i am joining the army and my wife will be at home with our child living in rhode island. we are interested in finding a work at home opp for little to no money up front so that she can make approx 200-300 dollars a month, maybe a little more, something to supplement the money i send home. i am overwhelmed by the things i see online, and i do know apout the crapshoots like online surveys, paid to read email, hyips, all that crap, not interested. we want either a self start up business that is proven and effective , or maybe a company that outsources work to people to do at home, i have heard of things lkie putting jewelry boxes together, folding and stuffing envelopes, assembling trinkets, packaging soap, things like this would be ideal, or possibly some home typing or information processing? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I like working with MomsWin. It's Pretty easy. But I don't know what the May promo will be. Right now it's only $9.95 instead of $29 to start. No inventory and all that. Very popular nowaday.. esp for ppl who want to improve their health. All good with the BBB.

I would be careful with "we are interested in finding a work at home opp for little to no money up front so that she can make approx 200-300 dollars a month, maybe a little more, something to supplement the money i send home." You get what you pay for. Anywhere in life if you want to start a business you will have upfront costs. However if you find one that puts the money back into your pocket quickly, you have found a good thing. The 1stepsystem is working very well for me. It is no change getting involved BUT once you qualify you are paid $500/sale which could mean THOUSANDS/month!

Yes, you get what you pay for, but at the same time, I think that many of looking for work-at-home opportunities can't afford large start-up costs - and even with research, your chances of getting scammed are high.
The good thing about this forum is that there are enough people doing different things - whose suggestions help newcomers stay away from dangerous scams and at least have a chance at something legitimate.

Hey jim, you should look into liveops. They are a call center that take orders for infomercials and you can work anytime during the day and night. I personally know someone who does this and there highest check so far was $300 for the month.
There is an application fee, but I can't remember how much. I think it's like $30.
The website is: www.liveops.com

affliate marketing can be a nice way to make money.
the affliate program is through clickbank by selling other people's ebooks.
1. sign up for free account with clickbank
2. find your product that you want pormote- You need to find a market that is searched for a lot and has a little competition
3. pormote your link
affliate can be easy way to make money because you don't have to store or deliver any product but you have to find your niche. there alot of e-books about affliate marketing. the best thing about clickbank products is that it has money back guarantee.

Have you considered cell phone recycling? If yo can set drop boxes up at local grocery stores and collect phones that aren't out-dated, you can send them in for money.
But if you are looking for an extra $300 a month, is it possible to just get a second job? I don't know what your situation is, but I worked part time at a grocery store - about 13.5 hours a week and made an extra $100 a week.
You could try internet marketing - but the problem is you can easily lose money on advertising expenses - but there are also free ways to advertise as well...
I hope this helps!

You also need to make a decision about whether you want to work for yourself or work for someone else. If you work for yourself many of the above situations will fit the bill. Just make sure you are getting plugged into a system with a real, proven product and a duplicatable marketing plan. Also make sure it's something YOU believe in or you will just stop doing it.
If you work for someone else you can Google sites that hire work at home workers. With more outsourcing occuring in America if you have skills like typing or the ability to talk on the phone many businesses will hire you, cover your expenses and pay you a wage too. So, start with your skills, google the web to search for businesses that hire those skills and see what you come up with. I think this will be better than trying to fit yourself into someone elses "box".

LiveOps is a great program. There are several others as well - West at Home is another popular WAH program. With most companies, you're paid by the call instead of by the hour-- some time slots have more activity than others, so choosing the hours you work wisely is important. These companies require a few expenses- the largest of which is a dedicated phoneline. You would have to determine if you could afford that expense of it if you were to experience a month of low calls and little or no income.
Paid Surveys are a great way to earn extra income. There is no cost to participate in them (and you don't need an expensive membership to a directory, either- there are free lists). The only thing you would need is access to the internet and and email address. The great thing about paid surveys is that you can complete them on your own time- you don't have to commit to certain hours of time to work. You have to sign up with many companies to create a good stream of income, but it is easily done.
If your wife likes to write, then she might enjoy article writing. This is something else that requires no start up costs. People are creating new websites every day. Unfortunately, the ability to design a webpage or come up with an idea does not mean a person knows how to write good content. If that is something she's interested in, then she could visit some webdesign forums and freelance forums. There are always posts of people looking for content.
The assembling crafts, stuffing envelopes, etc. are usually scams, unfortunately. I don't know of any legitimate opportunity like that.
Or the home-typing for that matter. I do know that people are hiring secretarial services now more so than they used to in the past. I have a friend who recently started a typing business at home and she had an excellent response from small business who didn't need/couldn't afford a full time or even parttime secretary. She does work for several companies part time and makes more than she was making fulltime at her former job. If your wife is interested in something like that, then she could test the market by placing a few classified ads in the local papers.
If you want your own business, maybe you'd like affiliate marketing. You do have to work at it-- alot, despite what anyone tells you, but the results are worth it. Affiliate memberships at clickbank are free. She could try that while working other things that are sure to pay.
There are so many opportunities out there- hope you guys find something that you enjoy and make money with at the same time! Good luck!

just know that with click bank, in order to know the content of the product, you have to purchase it. I tried it. I didn't like advertising something that I didn't know if it was good, bad or otherwise. E-book businesses are very profitable, once you buy there kits for $49 - $297. Or if you really search you can find some of them for free. I offer free e-books off of my site. I run a data entry processor company. I don't think they are a scam. You pay a fee, in my case $25. You get the training materials, software, and e-books to start your own business tomorrow. You don't have to sell the manual. There are tons of ebook packs in the kit to sell, the ones that are $49 - $297 or more else where. It is data entry. How do you place your ads for any business? Data entry! I am pretty much running a ebook business where i set up others in their own business for a small fee. The kit has free sites in it for everything else. You have no other fees, other than what you want obviously. You can get free website hosting, It comes with website templates so you get a professional looking sitem just upload and custimize. Register for a FREE cyber name, which is the same as a domain name except the ending is .co.nr or something like that instead of .com, .net. But it is free no fees! all the bases are covered including the sites for free advertising and ad posting. Safelist submitters and traffic boosters as well. The ebooks cover every subject imaginable, from internet business, marketing to cooking, and divorce.
The point is that there are TONS of opportunies out there. And most of us have been scammed a time or two. Most envelope stuffing jobs are really name compling, (you advertise, they respond, you send them the material). It is not illegal just not easy. I am currently waiting for a company package to try one. Assembly at home works the problem is finding the companies. They all require a refundable fee for their training materials and supplies. Some give you free supplies after that others reimburse you for your supplies. I know of one that reimburses you for their company supply rate of $15 per unit and you can buy the stuff at wal-mart for about $9 per unit. The thing is finding the companies. I finally gave in a bought a $35 home workers directory to find the companies.
But they pay averages $300 - $500 full time a week. But there are no quotas and she can work at her own pace.

If you have an idea of building a website go for a niche one and try google adsense. You can make a part time income by this.

I too believe that you have to put something in whether it is money or time on the net to work from home. It also kinda depends on how much experience your wife has with working online. Be prepared, finding jobs on the internet that have imediate income are really easy are not real easy to find, despite what they might tell you!!

Jim,
There are many ways to earn money from internet. Here are some of the possibilities (I have tried all of them) :
1. Creating a blog/ website and then use Google Adsense to monetize it. If your wife likes to write, this maybe her chance. Just write whatever she likes (if she likes cooking, I suggest she creating a blog about it). I have 2 websites right now, and I earn $100 - $200/ month from them. The drawback is: this technique needs time. I need 4 months to be on that level.
2. Joining freelancer website such as elance or rentacoder. I know some of them offer free membership. They just charge you 10% transaction fee if you get new project. There are many projects there, such as translator, data entry, etc. I have joined both of them. Elance charges a membership fee (it's expensive for me, $175/ quarter), and they still charge 8.5% transaction fee. So far I know, rentacoder is free.
3. If your wife likes to write but she doesn't know how to develop a blog, I suggest her to submitting an application as a part-tie blogger (you write and you get paid). There are many websites that's looking for part-time blogger now. One of them is weblogs, inc.
(I haven't tried this one).
Well, I hope that helps. I have been working from home for 4 years now, just want to share some experiences (I won't ask you to visit my website since I haven't created any articles related to what I explained above).

I think blogging is probably the easiest and cheapest way to get started. If you can use a keyboard, you can blog. No site fees, no domain registration. Start writing about something you like and see where it takes you.

I own my own dollar shop, it's 24.99 a month, you get a profit for every product ordered and you get 25 dollars profit for everyone who signs up on your site. Im trying it out, just started and have made some progress but no big bucks so far. Hope this helps

Sounds like a pretty neat idea. I'll check it out.
