I'm getting a little fed up with the idea of making money online by talking about making money online. In a sense, it's just perpetuating a somewhat meaningless activity...

Don't get me wrong, I think it's excellent to provide useful information about marketing that has helped you in the past to your fellow affiliates, but building an entire business around making money seems like a funny thing to do. There's no real product, there's nothing of real substance except the promise that you, too can do the same thing.

This is why it's so hard for newbies to keep focus: This is not something very many people can do! If 'everyone' joined in on marketing ways to market, and selling ways to sell, nothing would actually get done. We would just be teaching each other how to teach people to teach. Hah.

Maybe I'm missing something? Obviously it's a beautiful thing to have so much valuable information literally at our fingertips, and fellow internet users are most likely the best way to learn how to market products. And sure it's tempting to make a little money while you pass on information...

Around 97 percent of people fail to make money online. If you're selling to fellow money-makers, you're selling to about 3 percent of those people right?? And ignoring a vast amount of consumers.

I sure don't mind helping others and passing on tidbits for small commissions as a side-project, but my main business goals were never to sell my main business goals haha.

Anyone disagree or have interesting remarks?

I do agree with you and never really understood people who become internet marketers without having worked in the trenches for a few years learning how it all works. How can they have anything of value to pass on to anyone if they've never actually done it themselves?

Hi Lars,

That's why I always encourage "new" people NOT to choose the "make money online" niche. It's too easy to set them up for failure that way.

There are so many other things that people already know a good deal about that they can build an online business around. When you are knowledgeable and experienced on a subject, it is so much easier to make a successful transfer to making money in that area. This is even true of somewhat frivolous information (like my chocolate candy site).

You don't have to be a rocket scientist or marketing genius. You just need to learn how to turn what you already know and love into a money making business. Some people get the idea that they don't know anything worthwhile to market. That isn't true. They just don't realize the value of their knowledge and how to convert it into a viable business.

I was thrilled to learn this, particularly since I am not a salesperson at heart and I couldn't stand the thought of perpetuating that cycle that you so eloquently described.

Blessings,
Angie

Talk about blind leading the blind - I feel the same as you all and don't think I'm over it yet but hey! if affliate sites are getting you some bucks - go for it!

It's a long crazy ordeal no matter how you look at it. No matter what you do or sell that's how I see it. You either pursue or quit.

It is never easy to be a sales person in reality.

How many sales person can sell their company products without any set back?

Just alone the internet.

Not all the people have the skills set.
It is easy to pick up the skill set, but how many people are applying the skills and pursue all the way.

Hi Lars,

It perpetuates a meaningless activity only if no one acts on the idea and brings it to life!

The person talking about making money online - the coach or affiliate marketer - is probably making money from the fees and commissions earned from "selling" the idea. That's their action. The student who is getting the information then has to apply that information before she can see any results.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people who dream of making money online never wake up from their dream to confront reality. So they never DO anything with the information, or they target the wrong crowd. That is what contributes to the confusion, redundancy and high failure rate.

Awesome feedback guys! Glad to see I'm not going crazy lol

Funny you would mention 'the blind leading the blind' haha I just watched the movie 'Blindness' last night - lots of frustratingly hopeless blind leadership lol.

I personally don't understand anyone who claims to make hundreds of dollars a day from home or even ten dollars a month - and hasn't actually made anything - it just fills newbies with a false sense of optimism..

However, it's really entertaining to read a blog or lens or something that was obviously written at about a 4th grade level with a grammar mistake at every other word, making ridiculous claims like 'Earn thousands of dollars a month with my automatic super exciting push button cash flow system!'

HAH.

It really is muchhhh harder to earn money than you think on your first day! But it's a great feeling to have a bit of persistence and start watching your account add up little by little Makes me chuckle to know that I have one up on a HUGE amount of people.

FUNNY side-note :
I actually make twice as much money per hour playing acoustic guitar and singing in front of my neighborhood gas station collecting tips than I do from my labor job hahah
Quarters and dollars add up fast!
So I tried out a similar concept and started selling cheap things online and it really does pay off! It's not hard to convince anyone to drop a few bucks here and there, so sales come very frequently.

So true and many folks may think all we do, as far as with affiliate marketing, is promote our links we have in our sig lines here... but I am thinking what they don't realize is that we have waaaay too many links to have them all in our signatures so we just pick the ones that are beneficial to folks that are researching stuff... and that may be giving off a wrong impression....

Gosh - it is way to hard a niche to even compete in, and although I used to try to write articles etc, to draw traffic to my work at home sites I don't do it much anymore...

For newbies on here - if you are just getting started in affiliate marketing, trust us when we say that you want to find a niche other than work at home stuff to promote!

If I am chatting in a wellness forum, for instance, I would have my sig links directing to my health sites...

I just have way too much fun here so this is where I hang out the most... when I am not working on my campaigns...
