugging away and you will see some success.
