Hi, my name's Alyssa and I'm a first-time user. I'm sure other people have heard of all those working-at-home making-a-million-an-hour infomercials and ads, but does anyone actually know any that are legitimate? Is it too much to hope that there's a way to run a business out of your home that works? If anyone has any insight into this topic, please share!

Absolutely - they are ALL legit... lol... just kidding.
Actually, no, you can not make money that quickly, but it IS possible to make money from home if you are motivated enough to stick with it till you got it sorta figured out...
There is a variety of ways that folks use to make money, though and a lot of us on this forum use things like affiliate marketing, blogging and adsense...
If that is all new to you, then I suggest doing some more research and searching thru this forum some more - asking questions.... happy surfing!

Hi Alyssa,
Welcome! Those infomercials are a riot. What's a real shame is that so many people believe them and lose both their time, their money, and their hopeful spirit.
Fortunately, everything online isn't a scam. There are genuine ways to build an online business from home, or offline for that matter.
Do you have any special interests? It's more fun if you work around something you already enjoy or have an interest in learning about.
You don't have to be a genius. You just have to use your own knowledge and experiences, a bit of research, and be able to follow instructions. Of course, you also need to be motivated and determined too.
As mountainmom5 said, it doesn't happen quickly. You have to be willing to put in several months of solid effort before your momentum builds up and starts to bring in some steady rewards.
It helps when you go into it knowing and believing that upfront. Too many people give up before they get that momentum built.

Hi alcederb,
Just keep your B.S. detector on when viewing infomercials. In fact, when considering investing time and money into a system, don't even watch infomercials. Seek out the opportunities yourself (same with cold-call sales, just hang up!).
I never get tired of repeating a certain favorite cliche - "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".
The truth of the matter is that it's not so much the system that works, it's the knowledge, hard work, experience, and commitment to making something work.
Best thing to do is to spend the time to learn everything you can about online marketing. Then learn the specifics about each element. Research your topic, plan it well, implement, monitor, and tweak.
It takes a good six months or more just to get a minor grasp of the fundamentals alone. You really have to be committed to do what ever it takes to become an expert in online marketing. Part of your success will be determined by how much you enjoy the learning process.
Passion and commitment rule the galaxy!
Everyone else is a pretender, a wannabe, and a dreamer.
It's quite doable but you have to put in a lot of hard work. What ever you put up on the net has to provide value to your visitors or you won't make enough to live on.
Realize what you are getting into and commit hard for the long haul. You'll figure out ways to make it work!

I have heard of many work from home opportunities that are ligit and have made money. You just need to do your homework and do some research. They are out there!

All good responses. One of the quickest way to make income is to find one which will enable you to make retail sales of products or services. If a company has a free signup that helps you. Some have a small fee for admin costs. By coming into this forum is a good step for resources. Wish you the best on what you decide.

Like several before me have said, yes, I think there are quite a few legit online business opportunities out there. If you find an ad you want to check into, type the name of the program and the word "review" into google search and see what comes up. I paid for one that had almost all good reviews (for affiliate marketing). And like they've said, it takes a bunch of time to learn the ropes. I've been completely confused more than once, but that's where the forums help greatly. Actually, it was the program I bought that pointed me to this forum. It definitely can be done, but it takes loads of learning and time. And I'm using what I've learned to promote my crafts online, and to post information I've learned over the years about health and nutrition. Actually, I'm having a ball even though I haven't earned a dime yet!

It takes some time to learn what works and what doesn't work.
It also takes a lot of hard work and determination to succeed with an online Business.
Avoid the get rich schemes and find a mentor that you can follow.

There are many ebooks that you buy but they are all junks and some keep copying others work just to make sure they sell them to you newbies. So the best way to go is either doing affiliate marketing of reseller programs. That way you are rest assured to making something useful out of the online money making thing.

Like everything...there's the good, the bad, and the ugly!
May of the scams you're referring to are the "ugly" - only intended to dupe the dumbest and most gullible.
But there are legitimate opportunities out there - it's just never as "easy" as it may sound to "be your own boss." Sure - being your own boss means that you won't be told what to do, when to do it and how to do it....but you also won't have a boss that pays you when you're late or lazy!
I've tried a lot of businesses and only recently when I found my perfect niche did I become successful! Just stay motivated and determined....success CAN follow!

Making money from home takes commitment, consistency, and effort. Dont fall for the hype. Align yourself with other leaders and top producers who can speed up the learning curve for you. You got to do the work though, this isnt the lottery, it takes time. Those that stick with it and learn EARN.

Its not that easy to have money on line. but, you have to be patience too and willing to sacrifice your time. You can ask everything in forums and to your friends too. be open to opinion.

Making money online is not as easy as they make it out to be. Hard work pays off in anything you do. [i][/i] It's all a matter of deciding how you want to spend your time so if you have the time to spend online then why not try to make money at it?

Find one thing and master that, then move on to something else once you have it running. I was going in 50 directions at once and was getting nowhere. I now have picked one topic and I have a few others on the back burner. I feel that if I get this one down, I will be better equipped to move onto the next. Its not easy, but you learn something everyday. When you learn it, implement it.
I have learned this, the possibilities are endless and can be very overwhelming. I spent 60 days or more just hoping from one thing to the next. Now that I have focused on one thing I have made a few dollars, nothing to live off of so to speak, but hey its gas money.
The people in this forum have helped me a lot. I check out their signature links and also its a good idea when you do find something to type it in the search engine here and you will get tons of reviews from the members here who have actually tried it.

Yes, you can make money from home and yes there are scams out there. And like some one else said 'if it is true good to be true it probably is'. Working from home is still work and a lot of time and effort has to be put into it. But if you are doing something you enjoy the time will fly by and you'll enjoy it.

i want this kind of opportunity, however i'm still on the drifting stage collecting ideas and gathering information from people around who knows the DOs and DONTs, regarding Working at Home Opportunities... Thanks for the additional INFOs here...

It's not bad that you're in the "drifting stage"...and collecting ideas!
It will take some time to find what you're passionate about, what you have the talent for, etc.
There's no use in forcing something too early just to fail b/c you didn't put in enough time researching it in the beginning.
