Hello, I am a single mother to two children, a college student, and I also work PT. I have been searching for a legitimate home business for about 5 years now and keep getting burned and scammed. Im willing to invest some money (I do not have a whole lot though) and time (another thing I have little of) in something that will pay off and be worth my time and money. I am so very frustrated and fear I never will find a legitimate scam free work at home business. If anyone has any advice or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I am hoping to supplement my income and eventually make enough where I will not have to work outside the home any more. at my current job I make about 900 a month, but would like to make more than that monthly of course. I also need a business that can offer returns rather quickly. This summer, i will not be getting much from financial aid at my school and will need to have extra money coming in by mid-June. Im tired of stealing time away from my children and tired of living pay check to paycheck, Thank You
WENDY

Legitimate home business will requires about 2 - 6 months to see results if you work hard for it.
It is quite difficult to find something that can earn money fast.

Hi Wendy,
Cherie is correct. If anything you come across says 'quick and easy' to make money it most likely has scam written all over it.
Well, it may not exactly be a 'scam' because it may provide you with some genuine steps to building an online business, but it will definitely be a lie - at the very least regarding the ease and speed at which you will succeed.
Building an online business doesn't need to take a lot of money. I started my first web business for $299 for the first year. That's not much at all.
But it usually takes a good bit of time in getting it built up to a place where it is bringing in steady income. That first site I built brings me in over $1000 per month these days with very little upkeep. But I put a LOT of effort in the beginning with no income coming in at all. That's usually the way it goes.
If you must have money ASAP, you might be better off trying to find some offline work or doing some freelance work. You may be able to write some articles for people at Odesk.com or getafreelancer.com or elance.com, etc. You bid on jobs and are paid an agreed upon amount for the work that you do.
Offline you may be able to make and sell some baked goods, candy, party favors, etc., to local businesses, schools, etc. Try to think outside the box and you may come up with a unique little niche to fill in your area.
If you decide that you DO want to try to build an online business (taking it slow and steady), I can't recommend anything higher than SiteBuildIt (SBI). They've made the whole process of learning to build an online business a real joy for me.
Hope you find something that suits you and meets your needs.
Blessings, Angie

yes work at home is not going to make you earn good income in a small time. it require hard work and passion. but the best thing to do is search for a guide or find a mentor and that would be easy

Know what Angie...?? I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but the first time around when I built the 'work at home' SBI site.... I used hardly any adsense on my site.
I know... DUH!
I still can't believe I did that, as I left so much money on the table, but I think I was afraid of losing visitors to other sites and the main reason I had that site was to try to generate leads with.... so even though the work at home arena is almost too tough to tackle with a site, I think I coulda at least made it pay for itself with adsense... sigh, oh well, hindsight again.
I am having so much fun with my new one though that I can hardly stick with one page before I want to go start another topic. lol

Wendy,
Growing a successful home business does require time. I'm afraid if you come into it expecting to make a substantial amount of money by your June timeline you will be setting yourself up for failure. A more realistic timeframe is about 6 months and that is only possible if you really work hard and have some good fortune. But make no mistake about it, if you put in the time and effort you will ultimately succeed.

Hey Wendy,
This does sound like a tough one indeed!
I'd have to echo what the guys above say.
You could make money in 2 months but you're talking about a very high level of commitment - and you've got too much on for this to be an option.
If you want to make money online without getting scammed then look at it as a longer term thing. I think I said before, but you have to be realistic.
Don't listen to people pushing their products - especially on sales pages. They'll say anything to clinch a deal. As happywife said, if it says quick and easy, then don't touch it.
In summary:
a) you can find a legitimate, scam-free work at home business
b) you can supplement your income doing this
c) you can eventually make enough where you won't have to work outside the home again
d) to supplement your income it will probably take 3 months to a year taking into account your other commitments but also assuming you allocate a small bit of time on an almost daily basis to building up your business
It can be fun too!
Whatever you end up doing, with a calm and assured mindset, I'm sure you'll make the right decisions in doing what's right for you and your children.

Hi,
As most previous posts tell you, it won't be easy to make money in a short period of time. However, if you are willing to try making money online, avoid website where they tell you people have earned thousands without really telling how, and having you clicking links endlessly.
You could try affiliate marketing which seem to be a good way to start. What I like about them is that you don't need to have a product. Basically what you do, is talking, writing reviews, and publish posts about a product. There are A LOT of affiliate businesses and all you have to do is to choose one that sell products related to what you're interested in.
If you like sports, choose a company related to sports and write about their product. There's a lot more option, and it's even better if you have a passion and you can talk about it.
Money won't grow from one day to another, but it's a good way to start planting seeds while you're looking for something else.
Contact me if you wish to have more details about it.
All the best,
Iaara

Yes, you probably would have been able to earn some Adsense income, to pay for the site, but your thinking wasn't "wrong" in some respects.
On pages where you REALLY prefer to keep your visitors to yourself, don't put the Adsense ads. That's a good principle to keep in mind.
I can't wait to see your new site. I can feel your excitement! Blessings, Angie

There is a lot of talk of affiliate marketing which is selling someone else's product and getting a cut off it. Yes it does take months of hard work to see results.
Another thing you can do is get involved with Ebay. I hear of so many people making some money off of Ebay selling things. You can go to garage sales (early) and you can get some of the best deals and then go to Ebay and sell it for more.
For example, at garage sales baby shoes usually go for .25 to 2.00 depending on the area. You can get online and sell the exact same shoes for 5.00 to 8.00 dollars.
If you live near a richie nieghborhood, go to those garage sales. You can find some really great deals on some expensive things and at least double your money on Ebay.
Hope that helps and gives you some ideas

Wendy great questions and guys great replies back. I agree with alot of what's said but have a different take on a few things. First off you can make money right away in some businesses. But that is not the norm. Let me try my best to give you my opinion on how to succeed in home based business.
First you need a good product. There are plenty on the market. Find something you are interested in and then think of all the products that are associated with that interest. For me and my wife it was travel.
Second look at the pay plan. We are all in business to make money so this is key and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Now I will admit to joining some businesses that I knew wouldn't make me alot of money. I do this for other reasons like generating leads which I will talk about next.
Customers are needed for any business. How can you get them to market your business? I have learned to generate leads by offering free tools to build my own list. I also have the added advantage of giving away vacations to promote my business. If your product is going to sell you must find buying customers. This is a selling business no matter what anyone tells you. You must sell to make money.
Now Wendy Im not sure exactly if what I do in business fits for you but I bet that anyone of us on here would be willing to spend some time with you and go over some details and see if they can help you.

Hello lilmama0500, A home based business takes time to build not that long when you have someone teaching you what to do step by step. Also there are some companies that doesn't required any fee to join and those are the good ones to get started because you don't have to pay a joining fee.
What I recommend is to first start by learning how to get traffic to a website, how to convert the traffic in leads and how to convert the leads in to prospects. Once you master that you can make money basically with any home based business or MLM. The key to success is generating traffic and leads. Without that home based business don't go anywhere that's one of the reason 97% of them fail.
While you learn how to generate free traffic and leads for your future business go visit liveops they provide work from home job. That may help you while you start building your online business.
I hope this helps come back an let us know the results...
Franklin
