Hello everyone,
It's been great reading all your posts on here - there's certainly a lot of experience out there.
I'm no pro at this but I have taken the leap of faith a couple of times. What worries me is the number of potential pitfalls out there.
I was lucky when I made my choices but I did my research and was careful in making my decision.
As a beginner to making money online, things I looked out for were as follows:
1. Articles that reviewed the program of interest - if they're strongly criticising the product, do they then go on to strongly recommend another one - this could be a sly way of them making money
2. Articles that tell you how great it will be to be rich etc. but don't really tell you how this will happen. Maybe they are genuine, but it's risky - again, if you research these and some people are claiming it's really good without backing it up with solid evidence, then maybe they have a vested interest.
3. Overambitious claims. You have to be realistic if you're starting out. If it's genuine, it's not going to give you cash for nothing. And it's not going to provide enough for you to quit your job in a week (though some may allow you to do that in a month or two!)
4. I find it funny when they say - you can make up to $5,761.73! Why tell us about the 73 cents? Are they trying so hard to convince us that it's genuine because it's such an irregular number? That said, some of the genuine websites do this - they probably picked it up in some marketing journal...
5. My last tip for now is being wary of schemes where you have to pay a monthly 'membership' fee. I was lucky I didn't sign up for one because it's not always clear. It's not that they're necessarily bad, but starting out, the last thing I wanted to do was shell out $97/70 a month and have no guarantee (apart from their word) of what I was getting for it.
If you're starting out, there's no harm in starting small and seeing if it works. That way you've got control, and there's no reason why you can't make a bit of cash within a couple of weeks. Once you see it working, you can then start to speculate a little more.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. How about yours?
Do any of you have more advice on telling whether some of these internet money making opportunities are genuine?
And what makes you hesitant about signing up to schemes etc?
Look forward to hearing your thoughts, guys.

Hi InnerPeace,
Generally speaking, learn to listen to your gut. If it sounds too good to be true or even a little fishy, don't pursue it.

Yeah all that and this too ! Watch out for those really long pitch pages. If it takes that much to convince you that it is a real opportunity, then it is not.

Research, research, research. Google any potential program and find out everthing you can about it. Use forums like this also as an info source.

Hello IP, There are some forums dedicated to report online scams.. I will try to find a link for you..or just Google them..
Avoid get rich quick schemes.... And, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
These are the legitimate programs I know of: The Thirty Day Challenge The Thirty Day Challenge Plus The Immediate Edge Wealthy Affiliate University
I am not a member, or have experience with any others. There are some wonderful members of various programs in this forum who can help too! Cheers, Victoria
P.S. Never pay someone hundreds of dollars for training or a program... I had a bad experience with Google Cash Detective, 1 1/2 years ago but fought for my money back. There are some high end legitimate programs for the seasoned marketers later on...

Thanks very much for those thoughts, guys.
And thanks for sharing those names of legitimate programs with us, Victoria.
I think the key thing for beginners to realise is that if they want to make a lot of money online, the whole process is a medium to long term affair which requires patience and perseverance.
A little bit of originality will get you very far too... but first it's about getting those basic level skills.

well innerpeace, you sure summed things up well in your post. In fact, no.1 in your article catches a LOT of people out. Anyway, the key is to use logic. Ask yourself, can I actually make this amount in this amount of days only putting in the amount of effort? If you ask yourself these types of questions you should be able to spot the golden ticket hidden in the candy bars!
