Hello everyone. I am a newbie affilate marketer promoting a clickbank product using article marketing. I've had well over 200 clicks through to the product but no sales yet. Does anyone have any advice as to when to move on to another product? Thanks for your input.

how long that you have been promote that product? i would suggest you to promote the product for 1 month. if you not making any sale you can move to another product

Thanks John. I appreciate your advice. It's hard for someone new to affiliate marketing to determine what the trends are. I've been promoting this product for a little over a month.

If you truly believe in the product, don't give-up that easy on it. Could be the marketing aspect that is not working and not the product.

Hi sunflower - you have gotten great advice here - don't give up too easily.
Congrats on the click throughs! You are doing something right as many people struggle for more than a month just to get some traffic so they can start getting click throughs...
Are you directing your article readers to a blog or a url straight to the CB product?
If you have a blog or Squidoo lens or something similar, I would try a variety of CB products in the same niche if there are some more - and if you are using a url... try a different product as well.
That is what is so nice about article marketing with blogs etc, once you have the traffic, you can change the links without losing momentum... test, test, test....

Yeah mountainmom5, you and i have discussed this already. Got the idea but i still need to do it myself.
So i was thinking along these lines.
You start a squidoo lens about mmmm say for example Koi Fish (hahahahah pardon the pun ..... squidoo lens / koi fish .... erm ok
Within the squidoo lense you then find clickbank products that promote the following; breeders of koi fish / koi fish food products / plants for koi fish ponds / filters for koi fish ponds. (etc)
That would give you 4 to 5 or more clickbank products promoted at one go.
Now does this sound good or what? Ok maybe i should go put that into practice now

mountainmom5 - I was originally directing traffic both to my squidoo lens and directly to the product landing page via a url. Now to my blog as well for some articles. I was thinking that since the product is not selling maybe I should just direct all future traffic to my blog. Any thoughts?
Also, is it a good idea/bad idea to promote more that one clickbank product in the same niche on your blog?

In addition to the number of click-throughs, you need to consider the timeframe in which they occurred. There's a significant difference between 200 click-throughs a day compared to 200 a week, for example.
If you are getting 200 clicks a day, it suggests to me that your promotions are picking up steam, but the website copy might be a bit weak at converting. Whereas, if it's taking a week to get 200 clicks to the product page, your promotional strategy may be in need of a boost.
In either event, I would be inclined to explore several alternative options to get conversions before entertaining thoughts of abandoning the product.

You got the idea - here is a tip for you though... you will get more traffic to your lens if you build the WHOLE LENS around one single long tailed keyword, as long as it is a phrase that people are actually searching for...
For instance, you would want one lens on breeders of koi fish - another on koi fish food products, etc,etc, and then link them all together using the Featured Lens module...
You may not find Clickbank products for something in that line except maybe some information on HOW to raise them, etc, but at Commission Junction and Shareasale.com there is an ocean of stuff to promote.
And ZiggyZoo, you need to absolutely go put it into practice now....or need we get after you with a wet noodle?

I'm still learning a great deal and, in addition, I think the product desirability may be waning.
One thing that baffles me is that just one article that I wrote had about 1/3 of my total click throughs to the product in one day. But still no sales. What does that indicate?
I appreciate all of the input. I have a few more ideas to maybe come in sideways. It certainly is an exciting learning experience. Thanks everyone.

Hi sunflower,
Good to hear that you're tracking results.
Strictly speaking - and without any other [needed] information - you'll want a minimum of .5% or 1 out of every 200 to be a conversion. This is a very general estimation. There are many factors to consider. This simply partly indicates that your copy is "adequate" but says little more.
Another important thing to consider is how much you are spending vs. income. Additionally, the cost of the product and the quality of the sales page are to be taken into consideration.
For example, if your product is $500, you spend $1 per click, and you get one sale on every 200 clicks (.5%), then you are making $300 every 200 clicks. That's not the greatest click-through rate but the profit is well worth it. This is a PPC example though you may not be using PPC.
On the other hand, it depends upon a lot of factors such as your authority, site usability, your writing ability, number of loyal readers, and even if you're just using PPC but no site of your own.
So, like with anything else in online marketing, you have to consider quite a few things and experiment until you see first-hand what actually works.
It may be that you just need to change your headline around a bit or something similar. Hard to say without being intimately familiar with your site and your marketing techniques.
So consider these things and take it from there.

PS. The fact the you have so many click-throughs probably indicates that your writing and presentation is good. That said, I would say that the sales page and/or price of the product is suspect; the culprit.

When I first started studying marketing, I heard repeatedly that it takes 90 days of consistent effort to actually realize results that can be assessed. It takes a while and a lot of clickthroughs to get to that first sale, but if you don't see any results with 90 days of consistent effort, its time to move on.
I would also suggest that you do some other forms of free marketing while you are using articles as well. Key points in the article can be modified into credit based safelist and classified ads. Your article url as a signature in forum posts can help boost your traffic as well. It takes many forms of traffic generation to get to those right people, make sure you take advantage of as many as you can.

Back in the days i did a bit of split testing on some clickbank products and noticed that the direct links to advertisers page converted poorly. But the links that led to a page where i compared the product side by side with other similar products converted well.
If you are hard up on cash just use blogger, strip the side elements and put in the code that hides the nav bar.

I use squidoo over and over. I have 2 very similar products on 2 different lens. One I was really new, the other I did a lot of keyword research and made the changes, the later far outperforms the former. So I did some article marketing last week using the keywords and now they both do about the same.
Call to action, do you have a call to action. Information is great, but a call to action makes a difference. I learned that from Newbie Shields and I worked on my call to action and I do get more conversions now.
I do not pay per click, all free stuff and I now have sales consistently every day.

Do you happen to know when the big changes at Squidoo go into effect? I thought it was scheduled for early July. Was it so subtle that I missed it?

The changes have not affected me, I think it depends on what you are marketing. If its viagra or something similiar, then you may need to worry, otherwise I chose to ignore it. You probably did not miss a thing really.
If I am wrong, someone please correct me.
