Hey Michael,
Both are important.
Putting keywords in the domain name of your blog will help your SE listing for your primary keyword or keyphrase. You've only got one shot with a domain name so you ought to make it count. Putting keywords in the title of a blog article increases the opportunities for additional exposure.
Example:
Let's say your blog's domain name is DarkRumCocktails.com. Right away it identifies your specific target niche, and a search for "dark rum cocktails" should bring up your blog. Now, if you write a series of blog articles with titles such as...
- Exotic Dark Rum Recipies for Your Next Party - The Differences Between White Rum and Dark Rum - Rum Cocktails for Your Next Caribbean Vacation
... you substantially increase the possibility to have four listings appear on the same page of the search results. That translates to a 40% chance (4 out of 10) that a searcher will click on a link that leads to you.
The domain name and the article titles should work in tandem and compliment each other... all to your benefit.
Hermas.

To add to Hermas' excellent tips, one thing to remember is that search engines read left to right. Try to keep your keywords to the left so the search engines will read that first.
It is a lot to take in all at once but it will sink in as long as you keep at it.

Great point, gridellas, on what you said about the search engines reading left to right. So, if someone is writing a title that contains both keywords they are targeting plus additional information, the keywords they are targeting should go on the left, and the additional information should go to the right, and not the other way around, although it helps to be as specific as possible in the title.

Hotwheelz: with all this information I have been taking in tlately my brain is turning to mush! Never fear - we have all been in the mushy brain stage and I tend to revert back to that coma like state whenever I study and research too much - that is what fresh air is for - lol - to clear out the mush and let it all solidify...
You got some great advice here, btw...

Hey Hotwheelz,
I am new to this also and it can seem like so much to remember. What i try to do is
1 do what i am told in these forums ( they have already been where we are)
2 Find the key work you would like to wright about then just wright get the words on paper then you can change it around. Let's face it getting start is the hard part.
3 When you have all that you would like to say go over it and make the changes that will hit the key word.
Sorry for the long reply but I was at the same point you are at last week and that was the advice i was give and it helped me so much.
Hope this helps, Good luck!!

your main page name (blog name) is the keyword you want to rank for most, and it is not long keyword, and must be one which have some competition. While sub pages and articles must be designed to rank for secondary keywords that are less competitive this is the optimum use

Hi,
Article name is more important for attractiong people.
- Your article name with keywords will lead to get traffic to your site.
Blog name would be same as website address
- People will look up your blog name when they are interested in your articles for future references.
Happy day~^^

Hi Hotwheelz,
You have the right idea - include your main phrase in your domain name. Do the same for each article title.
