Ok I just set up a blog at blogger.com and I generally have an idea of what I want to sell and promote, DVDs and such media. My site is called The Movie Loft, I just need some help on what type and how to get started. I signed up for the Amazon associates program as well with clickbank. Should I search google for already existing dvd sales blogs to get an idea? Any help or advice os appreciated. I have tried affiliate marketing before and got no-where. This time I am determind to do what it takes to make some cash. Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason - have you researched keyword stuff at all?
You will want to pick a niche - there are a gazillion dvds and movies to promote and maybe you can get somewhere with using keywords such as inexpensive movies, get movies for less, etc...
But in order to get traffic to your blog from google, you will want a focused niche - for instance you may want a blog with only game stuff, then another one with only gardening stuff.... and here is another HUGE key.... even gaming or gardening is much too broad...
You need to narrow it down to a specific aspect of it - like for instance , let'c pick gardening as I don't know much about gaming, although I have made sales with Clickbanks gaming stuff without knowing anything about it lol... if I DID know something about it especially the WoW stuff, it is a huge niche to be in.... *hint*
Back to gardening - you will want to choose something like vegetable gardening, or herb gardening...etc...
Simply put - a blog is for posting to every chance you get and if you can't write about something then you are really hampered on how much you can do with it.... oh, and you will want to simply post to it for awhile until you start getting traffic before adding a lot of links...
I WISH I knew more about gaming - but I guess I have to leave that for someone else.
Hope that helps.

mountainmom5, Thanks for giving me some advice...I can`t find topic I posted for some weird reason & you reply was deleted. I had to open it up through my email. Any way I know a little about keyword searching from taking the 30 challenge some what. I havent really gotten that far yet because I still need to set up my blog with content in which I need help with. I know how to insert the banners and links for Amazon but just don`t have any content organized or how I should go about starting up. I would really like to venture on to video games since I am a pround PS3 owner. Thanks again.

Cap1107: I would really like to venture on to video games since I am a pround PS3 owner. Thanks again. Cool... pretend that you are writing about your PS3 to one of your loyal gaming friends... you know, in gamese , or whatever they call the language gamers speak...
Start your blog by sharing your experiences with your PS3 - tuck little things in here and there in a sort of crafty way about your favorite stuff, linking to amazon or actually you can also link to some places thru Commission Junction and Shareasale that pay a better commission than Amazon does...
Plus you can tuck in links to ebooks thru Clickbank etc,,,, but the whole point of a blog is for you to be able to write and share about something you love... in your OWN language. Be yourself. People love it.

You can do whatever you want with your blog, although I would just try to focus on a specific niche, rather than try to focus on too many areas at once. Clickbank and Amazon are great starting points, and yes, take a look at what other websites are doing and model your site after theirs. When I say this I don't mean copying, but just doing something similar to what they are doing.

To get some traffic I would suggest joining groups that deal with your subject matter. As you make associates in that group you can create a newsletter that refers them to your blog. In addition give the members that join your newsletter special deals on your products. Then ask for referrals and give them more discounts for referring others.
In this day of internet advertising many of us forget the tried and true method of word of mouth advertising. Im not suggesting stopping your internet advertising but rather tying it into some offline inexpensive advertising methods as well.
Good luck in your endeavors and if you ever need a product to offer for free to get visitors to your site then give me a buzz.

Thank you everyone for your help...I was wondering how I could make or find an online store that I can sell affiliate merch? Is this a good Idea. I noticed amazon has Astore. Never messed with it.

You've received some awesome suggestions in this thread. I would only emphasize that DVD's are a hugely competitive market--you're competing against NetFlix, Walmart, and a zillion other outlets. Therefore, developing a very specific niche is crucial. If you're not a film buff that might be a challenge.
In general, I think it's important to pick a product about which you have some personal interest. It makes it a lot easier to write about it and remain enthusiastic during the slow times.
All the Best,
Mark

I have not started customizing my blog yet because I am still think trying to figure out how I want it. I do think I will write about and sell video games instead because I do have a huge interest in that and drumming. I was planning to create an ebook on how to learn to play the drums. Think it could be fun to write since I have been playing for 12 years plus.

Ohhh, Drumming! Now that sounds interesting.... I am tempted to tell you to forget about everything else and focus on a drumming blog...
Wait a minute.... Out of curiosity I just went to seobook.com and checked out what phrases people are using in that niche.... and believe me, with what I saw there, you will definitely want to pick drums over games... I entered the phrase how to play drums.... yowie, go take a peek for yourself.
Drums wins hands down over games...
I betcha there are even some ebooks on Clickbank to use as well about drums.
If you do not know how to use the keyword tool - it is free to use, just go to seobook.com and register to use it, then click on the little link on the left that says adwords sandbox or something like that.... enter your phrase in the little search box and a whole row of keywords will pop up so you can see actual phrases people are using when googling stuff about drums.
Then you will want to pick several that are fairly high in searches but low in the colored box (your competition)... and start posting to your blog.
Have fun.

Excellent thread!
Mountainmom5 you've given Jason some wonderful advice. To be truthful, I'm tempted to dash off and start a blog just because of how you've presented your explanation.
Too bad my hands are so full. Grin!
If you're determined to blog, Jason, Viola's advice is very helpful. Be sure to make each of your posts targeting one of those specific keyword phrases that she explained to you.
You'll want the exact phrase to be in the headline and the first paragraph, and again near the end of the post. Depending on the length of the post you may even add it once or twice more if it sounds natural.
Using the specific phrase in the right places is VERY important in getting found and growing free traffic.
Blessings, Angie

Thanks for your help and research....Thats what I will do. I found a few drumming ebooks and cds to promote from clickbank. I did use noble samuri for a few weeks as a trial and I liked it a lot. It does alot of research in Keywords. The other day I was thinking about writing movie reviews but I just don't if I would be any good at that. But I won't know till I try right? When I get my blog put together I will post a link. Thanks again.

Hi Cap,
I agree with Mark - if you're going to sell DVDs, pick a small, focused niche. Otherwise the competition will be far too tough.
Everyone and their mother loves and blogs about movies. On top of that, you would be competing with the mega movie stores - as Mark also pointed out.
Before you begin, be sure to understand the fundamentals of online marketing - including keyword research and driving traffic via free methods.
I recommend the 30 Day Challenge. We have just started a thread on our forum here:

Good luck,
