Hey guys,
I checked the keywords for an article I wrote a while ago and its in the top 10 for a quite good niche. YAY!

However, I looked at the title that appears on google i.e. the name of the lense and I thought "yuck". There is no appeal in it. The title is simply "making legitimate money online". What was I thinking??

I was wondering if I edited my lense and made the name more appealing, would my lense be removed from the google top 10 for that niche? If so, would it be hard to get back in? I have heaps of backlinks to this lense, it took me a while to get it where it is right now. Would google have to crawl all the places where the backlinks are again?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi srama,

Yes, it will probably get knocked down - at least for a while and perhaps forever. When you do this, Google attempts to figure out what the lens is "really" about.

You could easily get knocked out of the top 100 or worse.

Think twice before you consider altering a title after it's been indexed by Google. My advice is to leave it and move onto something else - perhaps creating a new lens.

After you've done Squidoo for a while, you won't obsess over any individual lens. I spend a month or less creating a lens and then I leave it (aside from hitting the publish button once in a while - but even with that, I find myself doing it less and less).

I do put a lot of effort into making a lens, but then I let it sit.

You can still network by commenting in guestbooks or whatever. You can still approve comments once a week or so from your dashboard. But don't fuss over "updating" a lens to "make it fresh". It's not time well-spent.

You have better things to do with your marketing day!

Squidoo is great, but it's just a single piece of the puzzle. It's valuable but not priceless.

Yup - leave it set and go make another - change the wording around. I guess we could call it cloning lenses...

Hey Shield, that simple statement is very profound! You can even
substitute "Squidoo" with any other tool, tip, method or strategy,
and the second sentence would apply just as accurately.

Great advice in the post too. Right on!

Hi Hermas,

That's absolutely true, excellent point. It can be substituted for several other marketing categories. Many sink too much time and effort into a given aspect of marketing. They often do so at the expense of the other puzzle pieces and the collective.

These other pieces are valuable as well and should be given proper attention. There's a lot to know and to master. A lot of time and effort has to be put into every area.

I have just started to actually realize how true that is. It is kind of good for me because I am a person that jumps arounds a lot and I get bored it I spend too much time in one place.

At first I thought that was the wrong way to go because you have to spend a lot of time on things for them to be good. I failed to realize that the more time I spend on my business the better and faster I get which requires less time.

It was nice to know that my jumping around wasn't going to kill me. LOL
